time-lapse Horizons | Dakotalapse

Postby Allegro » Sun Jun 23, 2013 12:19 pm

C’est la vie…

^ Horizons | Dakotalapse; VIMEO NOTES.

    Hear the LYRICS

It’s time to celebrate rainy day parades
    All the music plays
    And I hear you

    Sometimes it makes no sense
    Your grief your happiness
    All the world’s a stage
    And I feel you

    I forever say goodnight
    I forever lost in time
    I forever light the light
    And on and on...

    A change is coming up
    You’re running out of luck
    Go and then you’re lost
    I find you

    There’s plenty going round
    The path less traveled down
    All the signs are gone
    I guide you

    I forever say goodnight
    I forever lost in time
    I forever light the light
    And on and on...

When tragedy unfurls it spins around the world
    Washed upon the shore
    And I soothe you

When all your hearts are broke
    When everything you know
    Dashed upon the rocks
    I love you

    I forever say goodnight
    I forever lost in time
    I forever light the light
    And on and on...

    I forever say goodnight
    I forever lost in time
    I forever light the light
    And on and on...

If you wish, read the sameness of today’s pop music to glimpse an expectation when preparing to listen to music from Mr. McCreary’s group, who’s ensconced in the music industry, and whose music was installed by Halverson for his video of magnificent astronomical images in time-lapse, above. One Ytube commentor is noted as almost saying: lose the lyrics; for which I’d ask, who’s speaking to whom in the lyrics? Is the piece a love song? Is the nature of evolution speaking to me?

The vocal harmonies were, I thought, very well balanced. But, with regard to the predominant, synthesized instrumentation, relentless bass line, and a passage of loud, crooning and screeching sound of electronic guitar, in my most humble opinion, are a consequent overreach producing a mismatch of music to visual. Less is more. C’est la vie.

Note Simon Wilkonson has composed the soundtrack for Mr. Halverson’s full-length time-lapse, for which the above vid is a preview.

The music in the latter post was a better fit, Allegro. Agree with what you say, of course. I transitioned out of alt.rock to jazz in my 50's. It was an act of will and it forced a change of tastes in me.. can't go back. I wonder if I will ever make the leap to classical though - I have selected Sibelius waiting in the wings to take over where the ECM type jazz left off LOL -

And there's nothing like cranking up the speakers on a nice day, red wine in hand and listening to our very good local student radio station.
As long as it's varied and doesn't repeat too often, I can dig it......

Time-lapse | Dark Nights II | Graham Gaunt

Postby Allegro » Mon Jun 24, 2013 1:48 pm

Here’s a video produced by Mr. Gaunt with music composed by MacLeod. The music sounds a bit new-age, but then its composition and ease of listening are subtle enough for its use in this particular video, in my opinion.

The William Blake poem, introduced by an excerpt at the beginning of the vid, accounts ideas of innocence contrasted by corruption. Gaunt weaves light and dark images accompanied by darkened sounds of music; about mark 3.20, he interrupts that music with a pause, then, at mark 3.25 or so, he begins lightened sounds of music that accompany images that might reveal to the viewer as moments at dawn. The distinction is well made, presuming Gaunt’s life’s experiences, perhaps his personal philosophy woven with music, images, and Blake’s poem. All make for an interesting arrangement for viewing and listening.

VIMEO NOTES. I was lucky enough to spend a week on the beautiful Island of St Agnes, isle of Scilly during an unusual stretch of very good clear weather. I spent every night awake dragging my gear out at dusk and returning to sleep at dawn. No matter how much I thought I had planned out each shot the unraveling of the nights events always brought new and different surprises.

Follows is an excerpt from poetry by William Blake, which the viewer sees in the video’s introduction.

Some are born to sweet delight.
Some are born to endless night.

We are led to believe a lie
When we see not thro’ the eye.
Which was born in a night to perish in a night.
When the soul slept in beams of light.

William Blake | Auguries of Innocence

Hi there, KUAN. I listened awhile to the student station, and noticed that it might’ve been located in New Zealand. Thank You. And, thanks too for the Jerrett concert.

You’ve got Sibelius waiting  in the wings while I’ve got jazz waiting in the wings. I’ve loved listening to jazz in various venues, and haven’t for the life of me learned to play it.
