Leonardo DiCaprio will star in and produce the feature "Legacy of Secrecy," based on the book about the John F. Kennedy assassination by Lamar Waldron and Thom Hartmann.

DiCaprio will produce through his Warner Bros.-based Appian Way banner with his father, George, who brought the book to his son's attention. Appian Way's Earl Katz will exec produce.

Warners, which handled Oliver Stone's "JFK" in 1991, is eyeing a possible 2013 release of "Legacy of Secrecy" coinciding with the 50th anni of President Kennedy's assassination.

DiCaprio is expected to play FBI informant Jack Van Laningham. The book -- whose full title is "Legacy of Secrecy: The Long Shadow of the JFK Assassination" -- asserts that Mafia godfather Carlos Marcello confessed to Van Laningham to having ordered JFK's assassination. As part of a dangerous and long-secret undercover operation, the FBI positioned Van Laningham to become confidant to Marcello, who ruled organized crime in Louisiana and most of Texas for decades.

"Legacy of Secrecy" includes information from declassified FBI files from the National Archives which details the FBI's clandestine operation with Van Laningham and Marcello's JFK confession. The book also included information from FBI and Secret Service files showing that more than a dozen of Marcello's associates and family members were questioned or arrested by authorities in assocation with the JFK assassination.Marcello, who died in 1993, has not yet been the subject of a feature film. Marcello's name did not appear in the 1964 Warren Report, but the 1979 House Select Committee on Assassinations said mobster Santo Trafficante and Marcello "had the motive, means, and opportunity to assassinate President Kennedy."

As part of Warner's deal for "Legacy of Secrecy," Waldron is retaining documentary film and TV rights to the book, which also says the Mafia played a role in the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. and in Watergate. Appian Way's Katz will produce one of the documentaries.

DiCaprio was last seen in "Inception." Appian Way's a producer on "Red Riding Hood," due out in March from Warners, and on the George Clooney-Ryan Gosling starrer "The Ides of March," currently in pre-production.

Hartmann has some kind of in with Dicaprio apparently. He liked his book The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight. This progressive host gig, probably isn't paying much, on to Hollywood screenwriter...

DiCaprio Buys Waldron—In More Ways Than One

Postby MinM » Mon Nov 22, 2010 7:11 pm

Image
Just when one thought Hollywood could not get any worse on the JFK case, on November 19th a rather depressing announcement was made. Leonardo DiCaprio has purchased the rights to the lengthy book by Thom Hartmann and Lamar Waldron, Legacy of Secrecy. DiCaprio purchased the rights through his production entity, Appian Way, which has a production deal with Warner Brothers. In the story announcing this discouraging news, it was revealed that DiCaprio’s father George brought the book to his son’s attention. One wonders how much reading George has done in the field.

The story also announced that Warners is trying for a 2013 release of the film, which is also rumored to be the release date of the Tom Hanks/Gary Goetzman mini-series made from Vincent Bugliosi’s even longer tome, Reclaiming History. Pity the country that has to be whipsawed between two works of fiction like this at the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy’s death.

As most readers of the CTKA site know, and most serious people on this case realize, Hartmann and Waldron spent nearly two thousand pages discussing declassified documents that they either misread or misrepresented. Their two books are based upon contingency plans, which President Kennedy never took seriously, about an invasion of Cuba. And these plans are clearly marked as such. Further, in their first book, Ultimate Sacrifice, their alleged coup plotter, the man who would lead the revolt against Fidel Castro, was clearly implied as being Che Guevara. Which was ridiculous on its face. Eventually, they switched to Juan Almeida. But they were humiliated once again when Malcolm Blunt and Ed Sherry discovered NSA intercepts revealing that Almeida was on his way to Africa at the time of the coup! This literally took the heart out of their fantastic C-Day plot. As did the fact that it was later revealed that no one in any high position in the military or intelligence community knew of the coming invasion—which was to be by flotillas of Cuban exiles supplemented by both the CIA and the Pentagon. National Security Adviser McGeorge Bundy did not know. Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara did not know. And CIA Director of Plans Richard Helms did not know.

So here you had a US sponsored coup in Cuba which no one in the American military–intelligence community knew of, and apparently neither did the designated coup leader, who was flying across the Atlantic on his way to a different continent at the time.

Even though their first book on this subject, Ultimate Sacrifice, was roundly criticized from many quarters—David Talbot, Bill Kelly, and myself to name just three—the authors managed to get published a sort of sequel. This book, Legacy of Secrecy, again discussed this mythological coup in Cuba and the JFK assassination, but also extended the authors’ discussion of assassinations to RFK and Martin Luther King. In each case, Waldron and Hartmann proffered a Mob based scenario. In the JFK case, although the authors were not in the “Oswald did it alone” camp, they concluded the Mafia killed President Kennedy, but this time Bernard Barker was the assassin at the request of Carlos Marcello. As Bill Davy noted, there was next to no evidence for Barker being on the grassy knoll. In the latter two cases, they strongly implied that the official scapegoats—James Earl Ray and Sirhan Sirhan—were triggermen for the Mafia.

The evidence Waldron and Hartmann offered up for Marcello being the mastermind behind the assassination was mildewed stuff they tried to present as new. In fact, legendary archives researcher Peter Vea sent this author copies of the documents (codenamed CAMTEX) a full decade before Waldron and Hartmann “discovered” them and trumpeted them as new. Contained in those pages is what was termed in Legacy of Secrecy a “confession” to the JFK assassination by Marcello while the Mafioso was in prison in Texas. Let me quote from my review of the book:

“When Peter sent me the documents, he titled his background work on them as "The Crazy Last Days of Carlos Marcello." Peter had done some work on Marcello's health while being incarcerated. Between that, and the reports that came out at the time of his 1993 death, Peter and I concluded that at the time of the CAMTEX documents Marcello was suffering from the onset of Alzheimer's disease. Today, the accepted gestation period for the disease is about seven years. There is little doubt that by 1988-89 Marcello's Alzheimer's was in full and raging bloom. It was also at this time Marcello's general health was beginning to collapse through a series of strokes. Marcello's talks with the jailhouse informant who is one of the sources for the CAMTEX documents begins in 1985. Doing the arithmetic you will see that Marcello's Alzheimer's was very likely well along by then. Additionally, when told about the jailhouse informant's accusation that he had Kennedy killed, Marcello himself replied that this was ‘crazy talk.’ And in fact it is.

“The CAMTEX documents actually have Marcello meeting with Oswald in person and in public at Marcello’s brother's restaurant. But that's nothing. According to CAMTEX, Marcello set up Ruby's bar business and Ruby would come to Marcello's estate to report to him! And so after being seen in public with both the main participants, the chief mobster has the first one kill Kennedy and the second kill Oswald. Yet, the authors are so intent on getting the CAMTEX documents out there that they don't note that these contradict their own conclusion written elsewhere in the same book. Namely that Oswald didn't shoot Kennedy.”

So, in other words, it appears that DiCaprio did about as much background study of these two books and these two writers as Hanks and Goetzman did on Reclaiming History. And what amplifies that is that it appears that DiCaprio will play Jack Van Laningham, the prison inmate who allegedly talked to Marcello. I wonder if DiCaprio will acknowledge he was listening to a man who was in the advanced stages of a mentally debilitating disease, the same one that forced Nancy Reagan to hide her husband from the rest of the world for fear of embarrassment.

There is a lot of blame to go around is this sorry affair, which once again reveals just how shallow, vapid, and egocentric the Hollywood movie scene has become. And Discovery Channel is high on the list. For they featured Waldron and Van Laningham on its sorry show, Did the Mob Kill JFK? And the History Channel did a documentary on the previous book Ultimate Sacrifice. So whereas, Hartmann and Waldron have been severely discredited within the research community, the cable television crowd has sold them to the general public as credible historians, which they are anything but.

And now, Leonardo DiCaprio and his father have signed on to the imaginary coup, and the incapacitated “confession.”

We urge everyone to write or fax DiCaprio at his Appian Way office:

Everyone get on this one, right away. After fifty years, the American people deserve better than a phony Mob did it scenario about JFK’s death. Especially with the release of 2 million pages of declassified documents that reveal what actually happened to him.

DiCaprio is a dupe, a tool.

I only wish Jim DiEugenio understood that Hollywood is 100% CIA spew, a constant stream of state-of-the-black-art psyops from professional deceivers and mind-benders.

He does really well with text but obviously hasn't put the time into scripts on screen to see it's all the same disinformation.

BTW, minm, 'The Eleventh Hour' was a limited hang-out film with lots of CIA on screen and behind it. They tried to hide Senate Bill 517, for instance. Anything with James Woolsey narrating is not something related to telling the truth.
CIA runs mainstream media since WWII:

I do, with the qualification that Scientology is also a major factor. Ultimately they are tolerated by the main brainwash cult controllers because they serve a convenient function. Sort of like outsourced psyops. But practically speaking the basest, most primitively sexual-territorial animal instincts are what the PTB worship, and also what Hollywood puts out.

One of the most glaringly obvious example of CIA/Hollywood collusion was the coordinated release of American Gangster followed by Charlie Wilson's War, which was meant to put the blame for the global military-run heroin trade on black people.

Somebody should tell Dicaprio to read RI.

To paraphrase Gerald Ford .. this post was moved for clarity.
Fifty minutes, also touches on it 23:23 into this podcast, DiEugenio describes a recent meeting that he and Schrade had with George DiCaprio, Earl Katz, and Lamar Waldron. In an apparently futile attempt to dissuade the DiCaprios from pushing the Hartmann - Waldron disinfo books.

DiCaprio, DeNiro, Russell: Taking on JFK Assassination
Image
EXCLUSIVE: The so called conspiracy to kill President John F. Kennedy is coming to the big screen–and not from director Oliver Stone. About three years ago, Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way production company announced intentions to make a film called “Legacy of Secrecy,” which threatened to blow the lid off of what really happened in Dallas in November 1963.

Now DiCaprio’s father, George, who put the project together, says the film is coming to fruition. George DiCaprio told me yesterday that “Legacy” follows the saga of FBI informant Jack Laningham. DeNiro would play Mafia kingpin Carlos Marcello, who confided to Langingham that he ordered the hit on Kennedy. Marcello died in 1993. But back during the days following the assassination, at least a dozen of Marcello’s associates were questioned by the FBI. Neverheless, Marcello’s name never appeared in the Warren Report.

van Laningham is alive. His story with Marcello was turned into a book called “Legacy of Secrecy” by Lamar Waldron and Thom Hartmann published in 2009. Leonardo DiCaprio already knew Hartmann: it was his work that inspired Leo’s heartfelt if extremely boring talking head documentary about the enviroment called “The 11th Hour.”

George DiCaprio told me he’s been working with van Laningham and “knows everything.” “He’s never spoken to anyone,” George said at a yacht party launch early Thursday evening in Cannes for director Martin Scorsese’s next film.

Craig van Laningham, Jack’s son, confirmed all of this for me late tonight. He says he and his dad have met DeNiro, and that David O. Russell is writing the script as well as directing. “George DiCaprio, my dad and I even went to the first screening of The Great Gatsby,” he said, in Santa Monica. “It was sold out.” ...

Rob Lowe, Ginnifer Goodwin to Star in Nat Geo's 'Killing Kennedy' (Exclusive)
Image
The TV movie marks the latest adaptation from Bill O'Reilly's collection of best-sellers, with Michelle Trachtenberg also joining the cast.

The duo has signed on to star in National Geographic's upcoming telepic, Killing Kennedy, with Lowe set to play the iconic role of President John F. Kennedy and Goodwin joining him as first lady and American royalty, Jacqueline Kennedy. Rounding out the cast is Michelle Trachtenberg, in her first Russian-speaking role as Marina Oswald.

"We are thrilled to be working with Rob Lowe, Ginnifer Goodwin and Michelle Trachtenberg, three gifted artists whom have responded to this timely, authentic and entertaining material,” said Howard T. Owens, president of the National Geographic Channels, in a statement announcing the news Tuesday. “With Killing Kennedy, timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the assassination of JFK, National Geographic Channel continues to bring daring, culturally significant television events to our growing global audience.”

The drama marks the latest adaptation from Bill O'Reilly's collection of best-sellers, and comes three months after Killing Lincoln premiered to 3.4 million viewers. The factual drama will debut this year, timed to the 50th anniversary of the assassination. Production will begin in June in Richmond, Va., when Lowe and Goodwin are on hiatus from NBC's Parks and Recreation and ABC's Once Upon a Time, respectively.

Like Killing Lincoln, Kennedy will be produced by Ridley Scott's Scott Free Productions. Nelson McCormick (The Good Wife, Southland) has been tapped to direct, with playwright and screenwriter Kelly Masterson penning the teleplay. The effort, which will tell the provocative story of Kennedy's last days, will run two hours, and is expected to premiere in 171 countries that carry NatGeo...

Robe Lowe, 'Secret' Conservative, to Play the Bill O'Reilly Version of JFK
Image
...Now, embarking on an O'Reilly project isn't necessarily a mark of political conservatism. Noted liberal Tom Hanks narrated Killing Lincoln on NatGeo in February, for instance. Lowe, of course, starred in The West Wing, a show from outspoken liberal (and Maureen Dowd ex-boyfriend) Aaron Sorkin. But Lowe hasn't always been so clear about his viewpoint: Even if he's interested in selling himself as a political junkie of sorts, he may or may not have been leaning outwardly right of late. After being considered a "longtime Democratic activist"—his sex scandal was associated with the Democratic National Convention in 1988—Lowe joined Arnold Schwarzenegger's campaign in 2003. More recently, he's made some comments on his Twitter account that might imply he may not be all that liberal. A tweet about Benghazi in September, for instance, got Twitchy all excited. This month Lowe visited the White House to meet with Gene Sperling and made the press corps go totally fanboy/girl.

But regardless of all that, isn't it kind of bizarre to think of Rob Lowe playing John F. Kennedy? He's about the right age, but he's just so, well, Rob Lowe. On the other hand, he did make a pretty stunning transformation in Behind the Candelabra. That face will haunt your dreams. And sure beats Greg Kinnear, back from the last time a JFK half-biopic produced by conservatives made its way to cable...

See Michelle Trachtenberg as Mrs. Lee Harvey Oswald in 'Killing Kennedy' [Exclusive Photo]
The "Gossip Girl" star is nearly unrecognizable as Marina Oswald, while actor Will Rothhaar looks eerily similar to the man who allegedly assassinated JFK.

By Kimberly Potts | Yahoo! TV – 22 hours ago
Image
You know her from "Gossip Girl," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and "Harriet the Spy," but chances are that you still won't recognize Michelle Trachtenberg in the photo above, as she portrays Marina Oswald in National Geographic Channel's upcoming movie "Killing Kennedy."

Trachtenberg is shown holding the young actress who plays one of Marina's two daughters, June and Audrey, her children with Lee Harvey Oswald (Will Rothhaar), the man who was assassinated himself before he could be tried for the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
Image
Russian-born Marina Oswald, who remarried and gave birth to two sons after her first husband's death, remained in the United States after the Kennedy assassination and became a U.S. citizen in 1989. She has since said she believes Lee Harvey Oswald did not kill John F. Kennedy.

Marina Oswald has previously been portrayed by Beata Pozniak in Oliver Stone's film "JFK" and by Helena Bonham Carter in the 1993 NBC TV movie "Fatal Deception: Mrs. Lee Harvey Oswald."

Lee Harvey Oswald has previously been played onscreen by Gary Oldman in "JFK," Frank Whaley ("Born on the Fourth of July") in "Fatal Deception," and "Sex and the City" and "White Collar" star Willie Garson on episodes of "Quantum Leap" and "MADtv."
