Watch Us Live!
Live Streaming of the Play: Last Call at the Conspiracy Lounge:
An Original Stage Play by Dwight Patillo
Detroit/Windsor International Film Festival Winner
(“CornerStore”, “Mahogany Dreams”)

“A Twilight Zone episode on Steroids!”

Imagine what would happen if you put some of the world’s most iconic figures together at a bar for a meet and greet: Julius Caesar, Abe Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi, Marilyn Monroe, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, John Kennedy, Lee Oswald, Robert Kennedy, Jimmy Hoffa and John Lennon appear and disappear at the Conspiracy Lounge with some surprising results…

Their conversations are enlightening, absorbing, emotional, comical at times and highly fulfilling. When you see Abe Lincoln come through that door, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King just a few feet from you, hugging each other and trading stories, the beautiful and appealing Marilyn Monroe dancing with Jack, it makes them so real you might cry. Patillo has added small details to add to the complexity and authenticity of these living legends. You empathize and realize something of their mark on history and maybe even, how their lives affect you!

A Fisted Mitten Production, “Great theatre, by any means necessary!”

Reviews:

“Imagine Malcolm talking to Martin or John Kennedy talking to Robert and Abraham Lincoln. It’s history talking about history with a bartender from today. An amazing exchange. A great play featuring the words of all the greats – including Malcolm X played by one of my best-est of best-est friends – Kelvin Pierce ! Let’s support this production!!”
- from Pulitzer prize winning Author and Radio Personality Angelo Henderson

“OK. Got a sneak peek of the play, “Last Call at the Conspiracy Lounge” tonight. Really clever stage design and background music. Loved the flow of the play from one character to the next and the avidly researched background information that rounded out each one. Tiny details were interwoven into the play (ex: take note of the choice of drinks) and added extra depth. The play was well written, I thought the actors held their parts well and were quite convincing. By the time “Malcolm X” walked in, I was almost in tears thinking about the reality of these people and what their lives meant. Listen carefully – there is alot these characters have to say. I thought this was so well done and truly enjoyed it. Standouts were Marilyn Monroe and the bartender but truly enjoyed all the performers. Congrats, Dwight Patillo, cast and crew! I hope to see this again soon, bring some people with me and catch it again opening night in NY!!
Please. For your own sake.
Go. See. It!”
- UniversalSoul Media

(Regarding Caitlin Burt’s performance as Marilyn Monroe):
I LOVE your performance as Marilyn Monroe!! Something about you made me see how likeable and appealing she really was and how easy that whole situation could have blown out of control without her knowing or realizing it. You made her very real to me and I was immediately empathetic. Wonderful! See you and the crew again very soon!
- Ann Houston

LC@CL is available as a one time live streaming event -
August 2nd at 8:30 and 11:00 pm. Tickets are $5.95 per view.

So gross. All loose ends attacked: even the five-year confiscation of the Zapruder film.

At least it looks unwatchable. Stopped the trailer halfway through to prevent gagging, not from the lies, but from the syrup. Typical Hanks fare.

Has anyone here seen the film Executive Action, made in 1973 and directed by David Miller? I haven't, yet, but it's recommended today in a blogpost by Mathias Bröckers, who also mentions that the film was withdrawn from circulation only two weeks after its premiere - "Not because it was badly made or even poorly cast (Burt Lancaster, a veritable star, played the lead [alongside Robert Ryan]), but because it presents a background to the assassination -- the military-industrial complex -- that comes far closer to the truth than either the lone-gunman hypothesis or any [imagined] conspiracy of Mafia bosses."

Executive Action in full (91:40) on YouTube:

Wiki entry on Executive Action (1973):

The criticism of the film and its suggestion of a Military-industrial complex conspiracy led to the film being removed totally from the movie theaters by early December 1973 and getting no TV/Video runs until the 1980s and mid-1990s, when it got legal release and distribution for TV and video. The film was originally released on November 7, 1973, almost two weeks before the tenth anniversary of the JFK Assassination.

Donald Sutherland has been credited as having the idea for the film and for hiring Freed and Lane to write the screenplay.[2] Sutherland planned to act in and produce Executive Action, however, he abandoned the project and took a role in another film after failing to obtain financing for the film. The praise and critiques are all valid .. here's some more background on it ..

A forgotten one: Executive Action starring Burt Lancaster. 1973. Watched in context of the time, it's revealing.

in JFK & the Unspeakable, the author outlines how a President can piss off the powers that be ala the Bay of Pigs only so many times before they decide to get rid of that President.

in Executive Action, Will Geer plays a wealthy industrialist who holds off several times on green lighting the assassination, but when JFK looks like he will not be a disciple of the Domino Theory in regards to Viet Nam, Geer's character finally gets involved in the plot.

It's pretty awesome that Geer could go from playing this role and then segue into the role of Grandpa Walton for six years.

Indeed typical of Tom Hanks movie that "Parkland." None of what I saw in that film trailer even implies the totality of the events, like the governor waving off the guards that were supposed to stand on the president's motorcade, and those same guards being utterly perplexed - all caught on camera. It doesn't really explore anything, not even whistleblower paid assassins testimonies, not even the thousands of witness deaths (even FBI agents), other than to regurgitate the official narrative.

Oliver Stone's JFK is really the 'closest' to exploring the alternative - the unthinkable - of what happened at the forefront and behind the scenes, even if some of it was speculative, since that's all that could be done - connect the dots and posit possible motives of coverup. It also didn't really depict Garrison as how he was, but I thought Costner delivered one of the most emotional speeches, in that movie, I have ever seen regarding the subject and its implication for the future of the U.S.

A real, modern JFK movie to me would explore the entirety, and all the oddities, and simply imagine the 'narrative' (since all the facts can't be known) of what was going through the conspirators minds and who may have been pulling the strings. Sort of like the 'smoking man' of the X-Files, who is imagined to be an deep-state operative who was involved in shooting JFK and MLK, and setting up patsies.

Forgot about Will Geer. So, counting Dalton Trumbo, there were at least two from the Hollywood Blacklist that worked on Executive Action.

Speaking of 'Executive Action' .. the recent revelations about Dag Hammarskjöld help to shine a light on EAs ..
@lisapease: A CIA operative named Bud Culligan told the Church Committee he had participated in CIA "EA's" - "executive actions," i.e., assassinations.

Midnight in the Congo
The Assassination of Lumumba and the
Mysterious Death of Dag Hammarskjold

...In a curious episode, Daniel Schorr once questioned whether the CIA was behind the murder. The question must be set in its original context.

In January of 1975, President Ford was hosting a White House luncheon for New York Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger, among others, when the subject of the Rockefeller commission came up. One of the Times’ editors questioned the overtly conservative, pro-military bent of the appointees. Ford explained that he needed trustworthy citizens who would not stray from the narrowly defined topics to be investigated so they wouldn’t pursue matters which could damage national security and blacken the reputation of the last several Presidents. "Like what?" came the obvious question, from A. M. Rosenthal. "Like assassinations!" said clumsy ex-Warren Commission member Ford, who added quickly, "That’s off the record!" But Schorr took the question to heart, and wondered what Ford was hiding. Shortly after this episode, Schorr went to William Colby, then CIA Director, and asked him point blank, "Has the CIA ever killed anybody in this country?" Colby’s reply was, "Not in this country." "Who?" Schorr pressed. "I can’t talk about it," deferred Colby. The first name to spring to Schorr’s lips was not Lumumba, Trujillo, or even Castro. It was Hammarskjold...

The reference to cooperation between MI5 and CIA is not farfetched either. British and American interests worked together to defeat Mossadegh in Iran. In his book that was originally banned in Britain for revealing too many state secrets, former MI5 officer Peter Wright described how William Harvey, the head of the CIA’s "Executive Action" programs, accompanied by CIA Counterintelligence Chief James Angleton, visited MI5 in 1961 to ask for help finding assassins. And according to Paul Lashmar in his book Britain’s Secret Propaganda War 1948-1997, the British secretly aided in the overthrow of Sukarno in 1965, a coup for which the CIA bears a great deal of responsibility. ...

Confessions of a Hitman

In 1976, Roland "Bud" Culligan sought legal assistance. After serving the CIA for 25 years, Culligan was angry. He had performed sensitive operations for the company and felt he deserved better treatment than to be put in jail on a phony bad check charge so the agency could "protect" him from foreign intelligence agents. He had been jailed since 1971, and now the agency was disavowing any connection with him. His personal assets had mysteriously vanished, and his wife Sara was being harassed. But Culligan had kept one very important card up his sleeve. He had kept a detailed journal of every assignment he had performed for the CIA. He had dates, names, places. And Culligan was a professional assassin.

Culligan sought the aid of a lawyer who in turn required some corroborative information. The lawyer asked Culligan to provide explicit details, such as who had recruited him into the CIA, who was his mutual friend with Victor Marchetti, and could he describe in detail six executive action (E.A.) assignments. Culligan answered each request. One of the executive actions he detailed was his assignment to kill Dag Hammarskjold...

Whoa. I saw Executive Action at a drive-in theatre with a fatherless friend and his 'Big Brother" probably in 1973. (Taking curious and bloodthirsty boys to grown-up movies was one 'cool' thing a Big Brother could do.) We yakked about it after, and the Big Brother told us something along the lines of "a lot of people think that's what happened to the Kennedys and Martin Luther King... powerful people wanted them dead."

O youth, O little seeds of doubt.

Executive Action would show up on TV late movies for awhile in the 70's - 80's... I can remember watching it late at night in Ottawa in the early 80's... but I haven't seen it come around much since.
