Yeah. We need new members of different genders. But I'd imagine that if we started having open, in-depth, higher-quality discussion regarding gender, it would be more welcoming to people of different genders.

sorry to do this and I am sure that no one here cares about my reputation but I do...since a mod here has personally attacked me and outrageously lied about what I have posted and how frequently I need to set the record straight ....

so here's the last 3 years....looking back that's approximately 6500 posts since July of 2011

according to PW unbiased view :roll:

that would be about 3000 posts about AD that I have made.....are you freaking kidding me?? It's the most outrageous thing I have ever read at RI except the time Womby called me a misogynist or was it the times solace called me an anti-semite... :shrug:

This bothers me more than thread titles, this incessant harping about posters whom you don't like. Really, it's a swirling purgatory of unflushable poo-poo that regularly engulfs the board. Surely over the last 3 years a good 40% of your posts are nothing but complaints about AD
I'd rather hit myself with hammer and scream for 5 minutes than tend to it.

Well, slad sorta admits earlier in the thread that she's doing a tit-for-tat thing with AD on the issue, which is kinda goofy all 'round. But a new sub forum wouldn't hurt anybody, and might give the forum less of an appearance of a singular overarching fixation on the "jewish problem". No one is denying that Israel is a valid issue for discussion. If we had a new thread in GD about, for example, every US atrocity occurring on a daily basis, things would look a bit different, wouldn't they? But somehow that doesn't happen, because the fixation and focus on Israel, and by extension, Jews, is intensely cliche in this particular milieu, and borders on something entirely fucked up.

So, the object of this thread is the re-invigoration of the board. And I'm not berating anyone (except that fascist blue nose). I'm just pointing out that in a forum of only men, you get a hugely truncated world view. It's limiting, to say the least. Yes, you can dance with your legs cut off, but your cha-cha-cha is gonna be somewhat stilted.

On gender: How do you know how many males vs. females are here? You can't always tell by username. In fact you can NEVER tell.
On SLAD's suggestion to move TIDS: I agree - it should be moved to Data Dump. I don't even understand the purpose of that neverending post.
And a subforum for Israel/Palestine et al. discussion: Great idea but how to keep the recurrent posters from just posting in the GD forum instead of the subforum, where hardly anyone visits.
That's just how I feel.

That's "View active topics," to which there is a link right at the top of every index page on this site. Even though you see it every time you come here, it took me years to discover it! Once I did, I saw that it was the "Latest Threads" feature I had called for many times, not realizing that it had been here all along. It shows all updated threads, no matter from which sub-forum, in reverse chronological order of the latest update. Once I started using that as my interface for RI (except when posting a new thread - you have to do that through a specific board), it sort of made sub-fora obsolete for me.

However, I would love to see the following change, if someone like drew can code it for phpBB: Every new OP should include the requirement of specifying the sub-board to which it belongs. That would revive the sub-fora as subject indexes that one could usefully visit, and maybe defuse some of this fighting over which thread belongs where.

It's obvious this place has lost it's shine, hell, Jeff never evens posts here anymore and hasn't in a long while. I get the 'group dynamics' thing, that it takes a while before you're accepted here (or anywhere there is a close bond of like minds) On another note, all social groups inhale and exhale, meaning they wax and wane, some reinvent themselfs some don't; look at, 'moon of alabama' it was a TAZ at one time too. Anyway, I've asked before and never received an answer and I'd really like one before this place goes away, (if it does) however, I'd really, pretty please, and would pay for a consise archive of this site. Anyone?

Yes. I have long advocated for relocation of data dump threads from General Discussion to more appropriate locations.

1. Will this thread be a productive source of ideas for revision, or just a place to vent? I don't know who can say except Jeff. In the past, there have been many good ideas, but most haven't been implemented.

2. More moderators are necessary. One of the listed mods is MIA, and I know that PW and WRex are very busy people.

3. One old idea was to restructure the subfora, in order to streamline and make them more useable.

4. Other old ideas with some merit were to limit daily posts and to somehow incorporate feedback so we could manage our own preferences in some way that would make everyone happy.

5. Somebody has to pay for all this, and I think there's a lot of bandwidth wasted. Pruning would help.

6. I'm just gonna start printing important stuff for my own library, because I don't know if any of this will happen.

More moderators would be awesome. AD needs someone to appeal to when I threaten him via PM. Power needs to be diluted here.

It would also make for better discussions about moderation itself. PW and I are very different people in a lot of ways that, I think, might lead to communication gaps. It would be great to have a larger consensus guiding tough decisions.

I have been poking around here a lot a since this thread started trying to determine what I can, in fact, change (I/P subforum, for instance!) and it does not appear to be much.

We might be in the Kafka situation of inhabiting an environment where the control room is locked and none of us have a key. I've never really had questions for Jeff, since he was a hugely honest and prolific writer, and never wanted to give him, shall we say ... paternal guilt over this community. I think his decision to leave is, frankly, kinda awesome ... Gnostic Zen, if you'll permit to be so profane.

I agree 100%. One of the most obvious markers of this board's decline is the blatant misuse of the place for interminable private streams of consciousness. "TIDS" is an embarrassment and a daily irritation. (A hundred and how many pages now?) The same applies in spades to all three of those george-orwell's-haircut-is-behavior-not-truth dumps. Sometimes (and not seldom!) they're the top four threads on the board. It is deeply offputting, and not just to newcomers. And this misuse goes on and on and on, completely unsanctioned. A mere word from a mod would suffice to stop it.
