The U.N. Security Council unanimously approved a French-sponsored resolution Friday calling on all nations to redouble and coordinate action to prevent further attacks by Islamic State terrorists and other extremist groups.

Where do you see groups like Erdogan's party fitting in to the larger scheme of Middle Eastern politics
One of the very few long-time members who ever "defected" after rising up to the middle ranks is the Egyptian lawyer Tharwat El-Kharabawy. He not only left the Brotherhood, but after a decade basically deprogramming his mind, has become one of their most effective opponents, and has spilled a lot of their beans. Among other things, he described the time he spent with Erdogan as a fellow, fully committed Brother.
Erdogan is trying to reestablish the Turkish Empire, with himself as Caliph, ruling over the Sunni Muslims of the Middle East. But in doing that, he is fulfilling a role that has been assigned to him. I explained that in a bit more detail, and context, in the "Decoding the 'Middle East'" thread.

This is the geopolitical equivalent of a 9/11 no-planes theory, isn't it?
No, it's the psycho-intellectual equivalent of not being an idiot.

yes Russia went along
Remember, 40% or more of all suicide bombings worldwide in this 30-year period were attributed to LTTE. Were they real? What motivated them?
I'm not interested so much in a debate about whether Dabiq is really the magazine of ISIS or the production of an intel agency's psyops department. (Your responses on either side of that question may be predictable.) I'm not even interested in what you think of the Cracked author's take on it, although he has interesting things to say. I'm more interested in the question: Does this stuff in Dabiq appeal to anyone? If so, to whom? They aren't going to be like "us" here on this board, that is for sure. Most prophetic sci-fi film of the past decade? Dredd. Urbanize, urbanize, urbanize.
This "Walled World" infographic was quite nice, I hope it reproduces here:
