FIVE STABBED IN MASS CONFRONTATION BETWEEN TRADITIONALIST YOUTH NETWORK AND ANTIFA PROTESTERS IN SACRAMENTO [VIDEOS]

JUNE 26, 2016

Image

The confrontation between Antifa Sacramento and the Traditionalist Youth Network /Traditionalist Workers Party and other Nazi and KKK groups hit a heated point today with reports saying at least five people were stabbed and dozens injured. The rally by Trad Youth was intended to protest “globalization” and multiculturalism, and was emboldened by the recent Brexit vote and the meteoric rise of Donald Trump. Trad Youth is the organizing project of well-known white nationalist Matthew Heimbach, who attempts to link up the young Alt Right with the more established groups on the radical racist fringe.

So it was all Anti-Fa who got stabbed, right? I haven't seen much clarity in anybody's coverage. Shiv'ing mogs up is definitely more "prison graduate" behavior than anything I'd associate with Anti-Fa, but I haven't been to California since the 90's.

While I have profound disdain for knives in fights, the video footage sure looks like an emergency self-defense situation to me; ie, being rushed by a large people with sticks who all want to attack you. Maybe not the best approach, but to each their own in this big beautiful free country.

Absolutely horrible crowd control -- always hard to parse sheer incompetence from malicious intent.

Guess what, neo-Nazi group attacked in Sacramento is pro-Assad and pro-Putin

It is old news by now that virtually every neo-Nazi or ultraright outfit in Europe is solidly behind Vladimir Putin and Bashar al-Assad, from Golden Dawn to Marine Le Pen’s National Front. As you are also probably aware, the Brexit campaign was pushed heavily by Nigel Farage of the UK Independence Party, a rabidly anti-immigrant group that advocates working with Bashar al-Assad.

The first sign of a similar development in the USA was obviously the Donald Trump campaign that is first cousin to the UKIP. Trump stated that the Brexit vote was a great thing and hoped that its goals could be replicated in the USA. As it happens, the neo-Nazi group that was attacked in Sacramento yesterday by anti-fascists falls squarely within the global Red-Brown alliance. You almost have to wonder whether a pro-Assad group like the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) might be tempted to come to their aid the next time the neo-Nazi group is threatened.

The neo-Nazis are constituted as the Traditional Worker Party and led by a character named Matthew Heimbach who first came to attention as the Donald Trump supporter who roughed up a Black female protester at his rally in Louisville in early March. That’s him in the red baseball cap.

THE NEW NEO-NAZIS: HOW MATTHEW HEIMBACH IS BUILDING A RACIST NETWORK ACROSS THE US

To understand why Heimbach and the Traditionalist Youth Network/Workers Party (although small) is important, we have to revisit the white nationalist scene in the early 1980s to mid to late 1990s, when the movement reached its most militant height and suffered from dramatic implosion. In 1983, the country was in an economic crisis much like today, and just as events such as the Waco Massacre or the more recent Bundy Ranch stand-off spurred many on the Right to action, a burgeoning farm crisis was also drawing many militants into the frey. Angry over foreclosures and the actions of banks, farmers began to speak of armed resistance. Gordon Kahl, who was once a member of the far-Right group, Posse Comitatus, became a martyr for the movement after dying in a shoot-out with authorities in the summer of ’83. Soon after, The Order, a white nationalist terrorist organization burst onto the scene out of the Pacific Northwest and carried out a wave of bank robberies, bombings, and the assassination of a radio talk-show host. The group was based upon the fictional organization presented in the book, The Turner Diaries, written by William Piece, who led the white nationalist organization, the National Alliance.

Through their bank robberies, The Order was able to fleece the white nationalist movement with hundreds of thousands of dollars, including the National Alliance. Founder of The Order, Robert Matthews, (pictured above) was later killed by law enforcement in a shootout and continues to be considered a martyr by white racists while still imprisoned members are described as political prisoners. David Lane, who still is incarcerated, is credited with the famous, “14 words,” often referred to by white nationalists including Heimbach.

Image

In 1989, former Klansman and Neo-Nazi David Duke (who also has ties to Heimbach) ran for the Louisiana House of Representatives and won, staying in office until 1992. Duke, who became a Neo-Nazi while in college, went on to become involved in Knights of the Ku-Klux-Klan and various white power groups that took up the torch of the American Nazi Party (ANP) formed by George Lincoln Rockwell. Many of those involved in the KKK who were close to Duke went on to become other large movers and shakers within the racist Right, such as Tom Metzger (White Aryan Resistance), Don Black (Stormfront.org), and racist serial killer, Joe Franklin. After winning his House of Representatives seat, Duke then attempted to run for Governor and lost, although he came very close. This shot in the arm to the white nationalist movement showed how far these ideas could translate in rural, working and middle class white areas.

But Duke’s election also showed the sickening poison of white supremacy on the white working-class. When Duke was elected into office in the Louisiana State Legislature in 1989, he came into power as his largely all-white district were facing massive unemployment and poverty. What’s ironic is that Duke campaigned on a predictably racist platform of gutting welfare and other social programs to African-Americans but in reality mostly just made life worse for the constituents in his district.

But while Duke was in office, other activity was brewing across the country. In Portland, Sacramento, and elsewhere, the white power scene grew in militancy and carried out arson attacks against synagogues and various murders. Other right-wing militants were also becoming more active, for instance, the anti-abortion movement carried out a series of bombings across the US during the 1990s. In 1995, seeking vengeance against the siege and massacres at Waco, Texas and Ruby Ridge, Timothy McVeigh, who was influenced by the Creativity Movement (a white nationalist take on Christianity) and the National Alliance, exploded a bomb at a federal building in Oklahoma City.

Image

Throughout the 1990s however, those on the racist Right were seeing the growth of both an old, and new foe – anarchists. Learning from experiences by militants in the UK group, Anti-Fascist Action, a new group in the 90s called Anti-Racist Action (ARA) hit the streets and used physical confrontation to shut down meetings, protests, rallies, and events called by white nationalists, the KKK, and Neo-Nazis skinheads.

But by the 1990s, the white racist Right had more problems than anarchists disrupting their meetings and fighting them in the streets, as many white nationalist groups fell apart and their leaders went to jail (for a variety of embarrassing acts for the master race) or died. Aryan Nations, the National Alliance, World Church of the Creator; all the major players in the 90s were hit with lawsuits, arrests, infiltration, deaths, and money problems. But by the middle-to late 2000s, the movement saw an upsurge again, as white reaction to the immigration movement, Obama’s presidency, and the stand-off at Bundy Ranch again breathed life into the movement. It is in this context that a young person like Matthew Heimbach could rise to the surface.

To say that you are a Nazi, in America, has always had vaguer connotations than saying that you support, for instance, the Ku Klux Klan. Nazism was never a force here—it never vented American grievances or buttressed an American political movement—so the extent to which American Nazism is meant literally, and not just as the darkest racial gesture imaginable, always requires some sorting out. Despite this lack of national grounding, the volume of Nazi material this year has grown alarmingly, and it has appeared not just around fringe movements but also in defense of a mainstream political campaign. Anonymous Trump supporters have sent reporters whom they believe to be Jewish images of gas chambers and of those reporters wearing yellow stars. White supremacists have been aggressive online, but in real life they’ve been scarcer. “There’s more of us than you think,” a man attending the annual white-supremacist conference American Renaissance told a reporter there last month. This would have seemed more ominous if the conference had drawn more than three hundred people.

There has been an echo of all of this across the Atlantic, where the British referendum to leave the European Union inspired swastikas and “Heil Hitler” salutes on stickers around Glasgow, and a visual reference to Nazi propaganda in a U.K. Independence Party advertisement. Tommy Mair, the fifty-two-year-old handyman who murdered the Labour M.P. Jo Cox, shouted either “Britain First,” the name of a far-right party supporting the Leave campaign, or “Put Britain first,” the broader sentiment behind it, as he shot and then stabbed her. Mair turned out to have sent small amounts of cash to the National Alliance, the largest American neo-Nazi group, for years.

The Nazi sympathies meant the Leave campaigners could distinguish themselves from Mair. The assassination suggested that people like him where a threat that needed management. “A troubled loner,” the Daily Mail insisted, who “supported far-right causes.” “A mentally ill loner,” the Sun confirmed. Boris Johnson, the former mayor of London and a leader of the Leave movement, took the opportunity to explain that he himself was a “very moderate liberal conservative,” and that taking “control” of immigration was the only way to “spike the guns of the extremists and the people who are genuinely anti-immigrant.” It sounded like a hostage-taking, with Mair the man in the explosive vest: If you don’t give him what he wants, I can’t answer for what he’ll do.

Donald Trump’s campaign for president on a platform of open racism, xenophobia, and national chauvinism has given a green light to neo-Nazi/KKK political forces. The far-right wing is on the ascension – they feel it, they’re emboldened, and they’re looking to use Trump’s campaign as a pole of attraction and venue to organize their political program of racist violence on a mass scale and to an audience previously unavailable to them. This has led directly to an increase in racist attacks against Latina/o, black, immigrant and Arab communities across the country.

While Trump’s openly racist positions on immigration, especially against Latinas/os and Muslims, represent a new and dangerous level of extreme right-wing demagoguery, the Democrats hardly utter a peep in opposition, while carrying out their own national policies against the Latina/o and immigrant communities – not in words, but in practice – with the continued raids and deportations and attacks on public education. Only an organized, mass militant, integrated youth-led movement that is politically independent can mobilize the social forces necessary to defeat the Nazis/KKK, stop the rise of “Trumpism,” and finally put this nation on the road to progress once more.

This demonstration will be an opportunity for Latina/o, black, anti-racist white youth and California’s strong and proud majority-minority communities to unite to send a loud and clear message to the Nazis/KKK and their supporters: we will not tolerate organizing of racist and bigoted violence. All who oppose racist, anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim, anti-Semitic, anti-gay and other bigoted attacks should mobilize to show their opposition. A determined opposition prepared to assert our collective power through mass militant direct action can shut these Nazis down and deal the fascists and white-supremacists a decisive tactical defeat.

WHY PROTEST THE NAZI SCUM?

Some people will say: “Ignore them, stay home, they are too small to be a threat, protesting against them will give them the publicity they want”, etc. Those encouraging this kind of “do-nothing” strategy are either naive fools or deceitful traitors. Ignoring the Nazis/KKK gives them an open platform to recruit, consolidate their organization and build their campaign. If we do not organize to protest at the same time and same place as the Nazis/KKK, then the only people in attendance will be those who are considering joining their ranks. We must be there to make sure that anyone sympathetic to their message is unable to hear it and has an extremely discouraging day.

By having a massive anti-racist, anti-fascist protest at the State Capitol on June 26, we will make sure that any publicity or news coverage of the day will show thousands of Latina/o, black, Asian, Arab and anti-racist white youth fighting for progress. If we stay home and allow them to have an open platform, any media coverage they receive will portray an unopposed successful event at which a small group of determined, proud racists were able to boldly assert themselves, recruit new members and advance a new campaign for racist terror and ultimately genocide. This is a scenario we cannot allow to happen. Instead, the racists must be sent scurrying for their cars as they are confronted with the strength of California’s powerful Latina/o and black communities. That is not the kind of publicity the Nazis want.

BUILD THE INDEPENDENT POWER OF THE NEW CIVIL RIGHTS AND IMMIGRANT RIGHTS MOVEMENT!

The growing polarization and ongoing economic and social crisis will continue to bring new forces into struggle.

In California, more than any other state in the nation, our new civil rights and immigrant rights movement has shown that we have the social power to change everything. Los Angeles had the largest civil rights demonstration in the country’s history, 2 million people shutting down business as usual during the 2006 movement for immigrant rights. Black youth led the mass, militant uprising in Ferguson, MO after the police murder of Michael Brown and inspired a wave of demonstrations and protest action against racism and racist police murder and brutality that swept the nation.

The Latina/o and immigrant communities of California are the most dynamic political force for social progress and equality today. Our movement desperately needs a new generation of fighters and activists to come forward now and develop as independent political leaders for the movement. By learning from struggle, drawing political lessons from history, and utilizing the method and tactics that assert our collective power, a new generation of leaders can ensure our movement’s victory.

The fascists exploit the discontent and economic hardship experienced by white, downwardly mobile middle-class and working-class youth. They offer fake, radical sounding solutions to the growing problems of
unemployment, poverty and economic insecurity in the U.S. today.

The fascists scapegoat and call for attacks on the immigrant, Latina/o, black, Muslim, Jewish, and LGBT communities and against the trade unions, leftists, and other progressive organizations.

To this torrent of cynical racist lies, our integrated civil rights and immigrant rights movement must counter pose real, working-class solutions to the economic and socialcrisis. Latina/o, black, Native American, Arab, Asian, and white, immigrants with and without papers, we are ALL Californians! Open the borders! Full citizenship rights for all undocumented immigrants, refugees, and asylum-seekers now! Build an independent, integrated, mass militant movement of the oppressed to fight racism, sexism, anti-LGBT and all forms of bigotry, national chauvinism, and xenophobia.

Our aim on this day must be to build our new movement. We must take matters into our own hands. Some will want to use this day simply as a means to contribute to the votes of the Democratic Party, whether that be for Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders. We cannot be distracted by that. Only the independent power of our movement can defeat the far-right forces of reaction. We need to make clear to every fascist and fascist-sympathizer promoting white supremacy and racist violence that they will face militant, organized, and determined opposition. This is our fight to make and our future to win.

TRADITIONALIST YOUTH NETWORK GETS FUNDRAISING BLOCKED BY PAYPAL

The Traditionalist Youth Network and their leader Matthew Heimbach’s attempt to fundraise on their massive loss in Sacramento has been shut down by a massive show of pressure by anti-racist community organizers.

The Traditionalist Youth Network and their political wing, the Traditionalist Workers Party, linked up with neo-Nazi skinheads and KKK members throughout California to have their rally against multiculturalism in Sacramento. TradYouth, which often tries to act as a working-class oriented Alt Right organization, likes to mask its fascist ideological roots. This rarely works since it shares members with the Golden State Skinheads and Sac City Skinheads as well as various neo-Nazi and Klan groups.

The event was shut down when hundreds of anti-fascist protesters arrived, canceling down their event before it happened, forcing their permit to be voided, battling them out in the open in a large street action, and literally chasing every Nazi away and bleeding. In response, TradYouth started stabbing people, beginning with an elderly woman who was doing nothing more challenging than yelling at them.

MAINSTREAMING RACIAL NATIONALISM: BREXIT, META-POLITICS, AND THE CONSEQUENCES OF LEFT-RIGHT ALLIANCES
JUNE 29, 2016

“No borders, no nations! Stop deportations”

The crowd of over two thousand protesters chanted as they marched through East London, an area that is notable for its history of multicultural inhabitants. The crowd donned Anti-Fascist Action flags, many with faces covered for fear of further police repression. The voices echoed a complexity to the “Brexit” vote that those outside of the Europea Union (and even those inside of the EU) attempt to grasp with what this decision means and symbolizes.

This week, a majority of 51.9% of voting United Kingdom residents voted to leave the European Union, a project that they have been a part of for over forty years. This is the first country in the EU to do this, a zone that was intended to both reconcile political tensions and to smooth over neo-liberal capitalist expansion. This is the first vote since the 1970s, and, at the time, the vote was not even close. Today, the force to leave toppled over the edge and is forcing a push away from the united continental project. Even after a Britain First affiliate and advocate of Brexit killed a pro-immigrant British MP, the vote still passed through with a slim majority.

While it has been largely acknowledged that the Brexit campaign was a xenophobic and racist push from the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) and Britain First, there has also been a reasonable Lexit (left exit) side to the campaign. Internationally, left circles have been debating the merits of this position, debating the role of a left contingent inside of a hard right campaign. Groups in the United States like the International Socialist Organization have showed a certain admiration for the Lexit contingent, while most mainstream progressives are standing back in horror.

The primary impulse for many on the radical left is to look at the vote as a series of component parts that have meaning, while the politics themselves will largely play out as business as usual.

Image
Britain First

Donald Brexit

A comparison to the Donald Trump campaign stateside is useful, especially as it has often been used by the British left to put the recent events in England in context. When comparing the realities of the political choices of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump it quickly reminds us just how little a vote allows for real decision making as it retains ruling class power no matter the distinction. Though there are great differences between the candidates, they are minor when it comes to large-scale social systems, and do nothing to challenge systemic inequality. You will never be able to vote the rich out of their wealth

But what does the Donald Trump candidacy really represent?

It has mobilized a revolutionary wing of the far-right to begin crossing over into the racialist undercurrent of the right-wing segment of the white working class, creating a populist-right block that is as frightening as it is large. This has shifted the politics in the country to the right on social issues and race, and has created an open space to transform “dog whistle” racist politics into blunt racial nationalism. The possible Trump presidency and the right-populist community, only reinforced ideologically by the Alt Right, could act reciprocally, as Trump’s call for banning Muslim immigration has mobilized their Islamophobia, which will then further push Trump to live up to his promise.

SACRAMENTO NAZI DERIK PUNNEO OF BAC LOCAL 3

Derik Ryan Punneo is the man seen wielding a knife with bloody hands apparently after stabbing anti-racist protesters in the widely circulated images from the Nazi rally in Sacramento on 6/26. After a planned rally at the California state capital by the Traditionalist Workers Party and the Golden State Skinheads was prevented from taking place by a large number of anti-fascist and anti-racist protesters, a group of Nazis donning t-shirts featuring the TWP logo attacked and stabbed a number of protesters. While the strong showing from protesters decisively defeated the Nazis and their political aspirations in the streets, 7 anti-racist protesters suffered wounds requiring hospitalization from these stabbings.

Punneo currently resides in Sacramento and works with the Bricklayers, Tilesetters and Allied Craftworkers Union, BAC Local 3. He has a widely documented history of arrests for violent behavior including an arrest for an attempted rape in 2010 and several more arrests in 2012. Such activity seems far removed from the calls for “Faith, Family, and Folk” of the Neo-Nazi Traditionalist Worker Party he is a member of, but is common within the violent Neo-Nazi skinhead subculture of the Golden State Skinheads that he comes out of.

Two of Punneo’s associates were arrested and charged after they kidnapped and violently retaliated against two individuals that had called the police due to Punneo’s attempted rape of a woman. According to court documents:

The prosecutor’s recitation of the factual basis for the plea stated codefendant Derik Punneo was arrested for attempted rape and resisting arrest after he assaulted a woman and was forced out of the house by two others, who called the police. While Punneo was in custody, he contacted defendant and codefendant Taylor Schwartz, told them what had happened, and accused the victims of stealing his money. Defendant and Schwartz found the two who had called the police; forced them into a car; drove them home; ransacked their house; beat up the man; and threatened that, if the victims went to court, bad things would happen and their house would be burned down.

The document then went on to state:

The prosecutor stated there was information that Punneo, Schwartz, and defendant were members of a skinhead gang and that Schwartz and defendant aided Punneo because they were all skinheads. Both Punneo and Schwartz had tattoos and indicia of being members of the skinhead gang; and a gang expert would testify that Punneo, Schwartz, and defendant all acted for the benefit of a criminal street gang and participated in a gang known as the skinheads…Thereafter, defendant pled guilty to being an active member of a criminal street gang…

Ku Klux Klan sees Donald Trump as a sign things are going their way

Image

With historic familial ties to the hate based organization, it is no wonder the Klan loves Trump. Klansmen across the nation see Trump's successes within the GOP electorate as a sign their message is getting across.

Via TPM:

KKK leader Brent Waller, imperial wizard of the United Dixie White Knights in Mississippi, said stopping immigration — not blocking minority rights — is the Klan's No. 1 issue today.

And other Klan leaders say Donald Trump's ascendancy in the GOP is a sign things are going their way.

"You know, we began 40 years ago saying we need to build a wall," Arkansas-based Klan leader Thomas Robb said.

Despite trying to rebrand itself, the Klan has not stepped away from burning crosses. As the sun set on a warm Saturday in April, Klan members gathered in a huge circle in a northwest Georgia field to set a cross and Nazi swastika afire.

"White power!" they chanted in unison.

"Death to the ungodly! Death to our enemies!"
