Still curious, anybody who has played this game? Does it force you to activate your camera and or location services been turned on?

Yeah it does. I watched my brother play it. At first the Pokemon is identified via GPS and when you find one and "engage" it the camera comes on. My brother was here for two days and he couldn't find one around. He wasn't actively playing or anything but like I said upthread the first one he found was perched on top of my dad's head while he was watching TV.

Two men fall off cliff near San Diego while playing Pokémon Go

ENCINITAS, Calif. — Two men apparently fell from a cliff above a beach near San Diego on Wednesday while they were playing Pokémon Go, according to KSWB.

The men were playing the game in Encinitas when they fell more than 75 feet to the beach below. According to officers, the men got distracted while trying to catch Pokémon.

Crews at the scene used a rope to rescue one of the men. Neither man was seriously injured.

'Pokémon Go' Player Gets Stabbed, Continues to Catch 'Em All

OK, yeah, everyone is going apeshit for Pokémon Go. The AR app is already more popular than porn and has people so hooked that they're playing during visits to Auschwitz. People are even putting off seeking out medical attention so they can keep playing, according to Oregon's Fox 12.

Michael Baker was walking outside near his home in Forest Grove playing Pokémon Go when he stumbled upon a complete stranger with his phone out. Baker asked the guy if he was also playing the game—because who isn't?—and the man responded by whipping out a knife and stabbing Baker in the shoulder. Baker, though, allegedly soldiered on with his pokéquest, terrible bleeding wound and all. He also managed to pick up some snacks at a convenience store.

"Right after I was stabbed, I continued my mission to Plaid Pantry to get chips and beer," Baker told Fox 12. "I basically risked my life."

He said he then strolled over to the hospital—probably hoping to catch a Gastly—and wound up getting eight stitches. Baker isn't worried about the injury deterring him from being the very best, like no one ever was, though.

"I got to basically catch them all," he said.

Pokémon Go Users Took Control of the Westboro Baptist Church and They’re Not Pleased

loveislove.jpg

If you haven’t noticed already, you’re about to. Suddenly everyone’s playing, Pokémon Go. Soon you’ll notice masses of people gathered in one spot, say a public park, holding their phones in the air. Pokémon Go is an app that demands its users collect Pokémon (short for pocket monsters) that are hanging out in real spots around the globe (in augmented reality).

In the game, certain locations are named as “gyms” where you can battle your Pokemon against another team’s Pokemon. The Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas was designated as one such gym and a team has taken it over using a monster called a Clefairy. That Clefairy is named, appropriately, “LOVEISLOVE”.

The hateful church, known for being active on social media, is not sitting this one out quietly. They have already responded.

USA Today reports:

“We try to speak whatever language is being spoken,” said Steve Drain, an elder at the church.

Drain considers Pokémon Go light entertainment that some might idolize over religion, but the way he sees it, if the church can get its message across using a pink animated creature from the game, why not? “Pokémon Go and sin no more. That’s what the lord Jesus Christ said,” he added.

The church has gotten a mix of responses on social media, from those expressing support and criticizing it. One person challenged the group to a Pokemon battle.

“This little church, as despised and vilified as we are, the location of this church will be memorialized throughout eternity,” Drain said. “We’re willing by God’s grace to say that homosexuality is wrong, and that’s what we’ve been known for, even though we preach the whole counsel of God.”

Operation population control...between car accidents; thugs and pedophiles lying in wait; walking into trees, traffic and moving trains; falling off cliffs; stepping into traps; gunning down trespassers; battling gamers, etc., it's a wonder they'll be anyone left. :wink

Hillary Clinton is holding a campaign event at a Pokémon Go gym

Image

"As if the surreal events surrounding the stratospheric spread of Pokémon Go could not get any more ludicrous, presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is holding a campaign event at a Pokémon Go gym. The area is Madison Park in Lakewood, OH, and it doubles as a Pokéstop as well. "Join us as we go to the Pokéstop in Madison Park and put up a lure module, get free pokémon, and battle each other while you register voters and learn more about Sec. Hillary Clinton!!! Kids welcome!" reads the Clinton campaign website. The event takes place this Saturday, July 16th, from 1PM to 2PM ET."

Some positives:
I’m seeing pediatric trauma patients who didn’t want to get out of bed to ambulate because of pain now walking the halls in search of Pokemon with smiles on their faces. This is such an amazing thing.

The children’s hospital near me has 4 pokestops and a gym. Since the adult hospitals in the area don’t, I believe it was beautifully intentional

We are an adult and children’s level 1 trauma hospital. We have 2 gyms, 3 pokestops inside (a mural, statue, and a tribute to organ donors) and 2 just outside (a statue and a fountain)!

Perhaps, but how soon until this first augmented layer of re-enchantment no longer suffices?
And we need new layer after layer to just get out of bed again?

Regular life can get pretty bland once you start looking through a glass onion.

Glass Onion

I told you about strawberry fields
You know the place where nothing is real
Well here's another place you can go
Where everything flows
Looking through the bent backed tulips
To see how the other half live
Looking through a glass onion

I told you about the walrus and me, man
You know that we're as close as can be, man
Well here's another clue for you all
The walrus was Paul
Standing on the cast iron shore, yeah
Lady Madonna trying to make ends meet, yeah
Looking through a glass onion

Oh yeah
Oh yeah
Oh yeah
Looking through a glass onion

I told you about the fool on the hill
I tell you man he living there still
Well here's another place you can be
Listen to me
Fixing a hole in the ocean
Trying to make a dove-tail joint, yeah
Looking through a glass onion

For years one of my pet things to wonder about when walking or cycling outside is why the streets were so f*cking empty! Where is evereybody?! No kids playing, no people walking their dogs, nothing.. like a ghosttown. Well since pokemon go appeared i see them. From young kids to adults. Walking around with their phone. Outside. Mostly in groups of 2 or 3. Asking strangers even if they know where the pokemons are. And it's not even officially out where i live! They have to specially make an international apple account for it or something. Craaaazy! But at least this is not a superscary development or something i guess.

Word. I think it is scary in the sense that the Internet has been driving people's eyeballs to certain cyber locations for years, Jesus 20 years, dang dun got old, anyways, but now it is actually moving people's bodies around in real time. Think about it, a ridiculous kid app has mobilized thousands, millions? to certain locations based on imaginary rewards. The Internet is bleeding more and more into reality and driving people's behavior all the while people are convinced they are in control. Just wait for Porn-mon Go, Gambling-mon Go, Pimp-mon Go, etc.
