Was surprised CNN had a top headline article about what many people see as a coming hot war between the US/West and Russia. If Obama was the often wishy washy war hawk(beef up the Afghan war, drone a little there, drone a little there, destabilize Libya, ect) You know Hillary and her PNAC backers have a much more insane foreign policy agenda. Seeing people who were old enough to remember the height of the Cold War in the 50s-70s saying
they think we're past a cold war and possibly near a hot war....bad stuff. For now, I want to believe the chances of a war with Russia is on par with people who thought the US would invade Iran in 2006.

Here's the fucking thing and I am probably going to write a lot more about it going forward. So. . . .

I definitely think there is a direct/indirect causation with trump and everything falling apart -- or what we perceive to be falling apart -- really same difference. The discord is seeping through in seemingly small ways. The only thing I can think of is that guy. He's making everyone meaninglessly nervous. Like they say, most women get beat around on Sundays because of football. I don't know the veracity of that assertion, but it's just some thing that we have all heard all of our lives.

I just have witnessed so many random meltdowns in the past few days that I went into brainstorm mode trying to find the common link. Honestly it is trump fucking overload. Trust me, I do not know.

I agree 100% with you. But sometimes causes and symptoms can be self same. I've said it elsewhere, but he represents what we Gen-Xers call "A disturbance in the Force". I am as iconoclastic as they come but this is totally fucked. Like it needs to be said, but I want no one to live in fear.

As far as "melt downs" among people dear to me, it has happened all at once. It brought me to tears and nausea today having to handle the emotions. That's just me! Very few people are still falling for (or actively engaging in the denial of) the "silly 80s celebrity" routine here. Usual suspects, sorry 8bit and Nordic. Those who remember this character since the 80s forward should know him too well for that. And if I speak of Kayfabe or the psychological dynamics of reality TV, it ain't to dismiss it as silly. It is all the more sinister. Denial about Trump is related to denial about the power of the unhinged right generally. It's also denial of US history since the 1960s, and related to attempts to pretend everything bad can be attributed to a single core of money-following international "globalists" and everything that can't be so attributed is somehow just relatively harmless reaction or else a genuinely good thing.

But I can see where 82_28 is coming from. It feels like people close to me are very close to meltdowns of their own. I have family members who were big Bernie supporters and would curse Clinton's name a few months ago now completely devoted to, not just here election, but to the moral superiority of her ascendance. Why? Because the continued antics (and crimes) of Trump are sending them into mental meltdown.

Remember the 2012 election and the biggest scandal was Mitt Romney strapping his dog to the roof of the family car while taking a 1,000 mile road trip? That was it, aside from a leaked tape where he said that 47% of the country didn't matter because they weren't voting for him no matter what. Snooze-fest compared to today. This year we have a new scummy story every 24 hours now, from both sides, whether it involves sex crimes or political crimes. People are disgusted, but they are also completely engaged because to disengage would mean the election of a disgusting person that is more disgusting than the alternative.

I'm at the verge of a meltdown myself, and this campaign is only adding to it. My wife lost her job two weeks ago due to a PTSD meltdown. I had a similar issue this last August and have been looking for new work ever since. We are both unemployed at the moment (with interviews lined up, so hopefully not much longer!) and the bills are coming due. We had a CAT 4 hurricane bearing down on us last week and there were three murders within a half-mile radius of my home last weekend. Oh, and now we might be headed towards nuclear war with Russia.

The 2016 election is honestly the LEAST of my worries, but it's like background music to looming disaster that I just can't turn off.

I'm so sorry. The stress of the hurricane, three murders in your neighborhood.... it would be hard on anyone, but with your own recent trauma, I can imagine it all must feel overwhelming. Maybe take a break from the election news and be as easy with yourself & yours as possible. 'Recovery' is rarely linear.
