Exposing and Defeating the Fascist Creep

Image In light of the fact that Donald Trump is president, and that his consigliere Steve Bannon has publicly expressed a favorable view of the Italian fascist and SS enthusiast Julius Evola; considering the possibility that the neofascist Marine Le Pen's Front National could win the 2017 elections in France; and given the explosive violence targeting Muslims, Jews and people of color in the US since Trump's election, the time is certainly right to read and widely discuss Alexander Reid Ross's new book, Against the Fascist Creep (AK Press, 2017).

As the title suggests, Reid Ross is concerned here with the "fascist creep," which is related to the idea of the "fascist drift," or the disturbing attraction many 20th-century leftists felt for this new reactionary ideology. Fascists reject mainstream conservatism as decrepit and corrupt (see the contemporary alt-right's repudiation of the GOP), and while they violently oppose liberalism, socialism and anarchism, they paradoxically wield left-wing notions, such as solidarity and liberation as part of their ultranationalist schemes for a falsely classless society, which is to be characterized by "natural hierarchy." Fascism also relies heavily on myth, in the sense that its proponents seek to restore a "golden age" that supposedly existed in the putatively heroic past by means of "national revolution" against the existing liberal-parliamentarian order. This romantic-revolutionary element represents another commonality in the creep between fascism and leftism, considering the nostalgia for the precapitalist "lost paradise" that sometimes drives left-wing passions. In fact, Reid Ross writes that fascists gain ground precisely by deploying "some variant of racial, national, or ethnocentric socialism," opportunistically inverting the internationalist goals of socialism. Clearly, fascists and leftists differ principally on the question of egalitarianism, with the latter defending equality by organizing against capitalism, the state, borders, patriarchy and racism, while the former use these oppressive systems to reproduce inequality, domination and genocide.

RICHARD SPENCER JUST GOT HIS ASS KICKED AND GLITTER BOMBED [VIDEOS]

News is just coming in that Alt Right leader Richard Spencer was just pulled out of a cab in Washington D.C., beat up, and had glitter thrown all over him. People will remember Spencer as the star of a 1000 memes, all from when he got punched in the face while doing a street-interview during Trump’s inauguration.

Spencer’s troubles today all stem back to the bombing of Syria by Donald Trump in what he calls a “total betrayal” of the Alt Right. Spencer is an anti-interventionist from a nationalist perspective, one that is shared by the far-right wing of the anti-imperialist movement. He has now called for an anti-war movement from the Alt Right, and thought he would join an action in Washington D.C. to speak out against the disaster of sending missiles overseas.

He came out arguing that Assad was a reasonable and “secular” person in the reason, and that there should be “peaceful and mutually beneficial relationship” with the U.S. and Assad’s regime. The rally he organized was “AltRight sponsored” in an attempt to forge bonds with the anti-war left. He “soap boxed” to a growing crowd who hated Spencer as much as they do Trump, and his crowd of a couple-dozen fashy haircuts was shouted down with chants of “Nazi Snowflake” and “Go Home Nazis!” The protests were organized, in part, by the One People’s Project, and an organized contingent was there long before the fascists showed up.

Washington DC: Richard Spencer Flees as Antifa Shuts Down Fascist Rally

This move had nothing to do with stopping the horrors of imperialism, war, or the threat that large scale nuclear conflict would entail, but instead was based on the Alt-Right’s warped ideology of fascism, genocide, and white supremacy that sees American military action as a distraction from the war that needs to be fought on American soil against non-whites.

Despite it’s recent break-up, the Alt-Right is most famous for hitching itself to Trump’s wagon, even bragging that they had been the key ingredient that helped to elect him. But for those that have been paying attention to Trump, the recent actions in Syria should come as no surprise. Chief strategist, Steve Bannon, who famously declared that his former website, Breitbart was a “platform for the Alt-Right,” and spoke positively of fascist writers such as Evola, have long written and talked about how the US would soon engage in military conflicts throughout the world. Trump has also stated numerous times his intention to engage in regime change, use nuclear weapons, and push for military attacks with other countries, even going as far to say once in front of the CIA that there might even be another Iraq war.

Trump’s cabinet and administration is also staffed with corporate CEOs, especially from the energy industry; people who would benefit immensely from continued US wars in the middle east that could secure access to vast supplies of oil. Trump’s latest imperialistic excursions aren’t a break with Trumpism, but simply the realization that Trump is an authoritarian and extreme version of both neoliberalism, American imperialism, and intervention abroad. While Trump may have sold himself as a far-Right populist, his real drive is to secure power and wealth for the ruling class as the US continues to fracture in the face of continued crisis and class stratification.

Trump’s recent bombing in Syria takes place as his support has never been lower, and now even half of white men polled say they don’t support Trump. Furthermore, Trump’s broad attack on the poor, the entire working-class, the environment, health-care, social programs, immigrants, and refugees – all helps to continue ramped up repression on a mass scale, threatens life on this planet, and also moves massive amounts of wealth out of the hands of everyday Americans and into the pockets of the elites.

The Alt-Right knows it’s ship is sinking along with Trump’s and they are trying to desperately abandon it before they drown. However, no amount of rebranding themselves as ‘anti-war’ will hide the fact that they openly promote anti-Semitism, neo-Nazism, fascism, and genocide against people of color.

Trump Supporters: A House Divided

Like most structures built by Donald Trump which outwardly appear sophisticated and finely constructed, but under the surface are primarily composed of particle board with a mahogany veneer and gold-colored paint, the coalition of alt-right racists, resentful whites frightened by changing demographics and a loss of power, and Republican supporters who support the candidate come hell or high water isn't looking so gilded as a result of his decision to reverse course and bomb a base in Syria.

In short, his alt-right supporters are losing their shit.

Richard Spencer who once literally hailed (or heiled) Donald Trump has denounced the invasion and held what he styled as an anti-war rally to oppose him.... and was glitter bombed for his troubles.

Ann Coulter, always a nasty piece of work, is tweeting about how depressed she is about the attack and hoping that his supporters will reign him back in.

Frog faced (and you know I'm right about that description) Nigel Farage, Brexit architect and Trump's choice as UK ambassador to the United States, has spoken out against his actions as has fascist French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen.

The alt-right and conspiracy theory spreading news has also criticized Trump's decision to bomb the Syrian base. My personal favorite is Paul Joseph Watson, editor of Infowars.com who stated he was "off the Trump train" over this issue, then after being attacked by Trump supporters stated he was never off the Trump train and that such claims constituted fake news, thus impugning himself further in the process

And don't forget that only a few days before the attack Donald Trump Jr. suggested that Cernovich get a Pulitzer for breaking the Susan Rice "story"...It is really a bizarre confluence that draws in various forms of Left and Right with the nerve gas attack being blamed on everyone from ISIS to McCain to Putin (of course)...being put forth by Scott Adams to Moon of Alabama...
The Alt-Right seems to complain about "post-modern liberals" but they have perfectly fallen into the trap of post-truth fake news totally subjective reality tunnels and the ensuing chaotic world that, naturally, results... :yay

Much as I can't stand the snowflake feminist hipster Antifa shit, witnessing the total meltdown of the neo nazi "MUH TRUMP GOD EMPEROR" dipships melt into total goo is kind of amazing.
Seriously tho, even as a long time dyed in the wool anti war leftist, seeing the majority of pro Trump white nationalist alt right people go into melt-down mode post Syrian missile strikes is hilarious. At what point did these "alt right" dipshits realize they hated war as much as the very "cuck left" they hate, while realizing real politik is way above their pay grade. In other words, Hillary, Bernie or Donny J....it didnt fucking matter....the tomahawks were going to fall where they were

It's incredible how fast things are moving...I had never peered much into Kekland but the mentality behind calling people snowflake and cuckhold is just so pathetic that it is no surprise that guys like Spencer and Cernovich come across like such, well, snowflakes...schadenfreude is a fucked up drug...

The coded language of the alt-right is helping to power its rise

Image
When he called out Internet provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos, above, some on the alt-right labeled the author an “SJW” (social justice warrior) and a “public predator.”

By Steven Petrow

I’ve always said that I appreciate all my readers, both those who agree with me and those who don’t. But lately I’ve been puzzled by the new slurs directed at me by some of the latter. Many I didn’t even understand, so I did some digging.

Apparently, tried-and-true insults such as “fag,” “fairy,” “kike” and “hebe” (yes, I’m Jewish) are old-school, especially among the alt-right. That small, far-right movement that seeks a whites-only state is developing new coded language, much as the Nazis once did, says noted linguist George Lakoff, a professor emeritus at the University of California at Berkeley.

For instance, in February I wrote about Milo Yiannopoulos, the now-disgraced Breitbart News editor and alt-right poster boy. I heard from many readers about that column, which took Yiannopoulos to task for his incendiary language. But one email caught my eye: “Milo is far less bigoted, misogynist, and hateful than those of you sick sociopathic and psychotic SJW’s who smear him so desperately.” Sick, sociopathic and psychotic, I knew. But SJW? I had no clue. In a personal ad it might mean “straight Jewish woman,” but two of those don’t apply to me. So what was this snarky new gem of an insult?

I emailed back, “What is an SJW?” The reply: “An SJW is a social justice warrior. In the press, this particular public predator tends to be big on PC [political correctness] virtue signaling but happy to smear others viciously with false accusations of sexism, racism, white nationalism, hate speech, etc.”

Well, that was certainly clear — I’m a “public predator” allegedly guilty of smearing Yiannopoulos by referring to his very own, widely reported hateful language.

I started looking into other slurs readers hurled at me. There was “libtard,” and one I really liked at first — “snowflake,” because they’re magical, in moderation.

But here’s the nasty undercurrent: These new words are intrinsic to the alt-right’s rise, according to Lakoff. He connects this to the Nazis and the coded language (prime example: “the master race”) that eventually allowed them to topple governmental institutions. “The strategy is to control discourse,” Lakoff points out. “One way you do that is preemptive name calling . . . based on a moral hierarchy.”

I asked what he meant by a moral hierarchy. “God above man, man above nature, men above women. The strong above the weak. Christians above gays,” he said, continuing with even more examples. Lakoff emphasized that this is different from the Democrats’ labeling some conservatives racist, sexist or homophobic — which they do — if only because that usage is not as “canny” or strategic.

Take Donald Trump’s repeated characterization of Hillary Clinton as “Crooked Hillary,” Lakoff said. Say it often enough in public, and people start to believe it, and before you know it people such as Clinton are discredited. “The whole idea is not to be civil,” Lakoff says. “The idea is to win.”

With that in mind, here’s a short primer on some of the alt-right coded language making the rounds:

● Snowflake. This is no compliment, even if you like to think that you’re one of a kind. At best, it’s a derisive term for someone considered entitled, which to those using it includes people of color, LGBT folks, students — even Meryl Streep for her pro-kindness stance at the Golden Globes. Sarah McBride of the Human Rights Campaign told me that it’s often used against LGBT people in reference “to pronoun usage, particularly nonbinary pronoun use, and the efforts on college campuses to be more aware and affirming of people’s pronouns.” Used in a sentence, via Urban Dictionary: “Hey snowflake, Trump won, deal with it.” With one word you’re dismissed as weak, feminine, juvenile — a loser.

● Libtard. “Lib” is for “liberal,” while “tard” is shorthand for “retard.” Bingo! If you’re two thumbs down on political correctness, then what better insult than this combination? It even allows a bonus zing at folks with special needs.

● Cuck. I heard this one while watching Bill Maher’s HBO show several weeks ago. One of his guests kept using it. It’s short for “cuckservative,” which is a word cocktail made up of equal parts “conservative” and “cuckold.” Urban Dictionary defines it as “a racial slur for a White person that is not loyal to White Supremacy” and offers this sample of use in a sentence: “Jeb is such a cuck.”

● Masculinist. I’m an out and proud feminist, but I’d never heard of “masculinist.” According to Merriam-Webster, it’s “an advocate of male superiority or dominance” and is often used to promote traditional gender roles. The Oxford Dictionaries use it this way, in reference to the 1990s: “The newly unified German parliament replicated the same masculinist pattern, celebrating its debut with less than 10 percent women representatives.” That’s the same as in pre-World War II Germany — and there’s that Nazi thing again.

Bottom line: It pays to increase your word power these days. There’s much more to alt-right coded language than meets the eye – or the ear. “Steven Petrow is a Social Justice Warrior, a public predator, a devotee of political correctness, and happy to tar and feather others with false accusations.” If they say it often enough, you might believe it, and then you might not believe anything I write or say. That’s their whole point.

Not my idea of a good time but somebody's gotta do it:

At the White House, Alt-Right Activists Plead with Trump to Give Peace a Chance

Image

When President Trump authorized the use of military force against Syria — firing nearly 60 tomahawk missiles at one of Assad’s airbases — his white nationalist fans cried foul, rallying around the hashtag #NoMoreJewishWars to express their disapproval. Mike Peinovich, founder of The Right Stuff, angrily accused the President of being a “Jew puppet” and declared that he would no longer defend him.

After all, white nationalists were enthusiastic about Trump in part because of his vow to put America “first,” and stay out of the disastrous foreign wars and bombing campaigns that marked the Bush and Obama years. Trump’s hardline stance on immigration and quasi-isolationist take on foreign policy was what made him so attractive to white nationalists, Klansmen, Neo-Nazis, conspiracy theorists, and other figures on the political fringes.

Viewing Trump’s actions as a betrayal of his campaign promises, a cadre of alt-right demonstrators gathered in Washington, D.C. on Saturday to protest further acts of military aggression. Led by National Policy Institute president Richard Spencer, several well-dressed Nazis attended the protest, carrying placards with slogans like “NO MORE WARS 4 ISRAEL” and “WE WANT WALLS NOT WARS.” Most of them looked like roofie-packing frat bros and sported high-and-tight “fashy” haircuts.

Image

Spencer, megaphone in hand and flanked by his body guard, declared, “We come here with a message for Donald Trump! We come here with a message to the world! Donald Trump, there are people out there who opposed you every step of the way! They wanted Hillary as president over you, and yet now you are doing their bidding! You are about to engage in their insane, stupid wars! You are about to destroy your presidency over what?”

“This presidency was already destroyed!” shouted Daryle Lamont Jenkins, one of several anti-fascist counterprotesters in attendance. As head of the anti-racist One Peoples Project the 48-year-old Jenkins specializes in naming and shaming white racists and anti-Semites, but seemed content to just heckle Spencer and his crew.

Mike Peinovich stood to Spencer’s left, dressed in a flannel shirt and zip up vest. In his hands was a sign depicting an enlarged screen shot of one of Trump’s tweets condemning Obama’s intervention in Syria. “Wait, wait, wait, you wanted the bombing six months earlier, is that right?” Peinovich asked Jenkins. “I did not want any bombing,” Jenkins shot back. “I thought that Obama was wrong too!”

Peinovich replied that he could “agree with [Jenkins] there,” and attempted to goad Jenkins into conceding that they were, in this instance, on the same side. The anti-racist activist wasn’t having it. “No, because you’re fascists. We don’t stand on your side!” he shot back. Spencer mumbled something to Peinovich about refraining from further arguments with Jenkins. “Yeah, screw this guy…,” Peinovich muttered.

The “New Right,” Brought To You By Former Allies Of The “Alt-Right”

Online personality Mike Cernovich fabricated the existence of a “new right” movement to downplay his active relationships with “alt-right” media personalities and white nationalist thought leaders. But like the nonsense diet supplements and self-help books that Cernovich hawks to his audience, the “new right” should be treated for what it is: a load of marketing bullshit.

The truth is that although Cernovich and his media pals will claim they don’t advocate white nationalism in the same way that “alt-right” leaders like Richard Spencer do, the so-called “new right” has actively parroted the “alt-right” to build its brands. It is a mistake to give the “new right” a chance to disown the relationships that helped it blossom.

Cernovich coined the term “new right” last year after he banned “alt-right” media personality Tim Treadstone, known online as Baked Alaska, from attending an inauguration party Treadstone had assisted Cernovich in planning called “The Deploraball.” Treadstone had published several tweets about the “Jewish Question” -- an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory that suggests Jewish people scheme to dominate global media and governments. Cernovich replaced Treadstone with equally terrible “alt-right” personality Milo Yiannopoulos, who had been banned from Twitter for inciting a racially motivated harassment campaign and was later disinvited from the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) after a video surfaced in which he appears to condone pedophilia. The drama fractured the “alt-right” media landscape into factions, with some hoping to rebrand and distance themselves from the openly white nationalist fan base they had used to inspire their brands...

But Cernovich and his new-media allies openly pandered to a growing pro-Trump “alt-right” media audience during the 2016 election by publishing media meant to promote fear of Muslims and pieces that attacked “social justice warriors” and others who speak out against the sexist, misogynistic, and racist rhetoric Cernovich and other “alt-right” personalities spew. Cernovich also once announced that his next project would be “part alt-right, part fitness, part anti-cuck,” and he has praised the “alt-right” movement as “sophisticated, suspicious, and combative” and declared it “woke.” The ignorance defense the “new right” is using is soiled by these figures’ year-long track record of employing such rhetoric to bolster one another's public profiles.

Cernovich and his new-media allies are snake oil salesmen who adopt whatever controversial punditry will earn them publicity and let them promote their bogus products. For example, Cernovich uses his platform to sell copies of his self-help book for men and promote his in-development “experimental nootropic” pills that he claimed will regrow neurons inside the brain and build a “supercharged mind” that most people can’t handle.

The “new right” is nothing more than a shallow attempt to legitimize commentary that draws upon the “alt-right” philosophy, which has been used to promote conspiracy theories like the “Pizzagate” claim that top Democratic officials were complicit in a Washington, D.C., child sex-trafficking ring run out of a pizza restaurant. Media should not grant Cernovich and his colleagues a free pass to abandon the “alt-right” talking points that they used to force themselves into media relevancy in the first place.

Against the Fascist Creep:
Reading by Alexander Reid Ross

https://youtu.be/Zo1mYIJjDKI

Author and organizer Alexander Reid Ross will discuss his new book on the rise of the alt-right and white nationalism that has come to underlie US national politics and what communities can do to resist. It traces today’s often-disguised forms of rightwing extremism through the decades and across the globe to show how infiltration is a conscious and clandestine program for neo-fascist groups that seek to co-opt and undermine both the mainstream and the new social movements of the left.
