Seems as though @realDonaldTrump has asked Barr to un-recuse himself from future Epstein case proceedings. That’s obstruction of justice if Trump is a target. And WHY would Trump care if his AG were or were not recused from this particular case? (Oh, I know!)

A DOJ official says that Barr has consulted with career ethics officials at DOJ and he will not recuse from the Jeffrey Epstein case in SDNY, @evanperez reports.

Barr has been & will remain recused from any retrospective review of the resolution of the earlier case in Florida.

So Barr recused himself from the Epstein case. Wouldn’t it be something if Trump had some criminal exposure as a result of the Epstein investigation such that he would start venting about how his AG recused rather than protecting him? Sound familiar?

Side note only, but it's interesting how an Epstein prosecution stands to nudge a new political era/realpolitik. Trump as corrupt mob clown is a given, but with the Clintons (finally, appropriately) tainted, Biden and the old guard suffer alongside them. Interesting that Kamala Harris's vulnerable record as former DA, now maybe aligns with the idea of the prosecutor as moral leader. Just thinking aloud and maybe overreaching but very curious how the current events affect/effect what comes next.

May you please be correct.

Seems so, if the fist page of the indictment is accurate:

With the Epstein story exploding, it seems on social media like the pro Trump crowd wants to only focus on Clinton and the Democrats, the anti Trump side only wants to focus on Trump, Acosta and Dershowitz.
If Epstein knows his life is over, not just the jetsetting billionare life but his literal life is over, he know it's going to either be spill every single name or suicide. Either way it's going to be suicide. I mean the DC Madam was found dead days after saying her life was in danger, and that was merely over adult prostitute women married politicians were hooking up with. The most powerful people in the world being linked to kids? Good lord. It'll be a miracle if there's no mysterious suicides/accidents/killings or Gary Caradori type stuff that happens.

You know it's interesting, it was the more right leaning conspiracy people who were the loudest on the radio, internet, etc when it came to pushing the idea of a global cabal of pedo elites. Yet now that most of them have decided to hitch their collective wagons to Trump and the Republican party, they're pretty much screwed in the mental gymnastics they're playing. It used to be most the right wing conspiracy researches , radio hosts, etc hated Bush and the Republicans just as much as Clinton and the Democrats and always said both Republican and Dem politicians were deeply involved in this stuff. My how times have changed. A lot of these were the pro Ron Paul Libertarians. Youd think all sides would want a hard reset with politics in America. The people on tv or on social media who are hoping only Democrat or hoping only Republican officials get swept up with this Epstein case are the biggest hypocrites. I also feel bad for women and men who have been through the real life horrors of stuff like this sort of abuse being triggered by all this, but I think now is the time for all this is all finally coming to light

You can see it on cable news, you can tell in their voice and mannerisms they don't even know how they're going to cover what is going to (potentially) be a story that will rip apart everything, especially as the 2020 election cycle is about to go into overdrive. It was clear JFK and 9/11 were never going to be properly exposed, but this "vast network" sure seems like it might be getting exposed and I dont think a lot of people are ready

Good to see you again, 8bit. I didn't follow the Franklin story, so I hadn't known about Caradori or the circumstances of his death. I remembered from the time being appalled from news of Boystown about abuse that took place there, but shied away from such stories because they were so horrible to read. I cannot imagine the helplessness of their victims or the horrors they experienced, them being so alone.

But that was before I became familiar with stories from people who had been abused while reading RI and have learned much more here than I could have ever imagined about surviving such abuses. Thank you for putting Caradoni's name out there, which I then researched more.

Part of what the Tea Party did was to all but dissolve the Libertarian Party by absorbing their votes as Republican, creating a larger bloc while disarming the more threatening vote-draining third party from presenting viable opposition to any Republican Party candidate. They've unified the Right.

"I also feel bad for women and men who have been through the real life horrors of tortures like this sort of abuse being triggered by all this, but I think now is the time for all this is all finally coming to light"
Yes, indeed. Let's hope this will all blow wide open, internationally, though considering how close they've gotten before, Jim will fix it, or whatever his name is this time, will certainly do his best to quash it from being so. Let's hope this time Jim goes down, too.

Also, ....
Maurene Comey, daughter of fired FBI Director James Comey, is reportedly one of the prosecutors in the Jeffrey Epstein case. They’ll be nothing here, it will be handled of course.

Steve Bannon Jeffrey Epstein’s

This image reminded me that last year… on a non-descript weekday morning…at around 6AM… a black SUV w/VA plates pulled up outside Epstein’s townhouse. A man got out, collected a big folder of papers from the back, rang the bell & went inside.
It was Steve Bannon. https://t.co/vxmfF0xx0b

the info SDNY has and charged Epstein with (2003 - 2005) is 2 years older that the charge/conviction in Florida (2007)

since Barr is now un recused he will know everything SDNY has and be able to keep trump up to date

trump feels bad for Acosta ...a lot of people involved in the Epstein plea deal he says

Here's why prosecutors argued against bail for Epstein, including that agents who searched his home on Saturday found "the massage room was still set up in the same way it was 15 years ago, with a massage table and sex paraphernalia."

The Jeffrey Epstein Case Is Like Nothing I’ve Seen Before

Great wealth insulates people from consequences, but not always, absolutely, or forever.

Ken White
6:30 AM ET
Attorney and former federal prosecutor

Image
Federal prosecutors announced sex-trafficking charges against the wealthy financier Jeffrey Epstein.Associated Press / Richard Drew

Jeffrey Epstein is accustomed to having an entourage meet his private jet at the airport; he’s just not used to it being made up of FBI agents. Last Saturday, the billionaire and registered sex offender returned from a trip to Paris only to be arrested. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, famously aggressive in pursuing high-profile prosecutions, charged Epstein last week with child sex trafficking in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1591. These new charges represent the Department of Justice’s attempt to redeem a reputation soiled by the extremely questionable plea deal it gave Epstein in 2008.

In 2006 and 2007, Epstein—once a reliable companion of the well connected—faced extensive, detailed allegations that he paid multiple minors for sexual contact and for their services in procuring other minors. Most people, hammered with that kind of evidence, would spend the rest of their lives in prison. But Epstein could afford the lavish attention of a defense team staffed by legal luminaries such as Alan Dershowitz and Kenneth Starr. Most of us hope an attorney will defend us competently at trial, but the superrich can afford to go on the offense. Epstein’s lawyers hounded the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, which was considering federal charges, based on reports that Epstein had procured underage girls across state lines. Former U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta—now President Donald Trump’s secretary of labor—characterized the tactic as a “year-long assault on the prosecution and prosecutors,” and complained that Epstein’s team investigated prosecutors and their families, “looking for personal peccadilloes that may provide a basis for disqualification.”

The strategy worked. Epstein’s team secured the deal of the millennium, one utterly unlike anything else I’ve seen in 25 years of practicing federal criminal law. Epstein agreed to plead guilty to state charges, register as a sex offender, and spend 13 months in county jail, during which time he was allowed to spend 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, out of the jail on “work release.” In exchange, the Southern District of Florida abandoned its criminal investigation of Epstein’s conduct, agreed not to prosecute him federally, and—incredibly—agreed not to prosecute anyone else who helped him procure underage girls for sex. This is not normal; it is astounding.

Why did the Department of Justice cut such a deal? Acosta claimed that the U.S. Attorney’s Office worried it would have trouble proving federal charges against Epstein. With all respect to Acosta—who, in full disclosure, was a law-school classmate—that explanation is not credible. Federal prosecutors are famously reluctant to bring hard-to-prove cases, unlike district attorneys, who are generally eager to roll the dice. But no federal prosecutor would hesitate to pursue allegations of pervasive, organized child-sex abuse, backed by firsthand witnesses. It is more plausible that Epstein successfully wielded his nearly incomprehensible money and power to influence the decision at the highest levels. The personal attacks on the prosecution likely helped too: Federal prosecutors aren’t used to being on the defensive. I once prosecuted a defendant with the resources to hire a famed Kennedy-assassination conspiracy theorist to spin elaborate tales about me; it was unsettling and made the case extremely difficult.

The Southern District of New York has charged headlong into this morass with an indictment charging Epstein with trafficking in minors as young as 14 for sex, and for conspiracy to engage in such trafficking. The indictment describes conduct in New York and Florida in 2002 through 2005—the same period covered by the earlier state and federal investigation. Epstein’s attorney Reid Weingarten characterized this as “ancient conduct,” but in 2006, Congress passed a law eliminating the statute of limitations for child sex-trafficking cases. Under applicable Supreme Court precedent, since the old five-year statute of limitations on Epstein’s alleged conduct had not yet run out, the new law applies to him and makes his conduct in 2002 through 2005 fair game.

Nor is Epstein’s miraculous 2008 non-prosecution agreement likely to spare him. Every federal plea agreement I’ve ever seen includes a clause saying that it binds only the U.S. Attorney’s Office signing it, not any other office. Epstein’s non-prosecution agreement conspicuously, and very oddly, lacks that clause—which further demonstrates the suspicious nature of the deal. But as the federal defense attorney Mark Bennett points out, the agreement promises only that no prosecution would be instituted “in this District”—that is, the Southern District of Florida. That detail, combined with federal law governing such agreements, likely means that no court will stop the Southern District of New York from prosecuting Epstein, especially given allegations that his sexual abuse of minors took place in New York as well as in Florida.

The feds, as is their habit, raided Epstein’s New York home while he was being arrested. In their motion asking the court to detain Epstein without bail, the government claimed that it had seized hundreds of photos of nude women or girls, some of whom appeared underage, kept on CDs thoughtfully labeled with things like “Girl pics nude.” The clonking sound you heard was 10,000 criminal-defense attorneys banging their heads on their desks. Such materials are not just potentially devastating evidence in Epstein’s prosecution. If Epstein had pornographic images of minors, he can expect the feds to add child-pornography charges to the indictment—and those charges are much easier to prove, without the challenges of a 15-year-old case.

Great wealth insulates people from consequences, but not always, absolutely, or forever. And even the richest people in America lack the implacable, mindless power of the criminal-justice system. Now that Epstein’s past plea deal is public and radioactively controversial, he’s unlikely to get another one. Epstein will have the best criminal defense money can buy, again. But this time, that will probably not be enough to save him.

It is customary, when faced with the grotesque inequalities of the criminal-justice system, to decry the preferential treatment that people such as Jeffrey Epstein enjoy. Rather than complain that Epstein got too much justice, it would be far more productive to complain that most people get too little. Adequately funded criminal defense, bail reform, and other commonsense changes would do far more to improve the system than the prosecution of an occasional billionaire.

No, no. All these corrupt poseurs are.gonna fall. The whole rotten edifice is coming down, (as all astrologers worth their salt are predicting).

Maybe not right away, but in a series of contractions, each one increasing in world-shatteringness, humanity will break free of the heavy yoke of the sociopathic secret-society sickos, and as a bonus, put the patriarchy to rest.

First contraction— #MeToo.. Powerful men fell like dominoes—but unfortunately, the lightweight Hollywood actresses who set it in motion couldn’t maintain the pressure.

Second contraction— Epstein.. Let’s see where it takes us. Seeing the possibility of some real justice breaking through has already colored my world with joy. :yay

Third contraction—this one will involve war and militarism. I can’t wait.

Prosecutor as moral leader is a common trope, yet I'm sure she's hesitant about trying to wear it. There are contradictions. Prosecutor as bloodthirsty inquisitor who jails the poor is a trope on the rise. (In the Epstein case, we have an old cult classic: prosecutor in bed with trafficking kingpins.)

Just one hour of mainstream news research tonight in the past 24 news cycle to me shows Epstein is literally the rosetta stone at the beating hard of the global/financial/powerful/hollywood elite, for which it is hard to explain

Already starting to see some on the cable news circuit and publishing paving a full on limited hangout, nothing to see here. Lot's of "Well Epstein knew some powerful people, but ahh! Those powerful people won't get him out of trouble this time! tsk tsk" and the Acosta thing the Democrat controlled house is pushing. It's why you're not seeing Democrat or Republican politicians push too hard on Epstein's elite connections as they know it's going to lead right to their sacred cows. Pelosi, Schumer and parts of the media probably want to limit damage control to "ok Epsteins a pedo, lock him up and Acosta should step down".
Let's see if the media gives 1/20th the investigative and air time to this Epstein saga as they have with Mueller/Russiagate

James Patterson, writer of a book about Epstein's crimes is all over cable news tonight saying oh no no, neither Clinton nor Trump knew of any of Epstein's criminal behavior. In fact! Trump kicked Epstein out of Mar a Largo! This "Trump actually stood up to and outed Epstein as a pedo" narrative the right/far right is pushing on social media is curious, as is the people trying to connect Epstein to Russiagate and only to Trump while ignoring Clinton's connection.

England's Prince Andrew, son of the Queen, was a regular client in Epstein's pedo rape cabal(And I'd add, it seems England's second most elite pedo under Jimmy Saville
https://www.thecut.com/2019/07/jeffrey- ... amily.html

IS THERE ANY INNOCENT EXPLANATION of the then president of the United States flying on "the Lolita" express to Epstein's private island where many of the victims allege the abuse took place? Bill Clinton was out of office what, half a year? Epstein's two islands are in the Virgin Islands which the United States feds obviously has jurisdiction over. If there's any blackmail tapes and evidence Epstein held over powerful/famous clients I doubt it would have been housed at his New York residence and most likely secured offshore

Trump and Epstein threw a private party with them and 28 girls at Mar-A-Lago in 1992:

https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-e ... men-2019-7

Bill Clinton claims he only flew on Epstein's "Lolita Express" 4 times and never visited his private island, flight logs show he flew 26 times and visited the private island at least once. And several of the flights showed he asked secret service not to come with him.

Kevin Spacey traveled with Epstein and Bill Clinton on his private plane

Attorney General Barr's father brought in Epstein to teach 73-75 at the prestigious Dalton School, despite Epstein being a college dropout.

Epstein was friends with Saudi Crown Prince and Leader MBS as well as Woody Allen
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/09/nyre ... stein.html

HOW THE HELL did Epstein end up owning the biggest and most expensive mansion in New York City? 77 MILLION dollars, possibly est now at 100 million. OH right, the guy behind Victoria Secret gave it to him
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... rd-in-sale

Victoria Secret and Abercrombie Fitch head Wexner, who gave Epstein his mansion and millions, accused of engaging in abuse with Epstein
https://forward.com/fast-forward/427201 ... l-assault/

The other big yarn is how the heck did Epstein get all his money and become so powerful, since it seems the hedgefund manager this was a lie and cover.
https://www.salon.com/2019/07/09/i-was- ... at-i-know/
When we met in 1986, Epstein’s double identity intrigued me — he said he didn’t just manage money for clients with mega-fortunes, he was also a high-level bounty hunter. Sometimes, he told me, he worked for governments to recover money looted by African dictators. Other times those dictators hired him to help them hide their stolen money.

Sounds like a Manafort type position, if he was even telling the truth. Oh and what a shocker current Trump Sec of Commerce Wilbur Ross was a close associate of Epstein

Investigative journalist Vickie Ward wrote a piece exposing Epstein as a pedo in 2002 after interviewing two victims, til her story was nixed by the editor of Vanity Fair. She alleges that Jeffrey Epstein threatened to kill her unborn twin sons whom she'd deliver a few months later, and wanted to know what hospital she was giving birth at. I would not be surprised if there's some suspicious deaths and missing people surrounding Epstein, besides all the missing girls caught up in this.

What bums me out is that Epstein is Jewish, and so many people like the lawyers/politicians/business people are Jewish including former Israel PM Ehud Barak as well as Soros nephew so you know the far right/alt right/racist fucks are really going to push the hell out of that narrative while editing out the waspy old money/european/trump connections. The far right that's obsessed with this idea of a "Hollywood liberal Jewish pedo cabal" are going to have plenty of ammo, especially with reports that months after his 2008 sweet heart deal, some of the biggest names in Hollywood and the media attended a Yom Kippur buffet party at his New York mansion. https://www.salon.com/2019/07/09/i-was- ... at-i-know/

Netanyahu, pm of Israel, recently tweeted a not so subtle tweet about his political rival Ehud Barak and Epstein's connection
https://www.timesofisrael.com/epstein-c ... ade-barbs/

Oh and for the 1970s and mid 2000s conspiracy wonks, yes Epstein was a member of both the Trilateral Commission and CFR
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics ... b42c4daf95

Same article mentions he somehow had contacts for the Rockefellers, Rothschilds, Bloomberg, Rupert Murdoch, Soros, high level Saudi royals and gee, Michael Jackson. Is this some simulated reality where Epstein is the created collective conscious invention of a fever dreamed pulp writer? https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics ... b42c4daf95
“Celebrities, politicians and Hollywood producers hang out with Epstein for one reason . . . he’s got all the toys,” said Conchita Sarnoff, executive director of the Alliance to Rescue Victims of Trafficking and author of a book on the Epstein case, “TrafficKing.” “He has all the trappings — the yachts, the helicopter, the private island, the private jet.”

Like 9/11 pointing to Saudi Arabia, the United States govt, Pakistan, Israel, German and UK Intelligence, global money institutions, etc. this Epstein case seems to have tentacles that spread everywhere...and those with an agenda bias to cover for one base and attack a specific group("Democtats", "Republicans", "Hollywood", "Trump Associates") will blindly only focus on what they want to see.

Seriously folks, this is reaching levels of the late researchers Danny Casolaro and Mark Lombardi(the art world darling who made an art piece a year before 9/11 exposing the 9/11 culprits before his mysterious death)

Bill Clinton's lying in this is instance is epic even on the scale of Clinton lying.

I mean, there are FLIGHT LOGS. And he says he only flew, what four times when the logs say over 20. These people are stuck in a broken paradigm, I guess despite many of us's dogged pessimism, this kind of shit, as they say, simply will not fly anymore.

And Dershowitz seems to be utterly divorced from reality with his blustering. His hysterical defense of Trump might indicate that someone has something pretty gross about him and is already holding it over him.

July 10, 2019, 6:51 AM CDT
Jennifer Araoz says she was 14 years old when a young woman approached her outside her New York City high school in the fall of 2001.

The woman was friendly and curious, asking Araoz personal questions about her family, her upbringing, their finances. Soon she began talking to Araoz about a man she knew who was kind and wealthy and lived nearby.

His name, the woman said, was Jeffrey Epstein.

The first few times Araoz went to Epstein's Manhattan townhouse, all they did was talk, Araoz said, and the friendly woman came along. Araoz told him about her dream of becoming a Broadway actress and about her late father, who had died of AIDS when she was 12.

But on Araoz's first visit without the other woman, Epstein gave her a tour of his mansion that culminated in a visit to what he described as his "favorite room in the house," Araoz said. A massage table sat on the floor. A painting of a nude young woman hung from the wall.

Araoz would return to that room regularly over the next year, she said, manipulated into stripping down to her panties and giving Epstein massages that ended with him pleasuring himself to completion and her leaving with $300.

In the fall of 2002, Epstein pressured her to do more, Araoz said. He told her to remove her panties. Then he grabbed her 15-year-old body.

"He raped me, forcefully raped me," Araoz told NBC News in an exclusive interview. "He knew exactly what he was doing."

"I was terrified, and I was telling him to stop. 'Please stop,'" added Araoz, now 32.

Epstein, Araoz said, ignored her pleas. She never returned to his home after that day and her life spiraled downward over the next several years as a result of the trauma, she said.

Epstein, 66, was charged Monday with operating a sex trafficking ring in New York and Florida between 2002 and 2005. Federal prosecutors in New York say the wealthy financier, who has socialized with the likes of Donald Trump, Bill Clinton and Britain's Prince Andrew, sexually abused dozens of minors and paid his victims to recruit others, allowing him to build a vast network of girls to exploit. He entered a plea of not guilty.

Araoz's account adds a new dimension to the allegations against Epstein: a young girl being recruited outside a New York City school to perform sexual favors for him.

The federal indictment unsealed this week refers to three unidentified victims but none of them is Araoz. She never contacted the authorities to tell her story, but she says she did tell at least four people — her mother, her old boyfriend and two close friends — about the Epstein encounters several years after they occurred.

Reached by NBC News, all four confirmed that she told them years ago that she had been sexually assaulted by Epstein.

"She said that she was raped by Epstein and before the rape she had been giving him massages for a year," said a friend of 16 years. "There's no doubt in my mind knowing her character, the type of person she is, that what she says happened is exactly what happened."

Epstein's lawyers did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

This isn’t the first time that Epstein has been accused of preying on young girls.

He signed a controversial non-prosecution deal in 2007 that allowed him to dodge a federal indictment alleging he abused several underage girls.

Epstein, who ultimately pleaded guilty to state charges of soliciting minors for prostitution, has maintained that his encounters with the alleged victims were consensual and that he believed they were 18 when they took place.

Recruited at school

From the start, Araoz loved her high school. The Talent Unlimited High School was a small, specialized school for the performing arts located on E. 68th St. on Manhattan's Upper East Side.

It seemed a perfect fit for Araoz, who longed for a career in theater. She grew up in Queens in a household that had little money. The death of her father, when she was in middle school, took an especially heavy toll.

"I was a little bitter," Araoz said. "I felt a little cheated in life."

It was early in her freshman year when Araoz says a brunette woman in her 20s approached her outside school. She was easy to talk to, and Araoz spoke freely about her struggles and her dreams.

"I was kind of a lost kid and she sensed it," Araoz said.

They had chatted a few times before the young woman ever brought up the name Jeffrey Epstein. She said he believed in helping people and was already supporting her and her family, Araoz said.

"She was saying he's very powerful, he's very wealthy, he's a great guy," Araoz recalled. "He's almost like a fatherly figure to her, which had meaning for me at that time because I was maybe longing for that."

Araoz said the woman showed up outside her school multiple times and even offered to buy her a soda or lunch nearby. "She was definitely trying to get to know me," Araoz said.

Araoz eventually agreed to accompany the woman on a visit to Epstein's home. His townhouse, located less than 10 blocks from her school, was as impressive as the woman had described.

Vast ceilings, marble stairs, artwork covering the walls. "It looked like a museum," Araoz said.

There was a bank of cameras near the front entrance, with mini TV screens showing who was coming and going, she said. A secretary's office was off to the left. Up the hall to the right, there was a cavernous room filled with exotic animal trophies. Araoz recalled seeing a stuffed lion, tiger, even a giraffe – as well as the skins of other animals draped across the floor.

The 14-year-old Araoz and the woman who'd brought her to the townhouse were offered wine and cheese by a member of the staff as they waited for Epstein. When he did show up to greet the pair, he was warm and welcoming, Araoz said.

She recalls him telling her that he had heard a lot about her and felt terrible about her father's death. Epstein insinuated that Araoz was "very lucky to have met somebody like him" and "that he could really help me," she said.

Before they left, Epstein gifted the woman who'd brought Araoz to the townhouse a brand new digital camera. His secretary handed Araoz $300 in cash, she said.

She returned a handful of times with the other woman, and left each visit with $300, Araoz said. Epstein talked about donating money to AIDS charities, which struck a chord for her given her father's death, and wanting to help with her career.

He talked up his contacts in the acting business and mentioned that he owned a modeling agency. Araoz recalls him telling her that "I should be a model and all these things that young girls like to hear."

"There was nothing not to trust at that time," Araoz said. "He was giving me $300, which was a big help for me."

The joint visits continued for about a month, said Araoz. By then, she felt comfortable enough with him to go on her own.

"I thought it was maybe a little odd because I didn't know what he necessarily was getting out of it," said Araoz, who could not recall the other woman's name. "But I said, 'This is a genuinely really nice guy, (a) good man who wants to help me.'"

But the dynamic changed that first time she showed up alone, Araoz said. Instead of talking downstairs, Epstein escorted his 14-year-old visitor onto his elevator and brought her deeper into his seven-story home.

"All the rooms were very grand and had a lot of artwork, a lot of murals on the walls," Araoz said.

He showed her an oval-shaped room with blue walls and likened it to "his favorite room in the White House" — an apparent reference to the Oval Office.

She also saw a bathroom with a tub and a set of prosthetic breasts within arm's length. "It was very odd," Araoz said.

She said they ended up in a small room with a massage table and a bathroom off to the side. A large Sistine Chapel-like mural depicting angels against a blue sky hung on one wall. A painting of a nude young woman with brown hair clung to another, she said.

"When he first brought me up there, he was like, 'You know, you remind me so much of this woman in the painting,'" Araoz said.

Epstein asked her if she was good at massages, she said. She wasn't sure how to answer but she eventually agreed to strip down to her underwear and rub his bare back.

Araoz said she thought it was strange but she also didn't feel comfortable saying no to him.

"I felt almost obligated because of the money he was giving me," she said.

"I didn't know if he would get angry or if I didn't listen what the repercussions would have been," Araoz added. "So I kind of just followed. I was so young, so I didn't know better."

Like the others that followed, the massage began innocently. But it didn't stay that way, she said.

Epstein would turn over, Araoz said, and "play with himself."

"He would also like when I would play with his nipples. He used to get turned on by that. And then he would finish himself off and then that would be the end of it."

Over the next several months, Araoz's visits followed a familiar routine. Epstein's secretary would contact her by email, beeper or her family's landline to set up a meeting, Araoz said. When she arrived, she'd be escorted to the elevator and head straight to the massage room.

"It was just such a big help, the money," Araoz said. "And I said, 'I'm not really doing anything that wrong.'"

During the visits, Epstein showered her with compliments about her appearance, Araoz said, emphasizing how much he loved women with smaller breasts. He also reiterated his promises to jump-start her acting or modeling career, she said.

Araoz said that she had told the other woman that she was 14 and mentioned it in Epstein's presence.

"He knew exactly who he was hanging out with," Araoz said. "I don't think he cared."

Araoz said she performed the massages once or twice a week for the duration of her freshman year.

But one day at the beginning of her sophomore year, Epstein got violent with her, Araoz said.

While she was giving him a massage, Epstein first asked a question that Araoz took to be more of a demand.

"Why don't we try something a little bit different?" she recalls him saying. "Why don't you do the massage on top of me?"

Araoz said she told him that she wanted to "stick to the normal routine," but she ultimately removed her underwear. He fondled her privates, she said. Then he "brought me up there and it was very aggressive, it was forceful," she said.

Araoz said she was terrified and told him to stop. "He was like, 'It's okay. You're fine. You're not doing anything wrong,'" added Araoz, who said he did not use a condom.

After it was over, Araoz said, she rushed out of the house angry and shaken. Her life unraveled over the next few months. She developed crippling anxiety. She suffered panic attacks. She dropped out of school to avoid having to return to his neighborhood – and eventually gave up on her dream of becoming an actress.

But Araoz didn't tell anyone about the source of her torment – at least not initially.

"I kind of hated myself for it," Araoz said. "I was like, 'I'm stupid, I should have known better. I'm a bad kid.'"

"I basically just tried to forget about it and live my life," she said.

Araoz said Epstein and his associates tried to contact her but she never responded to the messages or spoke to him ever again.

She said it wasn't until several years later that she confided in her boyfriend at the time, and subsequently told her mother and at least two close friends.

The boyfriend, who asked to remain anonymous, told NBC News she revealed to him in 2008 that Epstein had abused her. Araoz's mother also told NBC News that her daughter told her about the abuse around the same time. The mother, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said she noticed a change in her daughter's behavior and appearance around 2002. Araoz lost weight, became withdrawn and was frequently angry, her mother said.

"I was really scared," the mother said. "She was so anxious but I couldn't figure out why. The anxiety got so bad that she couldn't function and I urged her to go to a doctor."

A close male friend told NBC News that Araoz confided in him about the abuse roughly five or six years ago. And a female friend of 16 years said Araoz was crying and blaming herself when she confided in the friend about a decade ago. "I think she had to get it off her chest," the friend said.

Araoz is now a make-up artist living not far from her childhood home in Queens. She said she's still grappling with the emotional damage of her teenage encounters with Epstein. "He took something from me that can never be repaired, never made whole," Araoz said.

The charges against Epstein were brought more than a decade after Florida prosecutors cut a controversial deal that allowed him to dodge the prospect of a lengthy federal prison sentence for allegedly preying on underage girls.

Epstein was under investigation and facing possible federal prosecution for allegedly sexually abusing several minor girls, court records show, a case that could have put him behind bars for years.

Instead, he pleaded guilty to state charges of soliciting a minor for prostitution. He served 13 months at Palm Beach county jail and was allowed to leave the facility six days a week for work. He was also required to register as a sex offender.

The new indictment has ignited fresh criticism of Alexander Acosta, who was the U.S. attorney in Miami at the time and is now Trump’s labor secretary.

Acosta, who has long defended the deal, did so again on Monday.

"With the evidence available more than a decade ago, federal prosecutors insisted that Epstein go to jail, register as a sex offender and put the world on notice that he was a sexual predator," he tweeted. "The crimes committed by Epstein are horrific, and I am pleased that NY prosecutors are moving forward with a case based on new evidence."

Epstein is facing up to 45 years in prison if convicted on the new charges of sex trafficking and conspiracy. Mimi Rocah, an NBC News legal analyst who served as a former assistant U.S. attorney in New York, said any new allegations against Epstein could lead to additional federal counts. Child sex victims must be under the age of 28 to pursue state charges in New York.

At a Monday press conference, Geoffrey Berman, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, urged any other Epstein victims to contact the FBI.

Araoz said she hopes Epstein spends the rest of his life in prison, and is willing to testify in court if called upon by federal prosecutors.

"He shouldn't be on the streets anymore, period," she said.

When asked why she didn't contact the authorities about the alleged assault, Araoz said she feared the repercussions of going public.

"I was so young that I was worried that somehow I would get in trouble," Araoz said. "I was really frightened of Epstein. He knew a lot of powerful people and I didn't know what he could do to me, and I wasn't sure that anyone could protect me."

Araoz's legal team filed papers in New York state court Wednesday seeking more information from Epstein prior to filing her civil complaint. Her lawyers contacted Epstein's attorneys this past March seeking an out-of-court settlement but the talks broke down, Araoz's lawyer said.

"He injured her grievously," said one of Araoz's lawyers, Daniel Kaiser. "She suffered a horrific event that altered the course of her life forever."

Attorney Kimberly Lerner, who is also representing Araoz, added: "Jennifer is no longer the scared 14 year old child who was victimized by Jeffrey Epstein. Today, she is the brave young woman telling her story to let all the other victims know that they are not alone."

Araoz said she's finally summoned the strength to speak out now to help prevent other young girls from falling into the clutches of predatory men.

But she still harbors guilt over not doing so earlier.

"What hurts me even more so is that if I wasn't afraid to come forward sooner then maybe he wouldn't have done it to other girls," Araoz said.

Jeffrey Epstein Borrowed ‘Tainted Money’ From Deutsche Bank, Says Former Mentor

By Davis Richardson • 07/09/19 9:46pm

The origins of Jeffrey Epstein’s financial empire remain a mystery to even billionaires. But the investor’s former Wall Street mentor has one theory about how Epstein amassed his fortune: Fraud.

In a phone interview with Observer, Steven Hoffenberg alleged Epstein participated in a Ponzi scheme the two ran together in the 1980s, before using the ill-gotten gains to launch his investment company with the help of financial loans from Deutsche Bank.

“Its a very simplistic financial fraud that he concealed from everybody that gave him tainted money,” said Hoffenberg. “He never told anybody, and I literally mean anybody, that gave him any money since he left Towers, that he was part of Towers. And that’s a securities fraud because when you take money from people, you have to tell them your history.”

Hoffenberg oversaw Towers Financial, but was sentenced to 20 years in jail in 1997 for defrauding clients out of $450 million. Although Epstein was never charged in the case, a lawsuit filed last year by former Towers investors lists the financier as “an uncharged co-conspirator,” and alleges he “knowingly and intentionally utilized funds he fraudulently diverted and obtained from this massive Ponzi scheme for his own personal use to support a lavish lifestyle.”

“If Jeffrey Epstein was materially involved in the management of Towers Financial, as his former associate Steven Hoffenberg has alleged, or he substantially assisted and had knowledge of the Ponzi scheme through various corporate transactions with Towers Financial, then he would be subject to liability for that Ponzi, and further, may have committed securities fraud on his future clients by not disclosing his prior involvement,” Jeff Sonn, a securities attorney and founder of Sonn Law Group, told Observer. “The problem I see is that Hoffenberg waited some 20 years to come forward with these new allegations, and he may have reduced his 18-year sentence by implicating Epstein in the Ponzi scheme back in 1994 but didn’t do so.”

Hoffenberg said he did not tell prosecutors because he pleaded guilty at the time, but later came forward because he believed Epstein should pay restitution to Towers investors. Hoffenberg also told Observer that Deutsche Bank provided significant financial loans to Epstein.

“His lead bank is Deutsche Bank, Germany, that runs the lead on his financial trust company. They run the platform in the trading of the currencies for Epstein and with Epstein. He’s never disclosed to the investors that provide the money to Deutsche Bank his true legacy, that’s securities fraud,” said Hoffenberg. “And that makes the government available to seize all his money, literally all his money. He’s not going to be able to use his money because it’s got to go to a restitution fund because it’s tainted money.”

Long considered an investment platform for the rich and powerful, Deutsche Bank has been plagued with scandals since the 2008 Financial Crisis. In 2017, the bank reached a $7.2 billion settlement with the U.S. Justice Department over allegedly misleading investors on mortgage-backed securities, and was later fined $630 million for alleged involvement in Russian money laundering.

Last week, Deutsche Bank announced it would cut 18,000 jobs and downsize its investment operations.

JEFFREY EPSTEIN SHIPPED HIMSELF A 53-POUND SHREDDER AND A CARPET AND TILE EXTRACTOR, MARITIME RECORDS SHOW

JEFFREY EPSTEIN SHIPPED a shredder from the U.S. Virgin Islands to his Palm Beach home in July 2008, shortly after reaching a non-prosecution agreement with then-U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta, maritime records show. Then, in March of this year, shortly after a Florida federal judge invalidated that agreement, Epstein shipped a tile and carpet extractor from the Virgin Islands to his Manhattan townhouse, the records show.

Epstein, a billionaire financier, was arrested in New Jersey last Saturday on charges of running a sex trafficking ring that involved luring underage girls to his New York and Florida residences, and taking them on global flights on his airplane, dubbed the “Lolita Express.” Epstein was first accused of abusing underage girls, some of them as young as 14, more than a decade ago, and he evaded prosecution potentially due to his high-profile connections.

A key challenge investigators faced when first targeting Epstein in the mid-2000s was an inability to obtain evidence through subpoena. A 2005 search of Epstein’s Palm Beach home came up empty in its quest for computers that investigators suspected contained critical evidence connected to his alleged sexual abuse of young girls.

In 2007, a federal grand jury subpoenaed the computers. That August, Acosta, who is now Donald Trump’s labor secretary, entered into plea agreement discussions with Epstein. Because of those talks, a motion to compel production of Epstein’s computers was delayed, according to the Miami Herald. Epstein held out, however, resisting the deal because it would require him to register as a sex offender. The FBI continued investigating and in March 2008, according to the Miami Herald, preparations were being made to take the case to a new federal grand jury.

That would prove unnecessary, as Epstein agreed to a deal with Acosta. Without notifying the 32 identified victims, the federal government reached a non-prosecution agreement with Epstein in exchange for his guilty plea in state court to a minor offense. He pleaded guilty on June 30.

On July 7, 2008, federal prosecutors told Epstein’s attorneys via email that they intended to notify the 32 victims about the agreement. Epstein’s lawyers and the prosecutors debated how much of the agreement to reveal, settling on a less than full accounting.

A week later, on July 15, Epstein received a shipment at his Palm Beach home from the port in the U.S. Virgin Islands closest to his home there, according to maritime shipping records compiled by ImportGenius and provided to The Intercept. The shipment was a 53-pound shredder.

For the next decade, Epstein’s legal troubles appeared to be behind him. Then, in November 2018, the Miami Herald published a new investigation into Epstein’s alleged child sex trafficking ring, which prompted federal investigators to take a new look at the case. However, the agreement not to prosecute first had to be invalidated. That came on February 21, when a Florida federal judge ruled that Acosta’s office had violated the Crime Victims’ Rights Act by keeping the women in the dark.

On March 11, 2019, Epstein got a new shipment from the port in the U.S. Virgin Islands. This time, it was sent to his New York townhouse, and it’s listed in maritime records as a tile and carpet extractor that weighed 191 pounds.

William George, an analyst with Import Genius who found the details of the shipments in the company’s database, noted that both shipments could, of course, be entirely unrelated to the alleged crimes and the prosecutions. Indeed, many people own shredders or tile and carpet extractors do not run child sex trafficking rings to service the global elite. Still, the timing could require an explanation from Epstein. He is currently in jail awaiting trial and unavailable for comment. His legal representatives did not respond to a request for comment.

“He Said Not to Tell Anyone”: How Trump Kept Tabs on Jeffrey Epstein

By Emily Jane Fox
July 9, 2019

In the months before he ran for president, Donald Trump was in conversation with National Enquirer owner David Pecker about his old acquaintance, Jeffrey Epstein, and how his sexual abuse scandal might affect the Clintons. “Trump said that Pecker had told him that the pictures of Clinton that Epstein had from his island were worse,” recalls a former Trump Organization employee.

Perhaps the most revealing commentary Donald Trump has offered on Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier who pleaded not guilty this week to sex trafficking and conspiracy, occurred in late February 2015, onstage at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference. Trump, then flirting with a presidential run, was fielding softballs from Fox News host Sean Hannity when a lightning round of questions turned to a favorite topic: Bill Clinton. “Nice guy, Trump said. “Got a lot of problems coming up, in my opinion, with the famous island with Jeffrey Epstein,” he added, seemingly veering off topic. “Lot of problems.”

In fact, Epstein was then very much top of mind for Trump, who had his own history with the registered sex offender. Over the previous several weeks, the National Enquirer had published a string of stories about Epstein, including a “world exclusive” interview with one of his accusers, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who said in court documents that Epstein forced her to have sex with him at his Upper East Side home. She told the tabloid that Epstein paid her to have sex with Britain’s Prince Andrew, one of an expansive retinue of high-flying elites who enjoyed Epstein’s company and took advantage of his private jet. (Buckingham Palace has denied the allegations.) Another was Clinton, who the Enquirer reported had traveled with Epstein’s assistant on his plane, and was at Epstein’s private island in the Caribbean. (Clinton denies ever traveling to Little St. James Island, but has confirmed that he traveled with Epstein several times in 2002 and 2003, including trips to Africa in connection with the Clinton Foundation. In her interview with the Enquirer, Giuffre said she had seen Clinton around, but that she never saw him involved with women.)

Trump had been following the story closely. In the week or so leading up to his CPAC speech, David Pecker, who owned the Enquirer until it was sold in ruin earlier this year, visited Trump on the 26th floor of Trump Tower, bringing along an issue with a Prince Andrew and Epstein-related cover, according to people familiar with the meeting. Pecker, of course, was in the business of protecting Trump. An early supporter of his presidential campaign, Pecker has helped “catch and kill” at least two stories involving the real estate mogul and women who claimed to have had affairs with him. (Trump has denied the affairs.)

Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen, who would later go to prison in part for his role in these hush money schemes, was in the room when Pecker sat down. Pecker, he later told me, used to send him articles and issues before they were published so that he and Trump could read them. After the meeting Trump called in Sam Nunberg, then a Trump Organization employee, who saw Pecker leaving Trump’s office. “Michael was sitting in there when I came in, and the issue of the National Enquirer with the pictures of Prince Andrew was on his desk,” Nunberg recalled. “He said not to tell anyone, but that Pecker had just been there and had brought the issue with him. Trump said that Pecker had told him that the pictures of Clinton that Epstein had from his island were worse.” (Cohen, speaking by phone from the Federal Correctional Institution in Otisville, corroborated Nunberg’s version of the events, though he declined to add any additional information about the meeting.)

During the meeting with Pecker, Trump went on about how Epstein was known for this behavior, according to a person familiar with the conversation. Trump, after all, used to be friendly with Epstein, and had at least an inkling about his sexual predilections. In a 2002 interview with New York magazine, Trump called Epstein a “terrific guy” who was “a lot of fun to be with.” He added: “It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.” (The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.)

Trump isn’t known to have gone on any trips with Epstein, which would have been out of character. “I don’t think Trump would go to someone else’s property or someone else’s island or villa,” Nunberg said. “He doesn’t even play golf at anyone else’s clubs.” But Trump did host Epstein as a guest at Mar-a-Lago, where he appears in photos in 1997 and 2000. Epstein’s personal little black book, which was leaked by an employee in 2009, contained 14 phone numbers for Trump, his wife, Melania, and several people who worked for him.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, President Trump dismissed his past appearances with Epstein, describing him as a “fixture in Palm Beach” in those years. “I had a falling out with him a long time ago,” he added, though he declined to elaborate. “I don’t think I’ve spoken to him for 15 years.”

Other individuals who had found themselves in Epstein’s orbit over the years, from Clinton to Prince Andrew, have been similarly eager to distance themselves from the scandal. (“President Clinton knows nothing about the terrible crimes Jeffrey Epstein pleaded guilty to in Florida some years ago, or those with which he has been recently charged in New York,” a spokesperson said in a statement.) In the meantime, journalists following the Epstein case are eagerly awaiting other documents that could shed light on Epstein’s powerful friends, including Trump and famed attorney Alan Dershowitz. (Giuffre, who is suing Dershowitz for defamation, claims she had sex with him as part of Epstein’s sex trafficking operation—a claim Dershowitz vehemently denies.) A federal prosecutor said in court that officials did not expect any “imminent” additional charges, but added that more are “possible down the road.”

Democrats may soon have an opportunity to question Pecker about his relationship with Trump. Later this week, the House Judiciary Committee will vote to authorize a subpoena for Pecker, among people involved in the Mueller report, as they investigate possible obstruction of justice.

Trump and Jeffrey Epstein were the only two guests at a party with 28 women flown in for the ‘entertainment’: NYT report
By Cody Fenwick, AlterNetJuly 9, 2019
A new report from the New York Times on Tuesday revealed new details about the years-long friendship between President Donald Trump and the convicted sex offender and financier Jeffrey Epstein.

The most bizarre revelation was the account of a party, told by Florida businessman George Houraney, at which Trump and Epstein were the only guests:

It was supposed to be an exclusive party at Mar-a-Lago, Donald J. Trump’s members-only club in Palm Beach, Fla. But other than the two dozen or so women flown in to provide the entertainment, the only guests were Mr. Trump and Jeffrey Epstein.

The year was 1992 and the event was a “calendar girl” competition, something that George Houraney, a Florida-based businessman who ran American Dream Enterprise, had organized at Mr. Trump’s request.

“I arranged to have some contestants fly in,” Mr. Houraney recalled in an interview on Monday. “At the very first party, I said, ‘Who’s coming tonight? I have 28 girls coming.’ It was him and Epstein.”

The report contains no allegations of misconduct at the party, but it’s a disturbing account given that Epstein has just been indicted on charges of sex trafficking young teenage girls. (Houraney and his girlfriend Jill Harth have accused Trump of sexual abuse of Harth).

Some of Trump’s public comments suggest that he was aware at the time of Epstein’s interest in having sex with underage girls. The Times report also indicates that during the 2016 campaign, Trump believed he could use Epstein’s ties to Bill Clinton to damage Hillary Clinton. It even indicates that David Pecker of The National Enquirer suggested he had damaging information about Clinton and Epstein, though it never became a major issue in the race.

On Tuesday in the Oval Office, Trump downplayed his relationship to Epstein. He said he knew him “like everybody else in Palm Beach knew him … he was a fixture in Palm Beach.” But the Times reported that they were details a much closer relationship than those remarks suggest. In fact, they were reportedly involved together in a business venture, and when it fell apart, their relationship soured.

How Jeffrey Epstein Made His Money: Four Wild Theories

Billionaire is a word that’s often thrown around when discussing Jeffrey Epstein, but unlike some of his other common modifiers — convicted sex offender, pedophile — there’s scant proof as to his financial bona fides. The bulk of Epstein’s wealth is believed to come from his money-management firm for ten-figure investors, although his only known client is Victoria’s Secret founder Les Wexner, who reportedly ditched Epstein over a decade ago.

After sex-trafficking charges were handed down on Monday, executive-suite financiers discussed how absent Epstein was from the field: “He’s supposed to run an enormous FX [foreign-exchange] trading firm,” said Enrique Diaz-Alvarez, chief risk officer at Ebury. “But I never once heard of him or his firm or anyone who worked or traded with him.” And as Forbes wrote in a 2010 blog post with a very direct title — “Sex Offender Jeffrey Epstein Is Not a Billionaire” — his money-management firm based in the U.S. Virgin Islands “generates no public records, nor has his client list ever been released.”

As we wait for more information to emerge in the investigation’s coming months, speculation is pouring out on how Epstein made his wealth. To make up for the lack of public information on his revenue stream, people are turning to unverified theories on how Epstein maintained such a sterling financial reputation in addition to his millions. But first we’ll start with the knowns.

Epstein’s mysterious career

According to a 2002 profile in New York — the one with the Trump quote — Epstein dropped out of Cooper Union and NYU’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences before finding a job teaching calculus and physics at the Dalton School in the mid-1970s. Epstein was hired at the prestigious Manhattan college-prep institution by the father of Attorney General William Barr, and his students included the son of Bear Stearns chairman Alan Greenberg. In 1976, Epstein joined Bear as a floor trader’s assistant, making partner in a mere four years. By 1981, he was out, setting up the J. Epstein & Co. money-management business the next year. New York described his business strategy in 2002:

He would take total control of the billion dollars, charge a flat fee, and assume power of attorney to do whatever he thought was necessary to advance his client’s financial cause. And he remained true to the $1 billion entry fee. According to people who know him, if you were worth $700 million and felt the need for the services of Epstein and Co., you would receive a not-so-polite no-thank-you from Epstein.

In Vicky Ward’s recent process piece on her reporting of an Epstein profile for Vanity Fair in 2003, she lays out some of her thoughts on the matter of a possible benefactor. In addition to a claim from a Ponzi schemer that Epstein was kicked out of Bear Stearns in 1981 for “getting into trouble,” Ward suggests that Wexner may have helped bankroll the financier. Ward writes: “While Epstein’s friends speculated that retailer Les Wexner was the real source of Epstein’s wealth, Wexner (who called him ‘my friend Jeffrey’) never commented on this, though he did send me an email praising Epstein’s ‘ability to see patterns in politics and financial markets.’”

No one knows how much he’s worth

According to his lawyers, around the time of his notorious plea deal in Florida in 2008, Epstein’s net worth was over nine figures. The figure was “a bone of contention with Epstein’s lawyers,” Spencer Kuvin, an attorney representing three of Epstein’s alleged victims, told the Palm Beach Post in 2008. “In the litigation itself we were never able to get him to produce verified financial information. The ‘nine figures’ came by negotiation. It kept going up and up and up. They started at zero — they wouldn’t tell us at all.”

As Bloomberg states, “Today, so little is known about Epstein’s current business or clients that the only things that can be valued with any certainty are his properties.” According to a document submitted in advance of Epstein’s bail hearing, his Manhattan townhouse is estimated to be worth around $77 million. Then there are the properties in New Mexico, Paris, the U.S. Virgin Islands, his private jet, a fleet of 15 cars, and a Palm Beach compound estimated at $12 million.

But even the real-estate holdings have an air of mystery to them. Epstein purchased, or received, the Manhattan townhouse from Wexner around 1998. But there were no property records on the mansion’s transfer until 2011, when the company Wexner used to buy the place transferred it to an Epstein-owned company for $0. Epstein signed the document for both sides.

Financial Conspiracy Theory #1: Ponzi scheme

A Ponzi scheme has been floated as a possible source of Epstein’s wealth since as early as 2009, when Business Insider noted that multiple red flags pointed to a possible Madoff-like fraud. The secrecy of his client list; the “administrative” nature of all 150 of his employees in 2002; the absolute control over investors’ money, and the $1 billion basement investment required — all signs could point to Ponzi, although there’s no concrete evidence. In the story, finance writer John Carney raised a vital question, considering Epstein’s (limited) time in jail during the 2008 financial crisis: “How could Epstein’s one-man show not fall apart while he was in jail during one of the most volatile years in history?”

In addition, one of his early employers in finance, Steve Hoffenberg, was convicted of running one of the largest pre-Madoff Ponzi schemes in U.S. history. According to journalist Vicky Ward, Hoffenberg brought on Epstein in 1981 after he left Bear Stearns. “He has a way of getting under your skin,” he told Ward. Hoffenberg paid Epstein $25,000 per month for his work as a consultant for Towers Financial, though Epstein had left well before Hoffenberg pleaded guilty in 1994 to defrauding investors to the tune of $450 million. For years, it appeared Epstein had no exposure in the Towers Financial case, until 2018, when shareholders filed a putative class action suit against him for his alleged role in the Ponzi scheme. In a separate New York state case in 2018, Hoffenberg reportedly detailed Epstein’s alleged involvement in the scam.

Theory #2: Blackmail

As the Intercept D.C. bureau chief Ryan Grim noted, a piece of evidence detailed in the SDNY’s detention memo could hold a great deal of blackmail potential:

That looks an awful lot like they found the blackmail tapes https://twitter.com/eorden/status/1148269651513794561

Here is what law-enforcement officials found in Jeffrey Epstein’s Upper East Side mansion on Saturday night when they executed a search warrant, according to SDNY’s detention memo:

And in a 2015 court filing, alleged Epstein victim Virginia Roberts Giuffre claims that U.S. authorities were in possession of footage of her having sex with members of Epstein’s elite friend group. “Based on my knowledge of Epstein and his organization, as well as discussions with the FBI, it is my belief that federal prosecutors likely possess videotapes and photographic images of me as an underage girl having sex with Epstein and some of his powerful friends,” she said. Giuffre claimed that Epstein “debriefed her” after she was forced into sexual encounters so that he could possess “intimate and potentially embarrassing information” to blackmail friends into parking their money with him.

Theory #3: Epstein “Belonged to Intelligence”

One of the more mysterious quotes of this whole conspiracy-adjacent mess comes from Alexander Acosta, the current Labor secretary, who arranged for Epstein to get off with just a wrist-slap in 2007, when he was a U.S. attorney. According to Vicky Ward, when Acosta was being interviewed for the Labor secretary job, he was asked if his involvement in the Epstein case would be a problem during his confirmation hearings.

Acosta had explained, breezily, apparently, that back in the day he’d had just one meeting on the Epstein case. He’d cut the non-prosecution deal with one of Epstein’s attorneys because he had “been told” to back off, that Epstein was above his pay grade. “I was told Epstein ‘belonged to intelligence’ and to leave it alone,” he told his interviewers …

Whether that’s the American intelligence community, the greater point-one-percent brain trust, or just a garbage excuse, the answer was good enough for the Trump administration to go forward with Acosta’s nomination.

Theory #4: Offshore Tax Schemes / Money Laundering

Because Epstein’s wealth is held offshore and is shrouded in mystery, some speculate that he may have made his money in tax schemes or money laundering. According to a well-developed, if factually void, pan-conspiracist take from finance Twitter’s Quantian, Epstein could have blackmailed his social circle into investing with him, then dumped the cash in an offshore account to avoid taxes. Or, similar to the Ponzi scheme conspiracy — and, again, without basis in fact — there is so little paperwork on the funds that the whole thing could just be a rig for money laundering.

What could the coming investigation reveal?

Because so little is known about Epstein’s wealth and his ambiguous-to-the-point-of-suspicious Financial Trust Company, pretty much any revelation would help shed light on the financial black hole. But because the Southern District of New York’s Public Corruption Unit is handling the case, the likelihood of a financial or tax-related charge is much higher than if another arm of the mother court were in charge. Gene Rossi, a trial analyst for Law & Crime, suggested that the PCU could provide more flexibility on charges, including money laundering, corruption, or tax-related crimes: “The sky’s the limit.”

Mazars and Deutsche Bank could have ended this nightmare before it started.
They could still get him out of office.
But instead, they want mass death.
Don’t forget that.
