Steve Bannon and Alexander Nix come to mind, having just read this about Cambridge Analytica. (Also see here if you haven't already.) A question is, does 'Q' have any aim beyond the promotion of its wishful thinking narrative?

I assume the CA tactics are SOP now, so I suppose 'Q' could be anybody's work. I've only looked at the actual website or whatever it is once. I got a big kick out of its brass and find it hard to believe the creator doesn't do it for kicks. It's their wet dream either way.

The chuckles are are compounded by the genuine High Seriousness of many contributors. Many own sport rifles and anxiously anticipate the first dawn sweeps and Hillary's perp walk—the signal for "open season" on libruls.

I can't say, but I don't altogether dismiss the idea that, if it turns out to be true that the Obama Dem team used the government instruments of power such as the FBI, DOJ, CIA, etc., in a partisan way to collude with foreign intelligence agencies to try and influence the 2016 election, and when that failed, to try and have him removed from office, there may well be well positioned 'patriots' who would act to see it exposed and the perps brought to justice. Such 'patriots' if they exist, would naturally have needed to act in secret from the beginning, given they believed that these powerful government instruments were in the hands of conspirators, and would only find it safe to surface if and when the conspiracy was exposed and proven through due legal process. In the mean time, the public face of patriots is DJT himself and his supporters, but are there military people also waiting in the wings in case the perps influence in the relevant government instruments remains sufficiently strong to frustrate the justice system?

When trump resorts to racism to distract from children dyin' in cages, you are easily the most vile person on the planet.

Democratic Congresswomen Urge Trump to Go Back to Russia
Andy Borowitz

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Four Democratic congresswomen issued a brief statement on Monday urging President Donald Trump to go back to Russia and improve the dire conditions of that country.

In the tersely worded statement, the four lawmakers—Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, of New York; Ilhan Omar, of Minnesota; Ayanna Pressley, of Massachusetts; and Rashida Tlaib, of Michigan—indicated that Russia was “broken and crime-infested” and required Trump’s immediate attention.

The statement went on to suggest that, once Trump had fixed the problems plaguing Russia, he could return to the United States and “show us how.”

In a tweet, Trump mocked the congresswomen, contrasting them with the “real revolutionaries” honored over the weekend on Bastille Day. “In 1789, these brave people stormed Louis XVI’s airports,” he wrote.

Very strong possibility. OTOH recent events with Epstein did seem to correspond just enough that I'm currently re-evaluating.

Also hoping Wombat will chime in. I'm always surprised and intrigued by his thoughts on stuff like this.

Let's Have This Goddamn Political Race War Already
At least now Democrats can stop fucking pretending that there is any reasoning with Republicans or anyone on the right at this point. By refusing to condemn President Donald Trump's blatantly racist statements as "racist," by continuing and expanding on Trump's attacks on four non-white Democratic congresswomen in saying that they should leave the United States, by getting outraged that racism is being called racism, the GOP has ripped its mask off in the clearest way possible and gone all in on attacks on non-whites. At this point, Donald Trump could yell, "Nigger!" on Fifth Avenue and wouldn't lose any voters. And Republicans would blame whichever black person it was directed at.

Conservatives like to decry what they say is "identity politics;" that is, making policies and running candidates to appeal to a certain racial, ethnic, religious, or other background. But the GOP's appeal to white nationalists and to the idiot hordes that comprise its base is more clearly identity politics than anything Democrats have done. 'Cause, see, Trump and those who suckle at Trump's orange manteats get their votes almost exclusively from white people. By contrast, Ilhan Omar was elected with 78% of the vote in a district that is two-thirds white. I fucking guarantee you that Republican Representative Steve Scalise didn't get shit for non-white votes. But we're supposed to pretend that Omar is dividing Americans. Fuck that.

The right has been aching for a political race war. With their explicit support of Trump's "Go back to your country," now supposedly not racist "If you're not happy here, you can leave," as well as rallying around demonizing Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashid Tlaib, Republicans have tied their 2020 strategy to this racist fuckery. The four progressives are the new welfare queen, the new Willie Horton, the new Mexican rapists. And they are folding that into the oldest fucking act in the conservative book: calling Democrats socialist or "commies," as a sweaty Lindsey Graham did. There's the campaign: commies and coloreds. They really did make it 1960 again.

Hell, yesterday, Trump went back to his political origin of saying that other countries send their criminals here to seek asylum. In a cabinet meeting, while doing the supposedly official business of the supposed United States, Trump said, "Why would Honduras or Guatemala or El Salvador, why would they keep their criminals when you can put them into the caravan, lose them in a caravan, and send them up to the United States. We take everybody because the Democrats don’t allow immigration laws that mean anything. It’s horrible. It’s horrible."

As a counterpoint, here's how a mother from Honduras described the circumstances that forced them to leave their home: "The family fled Honduras after Tania witnessed her mother get killed. Her sister-in-law also was a witness and was later kidnapped, tortured and slain to keep her from testifying. The gang MS-13 then posted a note on the family's door telling them they had 45 minutes to leave, Tania said. That's when the family left to seek asylum in the U.S." Yeah, it is horrible. Just not in the way our simpering racist prick of a president says it is. And his very approach, his very words are more anti-American than a million socialist candidates demanding that this nation take care of its people like nearly every other nation on earth.

Let me personalize this: I fucking love my neighborhood. I love the black women artists who live downstairs from me who. I love the Latino kids who ride their bikes up and down the street with rap music on old school boomboxes playing. I love the Indian family across the street who have a disabled son whose Chinese bus driver is always overjoyed to see. I love the Dominican family behind me who have parties that always end up with musicians playing amazing tunes. I love the young Puerto Rican parents who have a car with a license frame that says, "My other car is the Tardis." I love the white people who showed up to offer comfort to the Pakistani owner of the corner bodega when his father died. It ain't perfect. We've had crime and fights and everything (although that's changed since the neighborhood has become even more diverse). But I fucking love this America. I don't know who is here legally or illegally. And I don't give a shit. I just care that we all treat each other with respect. If you don't love this, too, then you don't love this country.

That's worth fighting for. That's worth pissing off the mythical "White Working Class" (which doesn't seem to contain all those working class voters who think Trump's full of shit). That's worth having the political race war the GOP has been aching to have and has been having since 1980. Let's have this throwdown the nation has needed since the civil rights era. Let's define who we are and try to finally be absolutely fucking clear about it.

Call it like many of us have been saying for years now: If you support Donald Trump, you're racist. And fuck you. Double fuck you if you think calling you "racist" is racist, you dumb motherfuckers. And triple fuck you if you think anyone who doesn't want to get face-fucked by Donald Trump hates this country and should leave. You assholes aren't leaving over the Affordable Care Act, which is the law of the land. You assholes didn't leave over same-sex marriage. You put on your asshole hats and tried to change it. Which is the exact same thing that Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, Pressley, and Tlaib are trying to do (minus the asshole hats and with smarter tweets).

Make this election explicitly about the meaning of America, Democrats. This is our chance to take the plot of this story back from Republicans, who have controlled the narrative for most of the last three generations. Do we stand with diversity as our strength or do we stand with white nationalism? Do we stand with the right to dissent or obeisance to a leader? Jesus, we already have to get over the bar of our current racism. If it turns out that most of the country wants to be more racist and more in the thrall of a fucking moron and his moronic policies and the moronic, racist party that props up his saggy orange ass, then we'll at least be able to be fucking honest about it.

And then we can decide if fighting on is worth it or if we want to leave.

(Note: This was supposed to be part 2 of something I started last week, but, well, then this shit started. It's coming.)

The Strange Convergence of QAnon, Citizen's Arrest, and a Dead Mob Boss
Attempts to right wrongs, real or imagined, can backfire horribly.
By Alex Norcia
Jul 23 2019, 10:30am

Anthony Comello wasn't there to whack a mob boss. He just wanted to detain him.

At least, that's the argument made in court documents recently filed by an attorney representing the 24-year-old construction worker, who was charged in the murder of Franceso "Frank" Cali, this March. Instead of that crime, Comello's lawyer claimed, the QAnon-believing suspect drove to Cali's house in a rarefied stretch of Staten Island with a nobler pursuit in mind: He planned to perform a "citizen's arrest" on the reputed head of a major crime family—one he thought to be part of the nebulous "Deep State" touted by conspiracy theorists.

Technically speaking, the attorney for one of the higher-profile murder suspects in recent history was planning to claim his client was not guilty by reason of mental defect, the New York Times reported. But Comello's impending trial is highlighting the precarity of our current moment, with storied institutions like the rule of law and even the government itself seeming to erode before our eyes. In disturbing cases of legitimately outrageous elite conduct—like the Jeffrey Epstein saga, in which prosecutors reached a secret deal with a sex criminal whose past acquaintances reportedly ranged from Bill Clinton to Prince Andrew and Donald Trump—the far right has found fresh material for old conspiracies.

That makes this as opportune a time as any to explore what a citizen's arrest actually is, and whether it could ever possibly be a good idea for someone—conspiracy-fueled or otherwise—to attempt one.

"The bottom line is that a citizen's arrest involves one individual detaining another until the police can arrive," said Ira P. Robbins, a law professor at American University who wrote one of the few scholarly papers on citizen's arrest in the Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy.

According to Robbins, the concept is medieval in origin. It was "a direct result," he wrote in his paper, "of the lack of an organized police force and practical modes of transportation to get to the scene of a crime expeditiously." Obviously, the act has been rendered at least partly moot in an era of blanket police surveillance and thousands of individual police departments. Citizen's arrests that make the news these days tend to be farcical, heroic, or just plain weird. Enterprising Americans recently detained an alleged carjacker in Detroit, three adults were accused of violently capturing suspected car thieves in Ohio last year, and activists in New Mexico sought to nab a police chief they believed was responsible for wanton brutality in 2014.

Perhaps some cases really do beg for intervention. But the general consensus among lawyers and legal scholars was that, even if law enforcement continues to fail entire segments of the population, citizen's arrests are not worth the risk. That's in part because the laws vary from state to state, and jurisdiction to jurisdiction, but also because the deed itself can be a disaster.

"The circumstances are potentially dangerous, and the laws (which are jurisdiction-specific) are complicated and can often subject the arrester to legal liability," Robbins said.

Steve Lehto, an attorney based in Michigan who cautioned that he was not offering legal advice, agreed, clarifying that there are often several mitigating factors involved.

"Usually, you have to be a witness to the actual offense (it happened in your presence), or the person has committed a felony—and then the citizen must have reasonable cause to believe the arrestee committed the crime," he said. "Most people don't know what a felony is (versus a misdemeanor), and the laws are also wildly different on what happens if the arrestee fights back—can the citizen use force to detain the person? What if they injure the person? What if they have the wrong person?"

In Comello's situation, his lawyer suggested, he opened fire—Cali was shot ten times—because the mafioso had refused to cooperate. Gottlieb argued that Comello, who has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and weapons charges, only took out his gun when the mob boss appeared to be going for his own weapon, in his waistband. This was not the first time Comello had attempted some form of a citizen's arrest, either: He had tried, with varying degrees of effort, to detain New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, and two California members of Congress, Adam Schiff and Maxine Waters, all Democrats.

The idea, however dubious, seems to be that Comello had no choice but to take matters into his own hands.

"If that's all true, then Comello isn't like the guys amassing a stockpile or sending pipe bombs or even planning an assassination," said Jack Bratich, an associate professor of journalism and media studies at Rutgers and a scholar of conspiracy theories. "He thought he was within the bounds of the law."

It remains to be seen whether the defense strategy actually succeeds in court. If nothing else, the convergence of absurd conspiracies online in recent years and more bona fide failures of the legal system may be giving the concept of a citizen's arrest fresh appeal to some Americans.

That doesn't mean it's a particularly good idea to actually try one.

"If people are attempting citizen's arrest of people because the police won't arrest them," Lehto said, "that should be a red flag that the underlying arrest might not fly once it's dragged into court."

Today, MAGA Coalition, Inc President Adam Gingrich announced pending litigation to be filed in a federal court to discover the identity of the author of 8chan posts written by “Q,” or “QAnon,” and pursue legal recourse on behalf of the non-profit. The case involves several posts on the 8chan board where “QAnon” anonymously promulgated a libelous attack on the MAGA Coalition, despite clear and publicly discoverable evidence to the contrary on the Federal Elections Commission (FEC.gov) website.

Sorry I triggered you, I offered my opinion wrt those relevant drops of Q concerned with the ongoing investigation by AG Barr and DOJ IG into the russiagate investigation of DJT pre and post election. Q's position on this is not different to that of many republicans in Congress, and of course DJT himself and the WH.. As to Q's talk about sealed indictments, I am not concerned, I follow the ongoing russiagate events as they unfold in real time, and keep an open mind wrt future events. I am of the opinion that there are many people in America who think that an unlawful attempt to overthrow a sitting president may result in some serious consequences, and both sides know this, this story is far from over.

First and foremost: why not blow the whistle on, say, 9/11? Or Obama's backchannels to Iran? Or China?

Spooks resenting being used for merely political gains is more plausible than actual patriots. After all, that's why a lot of Mossad disclosure happened, as a response to Netanyahu's ham-fisted meddling. (That's why "Gideon's Spies" got written, for instance...a lot of other reasons, too, but that was definitely the catalyst, in addition to the PR facelift.) After all, it seems pretty unavoidable at this point that Obama's team blatantly abused the FISA system to start all this Russiagate bullshit.

But, so fucking what? And what intelligence goals get served by a very public reckoning? What part of the game is that? It's frankly every bit as irresponsible as anything Obama (or even Bush) did. That's not their fucking job.

So, what is Q? Pretty obviously a group of hucksters and grifters in Jerome Corsi's sausage-fingered orbit. There's been a few hard forks in their blockchain, a couple schisms in the clergy, and it's all going exquisitely off the rails.

If I had to guess, I'd say absolutely none of the content of the QAnon mythos is the point.

Workshopping how to use current digital comms tech to motivate a decent-sized demographic to descend into a cargo-cult schism with reality, and learn how to keep them there?

Now that sounds like a worthy project.

Let a thousand Jonestowns bloom! Welcome to Hell.

Qanon is the conspiracy equivalent of a Nolan film: it makes stupid people feel smart. It's the Nigerian prince of conspiracy theories. It latches on to morons prone to magical thinking and results in brilliantly entertaining things like trying to make a citizen's arrest of a mob boss, or shooting up a pizza place because Hillary Clinton is running a pedophile network out of the basement. These people are profoundly stupid and/or extremely gullible and/or mentally ill, and whoever is running the show must be rolling on the floor in hysterical laughter while trying to figure out how best to monetize it (I would go with MAGACoin, pegged to gold and backed by rare earth mines in Liberia).

One implication of this decision by the FBI is that the sitting President has favorably retweeted domestic terrorists and has met with them in the White House. He's been "pallin' around with terrorists," one might even say.

FBI identifies "conspiracy-driven domestic extremists" — including people motivated by belief in QAnon and Pizzagate — as a new domestic terror threat. https://news.yahoo.com/fbi-documents-co ... 00507.html

Key QAnon figures posing with Trump in the White House. Their movement has now been designated a domestic terror threat by Trump's FBI.

Here's a thread detailing a few recent examples of the President retweeting and otherwise signal boosting accounts that the FBI now considers part of a domestic terrorist group.

Holy shit. The account the president of the United States just retweeted (@LYNNTHO06607841) posted a meme 5 days ago accusing the Clintons of "torturing and sacrificing children" and then consuming their secretions.

Mazars and Deutsche Bank could have ended this nightmare before it started.
They could still get him out of office.
But instead, they want mass death.
Don’t forget that.
