COLONIE – As county jail populations across the state fall, the Albany County Sheriff's department is creating a new program meant to help end homelessness.
Sheriff Craig Apple says the program, called the Sheriff's Homeless Improvement Project, will use an empty tier in one of the jail's building to create transitional housing and a one-stop resource for those who are struggling with homelessness, job loss, addiction or mental health issues.
