http://www.vachss.com/updates_page.htmlI was riding the Metro-North line, one of a mass of reverse commuters heading out of the city. I sat across from a scrawny, intense-looking man with short, carelessly cropped hair, indoor skin, and palsied hands. He looked me over like a junkie who's afraid of needles, his need fighting his fear.
The two of us were probably the only ones in the car not jabbering into cell phones. They weren't talking; they were broadcasting—using volume as signal strength. We were all captives.
I caught the paranoid's eye, made a "What can you do?" face. He studied me for a split second, then nodded down at the thick briefcase he had across his knees and twisted his lips a millimeter.
The fool next to me said, "Hello. Hell-o!" before pushing a button on his phone to disconnect. All over the train car, people were shouting into their phones but not getting a response.
I locked eyes with the paranoid across from me. Portable cell-phone jammers are expensive—but they're a reasonable investment for a lunatic who wants to make sure nobody watching him can report back to HQ. I would have offered the jammer a high-five, but I suspected that would start him suspecting me. So I leaned close, whispered, "You should carry a phone, too. Just in case one of these morons ever looks around and does the math."
He nodded sagely. After all, I wasn't one of Them.

When WaPo's wokeness shows itself to be not about liberation, but about enslavement... it is time to give it the last rites
On February 11, the Washington Post published a long "perspectives" article written by a PhD student at U. Penn. Much of it is meaningless, pseudo-intellectual jibberish. How did it possibly get so many column inches? Why was it published? More on that later. Here is how the article starts:
Made by History Perspective
The Ottawa trucker convoy is rooted in Canada’s settler colonial history
Canada’s dark history of public health has a long past of hiding behind ‘politeness'
And here is some of her anti-Convoy fact-light propaganda:
While the convoy’s supporters have characterized the protest as a peaceful movement, uninformed by “politics, race, religion, or any personal beliefs,” many supporters have been associated with or expressed racist, Islamophobic and white-supremacist views. When Tucker Carlson of Fox News interviewed Benjamin J. Dichter, cementing his place among the movement’s leaders, Dichter rambled and likened Canada’s western provinces to “a third-world country,” due, presumably, to immigration. In Ottawa, various reports captured maskless protesters brandishing Confederate, Nazi and “Trump 2024” flags.
Dicter, BTW, is apparently an agent with a long past. The author uses him here to equate calling Canada a 'third world country' with racism of the trucker convoy against immigrants. Now that's a stretch. Though one might easily call Canada a "banana republic" today.
She rambles on, desperately trying to sound professorial, like this:
The history of Canadian settler colonialism and public health demonstrates how both overt white-supremacist claims and seemingly more inert nationalistic claims about “unity” and “freedom” both enable and erase ongoing harm to marginalized communities. [Duh?]
But the author's paragraph that has received international attention is the following. Is it wokeness? WEF-ness? WTF-ness?
The primarily White supporters of the Freedom Convoy argue that pandemic mandates infringe upon their constitutional rights to freedom. The notion of “freedom” was historically and remains intertwined with Whiteness, as historian Tyler Stovall has argued. The belief that one’s entitlement to freedom is a key component of White supremacy. This explains why the Freedom Convoy members see themselves as entitled to freedom, no matter the public health consequences to those around them.
Someone chose a turgid grad student to float a trial balloon in the Washington Post, to see whether equating freedom with white supremacy would fly. And to see whether you could get away with equating the constitutional right to freedom with white supremacist entitlement.
The morons (like the San Francisco school board members who were recently ousted after spending months renaming schools named after George Washington etc.) who think we should destroy all historical memories of the ancient Jews, Greece, Rome, Washington and Jefferson because they were slave owners in a slave-owning society, have offered no replacements for our intellectual, moral and cultural heritage.
In fact, this puerile attempt to demean the concept of freedom and equate it with white supremacy--which, btw, has lost its original meaning with the growth of wokeness-- hints at a Washington Post editorial decision of curious provenance.
Are they testing how woke their audience is? How blind, deaf and dumb? Testing how much crazy talk they can get away with on the pages of Jeff Bezos' CIA newsletter?
