The fact that much of current discourse delineates topics pertaining to personal health, civil rights, & related discourse into "LEFT" or "RIGHT" talking points is one of the many deep failures of the last few years. This may have been practically inevitable due to so many factors and trendlines (years of conditioning, priming, shifting of sentiment incrementally, etc), but it's a damned shame ANYONE is forming opinions or decisions based on their political leanings as primary factor.
Individual agency in matters of health, civil rights, TRANSPARENCY in govt/bureaucratic decisions that IMPACT CITIZENS, ETC, should be championed by anyone/everyone regardless of politics. These should be universally agreed-upon interests.
It should not be that the "Left" is -- broadly, by many outward proclamations and/or by their deafening silence -- taking the position as depicted in the (albeit facile) image below.
But that's how it's been, generally. Even in this forum, it's been instructive to observe the SILENCE, even now, among those that were quite vocal in their general approval of covid measures back in 2020/2021 (and part of 2022) with relatively few caveats. The very few contributions from those forum members now are generally quick drive-by comments or passing snipes, but few to none are addressing and/or formally acknowledging just how egregiously wrong, unethical and counter to fundamental rights the policies/rhetoric (primarily championed by those on the "left"/"progressives" -- in name only these last few yrs, etc) were and are.
With respect to addressing the core topics of interest in this thread: There remains a refusal to acknowledge, clearly and unequivocally, the unprecedented harms committed. For a time, I speculated a subset of our fellow members were quietly, desperately hoping there could be some aspect of these vile policies that could be deemed 'justifiable'. But that ship has now almost entirely sailed over the horizon, forever out of view.
This is not an attempt to gloat. This is one last expression of the sheer disappointment felt as I observed so many (in my social circle and all over the world) buckle, keep silent, and succumb to fear/hate/censorship/fascist leanings when all we needed was a majority to say, "I prefer not to". [a nod to Bartleby the Scrivener]
The silver lining is that it appears there will be a (growing) subset that will REFUSE/RESIST, and apply CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE against any future attempts against the People. Perhaps these numbers will grow enough to markedly hamper the breadth of their subsequent overt control attempts. We shall see.
