I thought I would pass this link along. Photos may be triggering for gov. mc survivors. I have no idea how legit this is, but found it powerful.

indianlakeproject.blogspot.com/

I googled a bit. I think it is viral marketing, I hate to say. Maybe for a movie that is upcoming or maybe for an online mystery. A few sites on the internet have referred to it as a "fictional blog" or a viral marketing scheme but they didn't say how they knew.

Some of the old photos look photoshopped to me..but overall it just has that sorta feel. If this is true...they've gone beyond the limits in my view. Time will tell, I guess.

Tease, tease, tease. Interesting, but it sounds like a red herring. The picture on the bottom is scary, though.

I just googled. here...maybe I can find the links again.

From a french viral marketing site:

Quote:

The indian lake project
03/11/05 [Marketing viral] Article en anglais
Une nouvelle campagne subvirale vient de voir le jour, dans le même esprit que Blair Witch.
Une boite contenant des secrets a été découverte dans les bois. That really looks to me like viral marketting, albeit entertainingly done. Notice how the blogger talks about his misgivings for having posted this material on the internet, yet hasn't taken the obvious action and deleted the blog.

Editted:

Quote:
One final note, I have never viewed these movies properly, I am afraid that doing so could damage them (they are not in very good shape on the whole). Therefore, I don’t know if there is sound, which is a shame because that could answer some questions.

I call BS on that. He's looking at frames from the movie. The magnetic sound track (the only sort that came on 8mm) would be apparent. The associated pictures look to me like a child with speech or hearing issues being shown how to do some sort of feedback on what sound he's making.

His 1947 nickel is extremely worn as well. If his story's true, then the lastest it could have been lost would be 1955, which would mean that it was only handled for eight years. Nickels are hard, and wear very slowly. Look through your pocket change, and compare the wear on your nickels to this one. That nickel's been in circulation for decades.

-Sepka the Space Weasel
Edited by: Sepka at: 10/27/06 12:41 am

Thanks DE, for doing that.

I spent too much time today reading some discussion boards on which people claiming to be survivors were writing. I wondered if a couple of them were moles. That's how I came across the site.

That site is just diabolical, I can't think of another word. And I should not be surprised at the lengths to which some people will go, at the underhanded, dirty, malicious, exploitative things they can do, but apparently I still can be.

Viral marketing for a movie about...well, looks like the cover-up tactic of decoy fictionalization about dark history is rolling along.

What other military-intelligence history will be made into 'fictional entertainment' for the kids?

PW, I can understand your revulsion at the film and the marketing. It's completely understandable you would have a bad reaction to a fictionalization of something very real and personal to you. Some war veterans cannot watch war films, but that doesn't mean a film about war cannot have merit, or be a work of art.

The Indian Lake Project could be an interesting and provocative film -- bringing a subject to light that most people know nothing about.

Contrary to Hugh's suggestion that this is part of some grand conspiracy to obscure real MKULTRA activities, it looks to me like it could be a clever fictionalization of what really happened. In that case, and providing the film is actually good, it could ignite more public interest in U.S. government mind control programs.

My novel, which I'm currently shopping around to agents, also deals with many of the issues discussed on this board. It's fiction, and dark fiction at that, but when it's published I hope it will draw more attention to issues that seem relegated to the bottom of the "conspiracy theory" bin.

So fiction -- even fiction about disturbing or horrific subjects -- isn't necessarily exploitative. Fiction can open people's minds to things they had never considered, and spur real-life investigation (as resulted from the dreadful "DaVinci Code," for one example).

Of course, once the film version of the book gets made, I'm sure Hugh will have a lot to say about my Mockingbird pedigree :-)

It's a tough call. Doubtless the filmmakers, if that's who is behind this, want a succesful film and to be famous, etc.

When a film touches on parapolitical topics I never know whether that will make people more open to them or will make people assume that "oh, that's just a Hollywood story" and dismiss it. This is exactly the sort of thing that I would expect to happen along the lines of what Hugh talks about...not keywords...but a film that explores a topic that maybe the bad guys want to discredit. Or promote a disinfo version of something real.

Or, it might open people up to a possibility they never considered possible. I really don't know.

I started watching Battlestar Galactica..the new series. You've never seen a darker, more conflicted tv show. It's humans vs. robots called "cylons" who have learned to use genetics to give themselves human bodies. All of humanity has been wiped by out by the cylons save a remnant protected by the titular battlestar. SOME cylons don't even know they are cylons and have programming that kicks in due to certain triggers and become assassins or sabateurs and aren't even aware of it. Some actually escape their programming and side with the humans. (by the way, it's the best acting and writing I've ever seen on a tv show, nevermind a scifi tv show. Whatever it's conspiracy/parapolitical purpose may be, if there even is one, it's well done. Every "hero" character gets shown in various episodes in an unflattering light...making questionable and even flat out morally wrong choices. In other words, they are very human. I don't watch TV much but a friend gave them to me on DVD. No commercials!)

The movie "Serenity" had a similar theme and only the programmed assassin's brother knew the right words to get the young assassin (in this case, an overt mind control victim) out of her assassin mode.

And of course there is Manchurian Candidate.

Does this open minds to possibilities or does it forever put these topics into the "hollywood fiction" category? Personally, these sorts of films have opened my eyes to this. But many are different. I'm amazed that people can watch an action thriller in which the CIA is doing horrendous stuff and find it believable and then completely revert to "all is well" mentality back in the real world.

I don't like the viral marketing stuff. I find it very clever, but ultimately, it's about passing off fiction as fact in pretty sophisticated ways. And we should all be aware that nothing you see on the web should be accepted at face value, I think it muddies things even more.

But the only links on the site are to info about MKULTRA including the declassified files. So does that discredit those, once the blog is revealed as fiction, or do people start looking around and seeing what else is out there?

Hi Prof.,
Thanks for the alternative view, and good luck on your book. A survivor I know presented parts of her story as fiction in novel form, but I point to it as a resource, because it also contains very real and accurate information.

What troubles me about this site is the way it's done, presenting fiction as fact. I can see survivors themselves being fooled by the site (I nearly was), and sending it out to people as evidence, in fact, that's exactly how I came upon it. It's an excellent way to discredit us.

The one photo with the girl on the bed, I have no idea where that came from, if indeed it is not wholly invented, got to me. I know real photos of subjects in the midst of various programming/torture sessions exist and are buried in files somewhere. It's just what we need, a leak like that. But this site sets a precedent, if we ever were to get our hands on such photos, who would believe they are real?

DE, I've had some discussions with regular folk about movies like Firefly. When I assert that someone involved with the project may have had inside info (it surely seemed that way to me), I get the response that the general themes involving the mind control character are fairly ubiquitous in the sci-fi genre, and nothing too new or surprising. So, back to square one.

I can say that at least these fictionalized accounts get the concepts into the public's awareness.
