I assume that you're referring to the parties, and not the voters- who do in fact tend to divide into two different camps in terms of social philosophy, political ideology, and/or approach to economic problems, any one of which can lead a voter to define themselves with one or the other political party.

As a result, the national core leadership of the two parties do in fact "have a difference"- one fools their constituency with one set of appeals, and the other relies on a different style of hoodwinking. The con games are mostly associated with matters of domestic policy. As a rule of thumb: the more trivial the issue, the sharper the apparent divide between the two, expressed mostly as rhetoric rather than enacted policies. ( Or perhaps a more accurate adverb modifier would be "overwhelmingly"... )

As for matters of foreign policy...well, you know...has anyone gotten any shocks of unpredictability out of the Baker Commission's report & recommendations, released with much fanfare this morning?

I haven't had a single surprise out of foreign policy news since March 2003, when I got word that the tanks were rolling out of Kuwait, down the highway to Baghdad. I thought they'd at least wait until summer was over (the difference between having the logistical ability to begin reconstruction of the country, and allowing it to fall apart, as well as a difference of maybe 1000 sunstroke casualties for the coalition forces- and sunstroke is no joke)...in retrospect, I should have known. They didn't give a shit. After all, the basic military outcome was never in doubt...it wasn't as if we were grappling with a world-class military machine (so would you chicken hawks stop it with the Winston Churchill comparisons, already? ) Their Grand Strategy was to serve up some steaming pile of furrowed-brow rubbish from the Wise Men, 3 years down the road...

I can sum up the report in one word, 5 letters: S-T-A-L-L.

Here's a great example of a conspiracy right under our noses: every year millions of grown ups take part in an elaborate conspiracy to fool little children into believing that there is a brightly colored magical being that will visit them in the dead of night and give them presents if they have been good.

I can't stress enough how important the study of the socialization of children is to all the peace and justice concerns we have. The Santa Claus myth and the way parents think it is 'cute' to screw with tiny minds in general with superstitions and coercion is a damn crime against humanity. And it is the reason we are in the pickle we're in.

The spychiatrists who help market USA, Inc. to 'citizens' and the corporate vampires have all done the research on how to mess up a human in the earliest stages.

A 1965 book on how children pick up their politcal affiliations revealed how utterly haphazard, contradictory, and irrational is the manner in which a child cobbles together their sense of the way 'things are and work.'

Factions within the Ohkrana manipulated Czarist Russia's financial connections from Germany to France, undermining stability of German/Russia block, setting up German/Austria connection which linked Germany to Austria's anti-Serb policies--and, well, you know the rest.

What I liked about it--ties past intel ops to present in terms of both past and present following same pattern(s)--and shows use of false flag ops.

What I didn't like--it's so convenient in terms of connecting conspiracy theory versions of present intel ops, to past events. It's almost TOO good/useful.

I know a lot of people on here do not like William Blum, I personally have no opinion on him, he wrote an interesting book called ROGUE STATE, that was pushed by Osama Bin Laden once in one of his videos, but for purposes of this thread he wrote an interesting book that I just finished called KILLING HOPE: US MILITARY AND CIA INTERVENTIONS SINCE WORLD WAR 2.

It is an interesting book about covert operations that were meant to culturally and politically destablize regions throughout the world.

Seymour Hersh first exposed MK-ULTRA in a New York Times article in 1974 that documented CIA illegalities, including the use of its own citizens as guinea pigs in games of war and espionage. John Marks expertly chronicled more of the operation in his 1979 book, The Search for the Manchurian Candidate. There have been other reports on the CIA's doping of civilians, but they have mostly dished about activities in New York City. Accounts of what actually occurred in San Francisco have been sparse and sporadic. But newly declassified CIA records, recent interviews, and a personal diary of an operative at Stanford Special Collections shed more light on the breadth of the San Francisco operation.

This new article includes personal accounts from victims and participants. Amazing stuff.

...In 1951, reading The Hibberd Journal, a scientific paper of the time, Hubbard stumbled across an article about the behavior of rats given LSD. "He knew that was it," says Harman. Hubbard went and found the person conducting the experiment and came back with some LSD for himself. After this first acid experience, he had become a True Believer.

"Hubbard discovered psychedelics as a boon and a sacrament," recalls Leary.

A 1968 resume states that Hubbard was at various times employed by the Canadian Special Services, the US Justice Department and, ironically, what is now the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Whether he was part of the CIA mind-control project known as MK-ULTRA, might never be known: all paperwork generated in connection with that diabolical experiment was destroyed in '73 by MK-ULTRA chief Dr. Sidney Gottlieb, on orders from then-CIA Director Richard Helms, citing a "paper crisis."

Under the auspices of MK-ULTRA the CIA regularly dosed its agents and associates with powerful hallucinogens as a preemptive measure against the Soviets' own alleged chemical technology, often with disastrous results. The secret project would see at least two deaths: tennis pro Harold Blauer died after a massive injection of MDA; and the army's own Frank Olson, a biological-warfare specialist, crashed through a closed window in the 12th floor of New York's Statler Hotel, after drinking cognac laced with LSD during a CIA symposium. Dr. Osmond doubts that Hubbard would have been associated with such a project, "not particularly on humanitarian grounds, but on the grounds that it was bad technique."

{Note:} Recently, a researcher for WorldNetDaily and author of a forthcoming book based on the Frank Olson "murder," revealed to this writer that he has received, via a FOIA request of CIA declassified materials, documents which indicate that Al Hubbard was, indeed, in contact with Dr. Sidney Gottlieb and George Hunter White--an FBI narcotics official who managed Operation Midnight Climax, a joint CIA/FBI blackmail project in which unwitting "johns" were given drinks spiked with LSD by CIA-managed prostitutes, and whose exploits were videotaped from behind two-way mirrors at posh hotels in both New York and San Francisco.
