Putin on Israeli prez: 'He raped 10 women. We all envy him'

I'm with Joe on this one: Putin's snickering comments about rape could have been made by 7 out of 10 males in these circumstances, if they thought nobody could hear them. Maybe he was trying to establish a sort of macho camraderie, trying to get his guests to relax. In any case, I think that his comment says a lot more about what's going on underneath the radar in our societies than specifically about him. Grabbing the kid and kissing his stomach, + his subsequent explanation, creeped me out a lot more. My comment about elite deviance was in response to the article on Putin's reported behavior on the rafting trip that was discussed in the Counterpunch article. As to Putin's off-handed comments on rape- the man is a head of state. His remarks were made at an official function in the company of others representing governments, which are imbued with powers and responsibilities that behoove them to conduct themselves at a more civilized and compassionate manner than the "average bloke" misogynists of the world.

This is earth, and unfortunately it doesn't work like that here. I wasn't actually responding specifically to your comment rrd. It just seemed elite deviance was a good term to use, cos to me this is an issue beyond the elites, its more about what is funsamentally wrong with most men in our world. gc has a point tho. In this particular case Putin isn't the scumbag, he's just expressing admiration for the scumbag.

Who says? That's buying into the News Cycle Fallacy. It's perhaps more in favor of your intended point that I've heard nothing in the popular media about either story at all.

I emailed St Clair (at sitka@comcast.com) yesterday to ask the question, but I won't hold my breath waiting for a reply. It's something...heck, I've just discovered, St Clair is an editor of Counterpunch, so he's got a few good reasons to want to get to the bottom of this...

Pretty crazy if it's a totally fabricated story, i wonder why it was written? I guess maybe could have some basis in fact, have originally been about someone else + mistakenly or deliberately attributed to Putin? strange stuff.

And of course, erosupplier, this John Weisheit is prepared to confirm this story to someone other than to an anonymous poster on this board? I haven't read the article myself, to be honest, but does St. Clair name John Weisheit as his source? A story told by someone to someone, is usually referred to as "gossip" or "rumor", not fact. Until this story gets based on something besides hot air, let's just file it under "hit piece" in our "malice" cabinet, right next to the garbage bin, shall we?

Even though some may be offended, as any type of humor referencing jews has thousands of times before, if you've watched the "Borat" schtick regularly, you know the deal. He's had some pretty amazing interviews. I laughed my ass off on quite a few if not all. Especially with Bushie southerners and politicians. The only guy who seemed to ever "get it", I think, was Pat Buchanan. I remember a couple of Bushco's getting really mad. One in particular ripped his mic off. Anyone remember who that was? Also good grab on the St. Clair Counterpunch story. That should sum up all the strange behaviours of Putie.
