OK I've greatly enjoyed perusing your book - quite amazing - I'd say versatility is probably your watch word ( referred to in artistic circles as paying the fucking rent I guess )
but :

I have questions

is this you driving the car ?

is the vehicle the "same" as the one parked outside the Marlin building ( Miami ? Did you visit or was it your "Hockney Period")



this page gave me a sort of chuckle - the bit about the homeless artist selling their views of their picturesque city to passers by to earn a crust to eat - reminded me of someone else I once read about in.....Vienna I think - whatever happened to him ?



the cheap materials didn't seem to make any difference to the quality of the output. Where abouts did you sit to get the view of the upper stories of the building ?

I'm slightly creeoped out by your ability to paint apple skins & leathery dragon wings

this is the one that made me jump out of all of them. My dad's a bit of an amateur dauber. We went up to Scotland to visit some places like this & he did a couple of similar views so I want to show him this. The sun burning through behind the clouds & the shimmer of the water is just incredible.

The fellow driving the car is John Williamson, formerly of The Animals (well, a late iteration of them anyway) an old mate of my dad. If I'm not mistaken I think they both used to play at the Cavern around the same time in the early/mid sixties. It was a cover for one of his albums with Mike Bowden called Right Band Wrong Planet, hence the cover image. And yes, it is derived from a pink T-Bird, the same model as the one in the Miami scene, but both are just illustrations, never actually been to either location...

The upper story of the mock Tudor buildings was actually drawn while standing, not sitting, from a vantage slightly to the left of the clock tower on page 74. If you look, you'll see that's the same building on the left (p 74) only, drawn from ground level. I had my cheap pad with it's flimsy piece of card backing in my left hand (constantly flopping and bending) and a pencil in my right, all the while Japanese tourists alternately peering over my shoulder or taking pictures of the clock while posed around me. Not an easy drawing...

Been dusting off my ink line skills and designing T-Shirt illustrations for print on demand at Redbubble, gotta pay the rising bills...



Several fully illustrated designs will be going up over the next few weeks and one or two designs posted a day. So I've been doing little doodles, re-learning some of the skills. A bit rusty...

A recent comissioned drawing of a 16th century building interior and exterior. Note what appears to be a strand of DNA (the clear double helix pattern with ladders connecting the strands) running across the building below the attic windows...

Thinking About George Washington's Teeth on MLK, Jr. Day
I wonder if we are all taught the story about the wooden teeth to cover up the story of the slaves' teeth. Perhaps Washington himself, ashamed of the truth, promoted the wooden teeth story.

Cheers Fru. Just the format of his work is by itself a profound artistic statement. He's as good an artist as anyone, in my opinion. If he's even more talented as an essayist then so much the better.

This is interesting, Supper at Emmaus by Pontormo Carucci AKA Jacopo da Pontormo 1494 – 1557. The picture dates from 1525. Apparently this is in the Uffizi in Florence although I couldn't see it on their website.

If that date is correct this is the earliest depiction of the illuminating eye i've come across.
