Watchmen movie release, one year and counting

Post by Jeff »

http://rss.warnerbros.com/watchmen/

I'm dreading/anticipating this one, like with every adaptation of a work I treasure.

A batch of new images, mostly of some characters in costume. Reserving judgement, but I'm liking what I'm seeing. (When I see Dr Manhattan, then I'll have a better idea.) So far, it looks like it's made by people who are meaning to get it right.

Watchmen nerds, what say you?

Nice to see the Black Freighter reference (Tales of the Black Freighter is going to be produced as an animated short to be included on the Watchmen dvd):

While I was loading the images I took a Watchmen personality test. I was hoping and even trying not to, but I still came out a Rorshach.

You scored 64% Moral Imperatives and 46% Attitude!

You are extremely moral absolutist. While you unwaveringly follow a strict moral code, you often fail to demonstrate the empathy needed to make a moral decision. You find institutional forms of order unsatisfactory and oppressive and believe that your uncompromisng standpoint somehow exempts you from accusations of wrong-doing. While some might respect your individual and steadfast perspective, be prepared for the possibility that the practical majority might find your black and white moral code unnacceptable.

The Silk Spectre

You scored 53% Moral Imperatives and 69% Attitude!

You are altruistic yet selfish. An overbearing sense of pressure has lead to your moral perspective being offset by a confusion of self identity with your acts of goodness generally being motivated by self-interest, even if only to convince yourself of your 'goodness'. Ultimately we all have to grow up, though you might find that your need for confirmation through other people will require another equally confused person to help you do so.
Rorshach was my favorite from the comics though. The movie looks really good.

I hate to be the one to say this, but considering its an Alan Moore story, and a good one at that, odds are they'll horribly fuck it up.

I'd like to think otherwise, but somewhere in the pit of my stomach I just know...

I hope I'm wrong. Pulling it off properly would have an interesting effect on culture.

Few will go see the whole movie.
Far more will see just the title and heroic framing.

This will not be good. It can't possibly work as a film without being changed beyond recognition.

Nite Owl, 75% moral imperatice, 55% attitude.

According to the test, I am outwardly altruistic yet neurotically obsessed. Whether through a privileged background or being just plain naive, I try to act as a morally conscious individual while never fully attempting to understand the harsher sides of reality, torn between contemplating my own identity and being a good person. Though compassionate and honorable, I suffer from an incomplete personality and my unresolved neurosis border on the egomanical leaving me in the dark.

This is actually true, although I wouldn't use some of that terminology.

i came up as night owl.

'Whether through a priveldged background or being just plain naieve, you try to act as a morally conscious individual while never fully attempting to understand the harsher sides of reality, torn between contemplating your own identity and being a good person. '

which is good since i am a birder, but the bold part is so off base its laughable. but then, its a comic, no?

Odds that movie will not suck = not fucking likely

Sure, what we want [what would work] will be an adaptation at least as close to the book, as say From Hell was.

What will we get? League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, probably.

We'll know for certain once you see the big blue naked guy with the mark of the beast on his forehead. Until then I will refrain from denouncing this film.

Is it too much to ask that directors adapting literature read it first?
Twice preferrably?
