When Miley etc do these routines I find it so boring, we've seen it all a thousand times already - she was on our last Royal Variety Show here in the UK singing some shit song while pouting and gyrating, felt a little embarrassed for her. As for these kids copying the techniques of MTV jailbait - it's just boring and a bit weird. I'm not sure if most pedophiles bother with this kind of stuff (except viewing it on youtube due to being bored). I'm sexually attracted to adult women but I don't watch all the crap of they upload to youtube.

Also,
Why, why, why do people (and it could be mostly girls and women) scream and cheer hysterically at this stuff?
There was some crap TV shows awards thingy on British TV a few months back and the crowd appeared to be on the verge of hysteria every time some non-entity appeared on the stage to either present or collect an award.
Would you travel then queue to scream with joy and excitement at a person who used to be in a daytime TV soap opera?

Re: Is This What I Have To Look Forward To With My Daughter?
On most shows they're instructed to scream and cheer and whatever. Literally instructed. Most are happy to oblige.
That being said, I don't understand why teenage girls scream the way they do at concerts and whatnot. I went to a Cure concert back in about 1990, got really great tickets, right in the middle, about five rows back, and the screaming of the teenage girls behind me was literally painful as shit. I couldn't even turn my head to one side, of the screaming would go directly into my eardrum and cause piercing pain. Then one of them vomited very fresh chinese food which oozed slowly down between our feet. I guess some of them were drunk. The speakers were soothing on my ears compared to these girls.
But in TV shows they're told to cheer.

I know they are told to cheer but this went beyond that. It sounded like mass insanity!
I'm also puzzled by the desire of so many people to take snaps with camera phones when google images provides many and much higher quality pictures of any celeb/sports/tv/film/pop star one could ever need.
I don't need a picture of Tom Cruise on my phone, taken from 200 feet away - If I ever want to see an image of him I'll just Google.

they got the toys, they feel obligated to use them.
funny you mention the mass screaming craziness, I was just noting that myself the other day, crowds just going bonkers over something that couldn't possibly be actually moving them emotionally, and if it was moving, why? it's mob mentality and group anonymity I guess. Probably the only opportunity most of them have to ever raise their voice.

My, they sure are full of energy and enthusiasm at that age.
It is just awful though and I cast my vote for "not getting it" either. I am so glad I don't have kids and probably never will. Having to explain to them things out of my control would be too much. If it were the 80's still, when I grew up, I would probably have 3 by now. In this day, age, economy and full spectrum media environment, IMO, I wouldn't want that stress and heartbreak. Plus they get to go to school and make you sound like a child abuser if you deny them various popular items and media.
I read something a couple years ago about the "safety first" mentality of society these days. Back in like 1981, the guy said, if he'd gotten on his bike and went down the street to play with his neighborhood friends with a helmet on, the other kids would have kicked his ass. It was a good essay but I have no idea where to find it now. It echoes my feeling on skateboarding these days too. You can't go to a strip mall and skate the curbs, rails and stairs anymore. Can't go to office parking garages late at night and hit the loading docks anymore. All of it is confined to skate parks, all the skateable surfaces are now "defaced" and booby trapped to make skating anywhere impossible. Skating to me represented freedom. If I were the age I was in 1989 today, I would have never gotten into skateboarding at all.
All that said, I do truly wonder what the formative experiences are these days for kids. This video seems to be one of them. Fuckin' sucks.

I dunno. The issue of race or style of dance didn't even enter my mind watching that video. What bothered me so much was how sexualized these little girls look. Who the fuck wants their little tweens dressed like that? I would have a huge issue with my 7 or 8 year old daughter wearing lacy lingerie with bare midriff.
If you're worried that a pervert is gonna look at your children with sin in his heart, better not let them leave the house, swim at the local pool, compete in World of Dance, go to school, attend church (that's a big one!), ride a bus, visit a mall, so on and so forth.
heh, funny you mention this. My brother has a habit of chasing the old ogling perverts out of the McDonalds play area when he goes there with his kids. You can just tell what's on their minds, they seem to have no shame. Just the other day some creepy old man was trying to get the attention of my daughter & I looked at him & told him "don't bother pal." She is still young yet, but the thought of someone actively wanting to hurt or use her sickens me.

This is kind of what bothered me too. We just don't really dress eight year olds that way if they're not at the beach. But b/c I came across this garbage in the context of OMGTEH17YEAROLDGIRLZ on CNN I still can't take it seriously.

Is this for real? B/c it's terrifying. I haven't been to a fast food playground in a long, long time but believe I may never have witnessed such a thing.

Regardless of the context, that's a terribly misogynist statement and you should take it back, both of you.
If you have an inherent problem with voices naturally higher pitched than yours, I will hunt you down and wake you with loudspeakers in the wee hours, you assholes.

I meant to draw attention to the fact that he had marked "girls and women" with "hysterical", not to call girls and women hysterical, which answers his question, because we mark female behaviors or teach women to engage in marked behavior, one way or another. Apologies for the lack of explanation.

These kids are amazing dancers. What a bummer that their talent is being so vulgarized.

Yup. At least at the one he frequents with his kids. He got sick of the dirty old guys ogling the kids. At one point, one of them tried getting a little too familiar with his 4 year old daughter & he told him to get the fuck outta there & quit bothering the kids. He hounded them all the way out the door & told them if he ever caught them in there again he'd start kicking ass. Needless to say, said dirty old buggers haven't been around much.
