What are you eating now?

Post by Stephen Morgan »

Far more telling that reading material or psychopharmacology. What was your last meal? Pictures if possible.

I'll begin: Red Leicester cheese, that being local, and brown sliced bread. I'd show you pictures of the dazzling red of my cheese but the batteries in the camera have run out.

My most recent meal (I do hope it's not my last) was a warmed up bowl of last night's chili.

I love Red Leicester and semper's sounds good too.

Lunch was crab salad with crab caught by my neighbor and herbs from the garden on a bagel (don't know where it came from). Freezing local raspberries for sorbet now. Dinner will be free-range chicken with potatoes and carrots from the garden. Tomatoes or salad too.

I'm drinking home grown, processed, roasted and made coffee.

It tastes like liquid sex.

Mr Cowbell, every day is your birthday.

Joe, you almost make me want to drink coffee.

Lemonade blended up with a peach and some ice is really good.

What is dry cajun?

What is dry cajun?

Heavily marinated/rubbed/hot-spiced wings, deep fried, no sauce. I like them cold.

I dunno if its just the whole "home grown" factor, but the stuff we have, which was either grown here or at my inlaws place, is just fantastic.

It took a while to sus out the roasting, which we do on top of the stove, but now. Lush.

Mind you ours is a good strain. Ang and I were both working at this nursery that got an order to do the seedlings for Mountain Top Coffee. We were sposed to destroy everything that didn't get planted, but we pinched a few. I hate the idea of raising seedlings then just destroying the ones that don't get planted to protect a commercial advantage.

Anyway tonight I ate vego pasta and a chicken kiev from a local butcher.

I know someone who grows, processes and smokes his own tobacco. And he knows someone who makes his own illicit diesel.

Now, sorbet, bok choy, chili, vego pasta and chicken kiev are just some of the things in this thread I've never encountered.

Having ate again since starting this thread my most recent meal is now fish and chips, £4.90, fried in lard, I think, judging by the taste, whereas a lot use beef tallow nowadays, or at least hydrogenated vegetable oil flavoured like beef tallow. Salt, malt vinegar, two pints of milk to wash it all down with. Full now. Haddock, incidentally, not cod. Or Plaice. Never had plaice.

Every chippy is unique, of course. Some do fish cakes with string in 'em, some do battered fish cakes, so do saveloy, some do pineapple fritters. My favourite does at least four types of fritter, potato, pineapple, spam and banana. The local, however, does lots of non-traditional stuff like kebabs and chicken and burgers, and their chips taste like beef tallow.

someone I knew who worked in Grimsby ( a fishing port ) claimed no-one up there ever ate cod - it was an "unclean" fish - a bottom-feeder & used to have these worms in it... ( hope I'm not spoiling anyone else's dinner ).
