Because all white people who talk with a southern accent (like I said, I don't even think that's a Mississippi accent) are ignorant UFO-chasing hicks? It would have been about as subtle to have someone speaking African-American Vernacular say he was so surprised he dropped his grape soda.

Nathan, you seem like an intelligent, insightful person, but I swear, half the time I don't have a clue what the hell you're trying to say and I'm pretty sure it's not because my reading and comprehension skills are not up to snuff. If I could make sense of c2w there's really no way that anybody else here who writes clearly can fail to be understood by me.

You start your response with because, as though I had asked a why question, which I didn't, and then end the first sentence of your response with a question mark.

Did you think I had asked why include a voice with a mississippi (southern) accent? Because I didn't. Although, it is a good question and if I had asked it and you answered in the way you did I don't think I'd be any closer to understanding why you think the hoaxsters included a voice with a southern accent.

Are you suggesting the hoaxsters felt that the southern caricature you suggest (one with which I am unfamiliar) would lend authenticity to their work?

It would have been about as subtle to have someone speaking African-American Vernacular say he was so surprised he dropped his grape soda.

I don't know what this means either.

Will probably be used by James Dobson et al... to say the Messiah has returned, all but 12% of Jews will die, nearly all muslims, half of everybody else who doesn't believe that Jesus Christ is the personal saviour.

That's one of those African-Amercan cliches: Grape Soda, Cheetos, watermelon, fried chicken, Newports, et cetera.

I enjoy all of those, and I am caucasian.

Well, I grew up in Alabama and it sounds like a genuine southern accent to me, although more South Carolinian perhaps. It's far better than any I've heard in the movies which are generally modeled after the speech of upper class Louisianians.

sounded pretty real to me too.

anyway, thought i'd add this re the third video:

Image

Description Jerusalem night 7088.JPG
English: Night over Jerusalem, The Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem Old City on the Temple Mount and Mount of Olives in the background.
Date March 2008(2008-03)

Source Own work (My own picture)

Author Hynek Moravec

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File: ... t_7088.JPG

compare to this, in daylight, and moving a little to the right:

Image

here's a link to googlemaps.

the silver dome in the foreground is the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the background is the Mount of Olives cemetary.

line of sight is practically due east. the distance between the Sep and the Dome is 4-500 meters.

i don't think there are many places in jerusalem where you can get that clear line of sight from the Holy sepulchre with the Dome in full view and the Mount as a backdrop. kind of a "duh" stop on a tourist route.

looking at the third video with the "darkness" around the object someone noted (justdrew?) what i could make out was a belltower. at least it looked like one to me. was why i went image hunting in the first place. it seems the grove of cypresses or whatever might explain that.

here's the daylight view from Armon Hanatziv (closest i could get to videos one and two):

Image

here's a link to googlemaps.

line of sight is practically due north -- distance between AH and the Dome is 2/2.5 kilometers. which may, light source taken into consideration, explain why the flash does not appear in the third.

what's the point of all this? not sure. just thinking.

Whatever those folks are saying in that clip, they certainly sound genuinely startled/awestruck... [anyone have any idea what is being said?]

Didn't have any feeling or look of 'fakery' to me, though I'm no expert.

It'd be interesting to get a slow-mo clip of those flashes of light prior to its sprint back up into the sky.

Kinda reminds me of a scene in the movie Poltergeist [at around the 6 min mark]:

It almost feels like this was a class project for some After Effects class or something, and they're posting all the best videos.

UFO videos are nothing new or even really that exciting anymore. But this one seems a little more significant. Seems unusual to see so many different sources coming in. If it's a hoax it's definitely taking things to a new level...

The video above shows the spinning wobble that we are used to seeing in a lot of other good ufo videos, whereas the other videos it looked more like a ball of light. But it could be because the above video was much higher rez or something along those lines...

Interesting to see where this is going... Distraction or getting close to contact?

There's a longer verion of the new, fourth video on the same user's channel:

Can't embed this one, but it's about five minutes long and plays out a backstory of sorts.

I'm guessing that nathan was not contending that the voice with the southern accent was not "real". Rather he was just contending that it was not a mississippi accent and that the voice was added to the soundtrack, presumably to fit a southern caricature that would hook into the viewers predispositions... southern evangelical holy land tourist ufo chasing rube, I guess.

The soundtrack to that video is actually fairly sophisticated... Background conversations, conversations in a language other than english, wind blowing past the microphone, the southern rube, and then the actors voices(which also have a southern accent)... "Is that a ufo?", "holy shit", etc...

what's the point of all this? not sure. just thinking.

What is the point? I'm still ruminating. Maybe answering the question, what is the effect?, might suggest what the intent was if there was one beyond simply creating a youtube ufo hoax vid.
