Qualified Immunity = Licence to kill. The Supreme Court has once again decided it will not take on a very important case in which police would be held accountable for their actions.
This is an attack to our Constitutional/Civil Rights.
Not even 4 "Justices" could agree to at least review the cases.
The Police State is real and it is well protected on all levels.
Thanks, to Brit fetishes.. aetiology. Doesn’t every little boy want to be

Most of the people I talk to believe that qualified immunity is what protects cops from accountability, and this is certainly so. It's also only half of the equation: qualified immunity is what protects our ruling class from us.

Re: Hegemony & Tropes
Hardly the same argument each time for careful viewers and now you've relegated it to the back pages. Sometimes the more you "explain" something- the less it means and the more it moves away from what "it is", to what "you want it to be". I'm not going to expound on posts so they have sufficient enough revolutionary fervor, how they might be construed trope wise, possibly (mis) extrapolated out for the less pure at heart or sloppy thinkers, what I "really" meant, etc. Like most things you can find what you you agree with and don't agree with in it if you are looking for it to begin with. (For example Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard was both championed by Communists and Anti-Communists for championing their respective causes.) Maybe you are more comfortable with less ambiguity, humor, and subtlety in your art and prefer more 1:1 pre-approved direct political message art/propaganda. I'd suggest sticking to Socialist Realism then. Now, please I am an artist, I must have some peace to scour the internet for old movie images.JackRiddler » Mon Jun 15, 2020 2:59 pm wrote:How? P.S. Please don't ask me what the above image "means".

Chekhov!
Yes of course, why didn't I see it sooner? The crude anti-humanism, the brick-in-the face misanthropy, the contempt for empathy and the individual, the lack of subtlety, the ambiguous way you take a shit on stage, the crickets chirping over seats filled neither with communists nor anti-communists. This is the second coming of Chekhov!

Re: Bet on Dem VP! (Switches to: "Spring 2020 Riots Thread")
One positive thing about the Defund the Police demands and signs is that it ensures that all the Hollywood noisemakers keep their traps shut for a change. Other than that though it is counterproductive and stupid. It is intended that way, provocateurs mess things up less than the original designers, who could have just as easily put up signs and demands that say Demilitarize the Police. Then there would be about, Oh maybe about 95% or more support for protests.
But no, we don't get this, maybe because Demilitarize is too big a word for signs?
To recognise the stupidity, consider implications. No policing in rough areas and ex-cops hired for security in gated communities. Does anyone think that lawyers protecting the elite and their 'security' from 'violations' will work for the people better than police accountability boards?
This seems to me to be another gambit to protect and promote organized crime. There is quite a bit of counterfeit floating about.

Take the flamewar to the other thread
brekin can keep posting his collages depicting his interesting views of the conjuncture of BLM and Coronavirus and I can keep finding them despicable, but his most recent post on this thread and my reply were moved to the new thread for flamewar and stupid bar-fights, here. Related insults and tactically recalled misunderstandings dating from the Pleistocene should go there. Everyone please keep this thread on-topic and avoid personalizing (or false accusations of personalization).

Outrage over video showing police macing child at Seattle protest
Standing among a group of peaceful anti-racism protesters in downtown Seattle on a recent Saturday afternoon, Mando Avery held his seven-year-old son’s hand as he and three generations of his African American family finished a prayer with members of their church. Only feet away, Evan Hreha, 34, a hairstylist, arrived at the protests alone. That was when, Avery said, out of nowhere, a police officer fired mace at the group. It hit his son square in the face. As the young boy screamed and clutched on to his father, Hreha caught it all on camera. He confronted the officer he believed had maced the boy and told him the footage was going online. He then posted it on social media. The footage captures the outrage of protesters who demand to know why police maced a child, and made no attempt to help. Since then, Hreha has been arrested and spent two days in jail for what some are calling police retribution for a video which went viral. The young boy is still traumatized, reeling from the chemical burn on his cheek and asking his parents what he did to deserve it.“I would say that you were targeting my boy,” Avery told the Guardian, asked what he would say to police.“I don’t know if you were trying to set an example and strike fear into him. You did a great job.”What upsets him most, Avery said, is that officers and a group of emergency medical technicians standing about a block away did not step in to help.“No officer, who’s paid to protect, chose to stand up, break the ranks, go help this child,” he said.“I just don’t understand how any of them can sleep.”Police violence and arrests in response to mostly peaceful protests have become one of the themes of nationwide demonstrations triggered by the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis in May. Protesters have been teargassed, beaten, hit with rubber bullets and kettled. Thousands have reported injuries, some life-threatening, with thousands more arrested. Many face jail time. After the first weekend of protests in Seattle, the city’s Office of Police Accountability reported at least 12,000 complaints. The majority were related to Avery’s son, whose name is being withheld to protect his privacy. The OPA has said it is expediting its investigation. Last week, officials announced they would ban the use of teargas during protests for 30 days. On Saturday 30 May, Avery said, his family drove nearly an hour north from Tacoma, Washington, to be a part of the anti-racism movement and fight for police reform. The family has received some criticism online about bringing their young child to the protests. But when they circled the blocks around the demonstrations, looking for parking, they spotted other families with young children and pets. It felt completely safe, they said. Within 45 minutes, the boy, who will be entering third grade in the fall, had been maced. Shenelle Williams, his mother, said hearing his scream was the “most gut-wrenching feeling”.“I kind of feel like a failure as well,” she said,

You are good with dehumanizing people to fit approved talking points because you can't define someones position?
Probably not understanding completely, but agree so far, yes weird.

Sigh, my bad, I'm saying that art produces feelings that I find to be gratifying well before my intellectual mind kicks in and, Uh, makes the experience more complicated. So I like your work, thanks.

Well this is a hell of a turn
Klobuchar withdraws from veepstakes, says Biden should pick woman of color "I think this is a moment to put a woman of color on that ticket," she told MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell on Thursday night.
("Withdraws" from the notional contest to win the favor of a man suffering dementia, at least as produced in the Reality TV snippets, or of an ad-hoc Biden Handlers' Committee, as I describe it. What a crazy country and system, I thought not for the first time.)
liminal and I lose! We both get new picks for the consolation prize.
I forget, what were the other bets announced? (sorry)
The uprising, groundswell, protests have started something big that looks a lot more consequential than the original question. (What a talent for the obvious I have.)

Even though she's not on the list here I've always thought Susan Rice was the obvious choice
Now given events etc etc etc I'm leaning towards Condoleeza Rice as the more obvious obvious choice
GOP loyalties must continue to crumble-- how could they not? I know, let me count the ways-- and of course this makes for a uh um er uh 'compelling narrative' going forward
With the seeming exception of Dick Cheney motherfuckers of the old loyalist Bush crew ain't done yet
And they uniformly appear to really openly despise this orange jagoff guy there in DC
