If the way you present your message immediately pisses off a large percentage of people you're doing it wrong, unless your goal is to push people away.
How often do you see campaigners, for any cause except Holocaust remembrance, use the yellow star? The answer is never, because it's stupid and offensive, and everyone realizes that it's counterproductive. Doesn't matter how good your cause is, people will roll their eyes and say Christ, what an asshole.

The Covid controversy bores me. I don't spend time reading about it beyond skimmng this thread. I caught Covid around twenty months ago when a visiting friend was careless about "a really nasty flu" he wasn't quite over. It wasn't a big deal for me to stay home and refuse visitors until I was fully over it. I guess you could say my freedom was taken away for ten days.
The wildly outsized fear I see is likening Covid responses to Nazi genocide. I don't see a monolithic global conspiracy to crush the human spirit with N95 masks. I see competing and overlapping "reset" plans and doubtless some small faction says, "Why not just kill off the unproductive retirees?" And why wouldn't they?
Does Big Brother QR Code mean I'll be forced to own a smartphone? I'd rather not.

That is the whole point of Covid, the effect sought. The wildly outsized fear I see
It looks very much as though Remdesivir was used in the US as a lethal injection. Despite its known toxicity massive quantities were purchased by the government at the outset as the official response to Covid, despite devastating side effects and lack of proven efficacy it was the only drug prescribed for Covid patients while all effective treatments were specifically prohibited. It could be that the bulk of 'Covid' deaths were actually Remdesivir poisoning.

Re: Coronavirus Crisis: Main Thread
Come on. Surely by now you see that vigorous objections to policies are NOT due (at least primarily) to 'temporary quarantine' or mask use by itself. It's about the coercions, the harmful and unnecessary lockdown measures, the forced medical interventions to maintain status, movement or livelihood (employment, grocery shopping, etc), as an eventual push towards an ID tracking system that can then not only manage and monitor activities but also limit or restrict them as well.Elvis » Thu Sep 02, 2021 3:28 am wrote:This is getting ridiculous. This is what's happening, right now, in some places worse than others, but left unchecked it appears to be the intention to push this globally.
This was never about a virus. If it turns out there's truth to some of the more recent allegations raised here, death figures were not only manipulated but also purposely padded by culling those in long term care or nursing facilities (and other poor souls that were checked into hospitals, particularly during those earlier months of 2020).
One other point: the yellow star was initially used, ostensibly, as a means to more easily track the Jews/undesirables, well before it escalated to the point where they were sent off to death camps (and as we know, when it eventually got to that point, even as the trains were being filled with passengers, many jews refused to believe they were being sent off to their end. It was too inexplicable to accept. Until it happened).
Some of this should sound familiar:
(A reminder, once again, that in urban areas in particular many of the unvaccinated are in the labor/struggling classes, or are minorities. Proof of vaccination will have more direct and immediate harms to the lower classes, broadly. Outright discrimination)On September 1, 1941, the Reich Minister of the Interior decreed that Jews over the age of six in the Greater German Reich were required to wear a yellow Star of David on their outer clothing in public at all times. While ghettos were generally not established in Germany, strict residence regulations forced Jews to live in designated areas of German cities, concentrating them in “Jewish houses” (“Judenhäuser”).
Within Germany, the sight of neighbors forced to wear the yellow badge often elicited sympathy from non-Jewish Germans. This response was widespread enough that the Ministry of Propaganda and Enlightenment felt compelled to issue pamphlets instructing Germans on how they should respond when encountering neighbors wearing the yellow star.
I'm not suggesting a yellow star serves as a viable protest symbol. But to colorfully object with its comparison (a comparison, not a direct parallel) to current govt activities/policies is to be blind to what's happening out there, right now.
And we're not yet at peak madness.

Ahem...
.
There are literally thousands of past pretexts for tyranny that one could cite as supposed parallels -- and nearly all of them are equally useless. Useful history (in the best sense) examines how we got here, and is not about comparisons to any past event that the observer thinks the present 'looks' like.
Several of you are insisting on always going to the single past event that as a comparison is most obviously going to be a LOSER in supporting the cause you supposedly support in the present. (In the process, you demonstrate ignorance of that actual history, but this thread is not about that.)
Are you doing this because you secretly 'love' the measures and want to support them by way of counterproductive opposition? I think not, but that's the level of rhetoric to which several of you have resorted in responding to those of us who point out the obvious stupidity and inappropriateness of harping on the Nazi 'parallel' instead of just describing what is and, if you want to get historical, the ways in which this present actuality arose.
stickdog, this is totally idiotic and out of line:

I'm not insisting anything. I presented a photo of a yellow star with 'unvaccinated' written on it as a talking point/consideration.
I don't disagree with much of your points above.
As i've mentioned numerous times, and even just last night on the prior page, current global-scale measures are indeed unprecedented and unparalleled in a number of key respects.
But there are rhymes worth raising, at least in this relatively obscure forum.

nine out of ten high profile leftists agree: this new compulsory method of monetizing the human body, in which governments extract MASSIVE profits for the pharma industry directly from citizens by force or coercion, is totally fine and not a big deal and only rednecks oppose it.

If it's on a football forum wouldn't it be better to replace it with "manager"? Reminds me of Ars Technica in the Before Times when Trump had just won the election. Any mention of "Crooked Hillary" or "Killary" would be replaced with something like: "I'm still obsessing over the losing candidate for no apparent reason".

All I can say is that I envy all of you who live in locations in which you do not have to produce your smartphone, government controlled QR code proof of your largely useless vaccination (and soon enough, booster) status to gain admission to any indoor restaurants, bars, sporting events, or music venues.
But I have bad news for you all, They are coming for all of you next. And they aren't going to stop at restaurants, bars, sporting events, or music venues as long as you keep thinking of incipient manifestations of Big Tech, Big Pharma, and Big Brother dystopia as eminently reasonable "mitigation measures." Wake the fuck up!

Re: Coronavirus Crisis: Main Thread
It isn't a social credit system. It is a new set of powers to self issue warrants to hack peoples computers and delete, add, or modify data on them. This includes social media accounts, but is broader.
The social credit system would be better, in that at least people would have the choice to post what they like in exchange for losing social credit. This law means the feds can hack your computer without a judge signed warrant, put whatever they like on it, and then bring charges against you for who knows what.
I would prefer to have poor social credit than to be labelled a peadophile.
