There was one left:

Let the purges begin!

Eventually we'll all think alike!
The purges have already begun and the groupthink is firmly locked in place. I don't like internet fighting and so have been trying to keep my mouth shut, but it's just too disheartening to read the threads around here lately. Vicious invective and ad hominem at every click, not to mention pack mentality coupled with a furiously enforced hivemind.

I once thought this was a place where nothing was off limits and rational discussion generally prevailed, even in cases of passionate disagreement. Isn't that what people came here for--discussion about far out shit? But it most certainly is not the case anymore. Appeal to ridicule is the order of the day, the more acidic the better. The little Torquemadas are on top. The repugnant bleetings of Nordic, Orz, MacCruiskeen and ProfessorPan stand out in my mind, but when the chips were down it seems as though nearly every single poster has gleefully joined the horde (with the exception of the excoriated heretics, of course).

What a bummer. I'm basically just a lurker so it's not like I'll be missed, but for the record I'm not a stormfronter, cointelpro, a sockpuppet, or part of any kind of concerted effort. Just a person with a computer. (I am American, though--perhaps that's just as bad?)

You're all agents--Ban me. See you in hell.
Self-purges are the new hot thing?

Of the old(ish) posters, I used to look out for the posts of:

AnnaLivia
Antiaristo
philipacentaur
EiA
sw
dbeach
Qutb
robertdreed
biaothanatoi
homeless halo
chigger
Corvidaerex
Gouda
Smiths
ProfPan

and I am sure there are more.

I also liked the posts of tKL (sorry blanc), WR (who's not around enough anymore) and others.

I thought Dragon Feathers Jack was funny, as was THE ONION, and Nemo...

These days I like barracuda's posts plus c2w (not that I understand half of what she says given the density of her prose - but I'm sure it's all dead clever and stuff), 8bitagent, penguin and orz (who cracks me up) but this isn't a 'tribute to the living' thread so I'll stop there.

Kthx,

Telexx

Pedant #1: How, specfically, should I do that.

Me: FFS! Aiiieee. I don't care. Kthx.

Beeline, the marmot signed off on this thread but gave no rhyme or reason, just a fig.

I got the impression it was because a number of people were suggesting that cops are sometimes guilty of gross incompetence in the form of unprovoked violence.

I thought marmot left because of a thread about Christians, which I can't find now... He posted a hell of a thing complete with supporting Bible verses. Then when the post was challenged he left. I felt a bit bad cause I'd used stronger language than was strictly necessary.

You mustn't think that, stefano. I am absolutely certain that it wasn't you.

And reasonably certain that we're toasting a banned or disappeared username in this case, not a banned or disappeared poster. Or as reasonably as one can be certain about something that's inherently unascertainable, anyway.
