Yes, and why not, exactly? It is a complicated dance routine. And who knows how things will change as we progress further into the Deranged Era. Will Trump request his extradition after having praised Wikileaks? Will Democrats and other US Liberals protest against Assange's extradition now that they have come out as fans of the CIA and the rest of "the intelligence community"? They've tied themselves in a very knotty knot.
The Soul of a Liberal
If he goes to Sweden, the US can request his extradition from there. The Swedish government will make themselves very unpopular in Sweden if they accede to such a request, but it might well be a "request" they cannot deny.
The big difference between Assange and Manning is that Manning is one individual, now apparently broken, while Assange is the public face of a globally-distributed anonymous organisation that is still actively hacking.

Assange's original offer used the phrase "clemency."
Damn, it's horrible. Wait now for Assange to called a coward and a liar if he doesn't doesn't walk willingly into the arena.
And Obama did grant Manning clemency so I guess Assange has an obligation to pony up.
If he did make that offer and he doesn't show up then that is cowardly and dishonest.
Like the countries he spies on and for.
But he's probably on a plane next week anyways to attend the inauguration to get his just rewards in "the arena".
A 3 Doors Down concert!
Until then Assange, we are here without you baby.

So brekin wants to see Julian Assange deported to the USA (where he would presumably be given a life sentence in a Supermax™ prison). Good to have that on the record. Hard to know what the quality of the music at Trump's inauguration has to with any of this, though.
Anyway, and inevitably, Time Magazine is already baying for the blood of both Assange and Snowden. Big, salivating, banner headline:
WikiLeaks Said Julian Assange Would Agree to Extradition If Chelsea Manning Was Granted Clemency

More like he would be given a sentence as Trump's Secretary of Agriculture.
Or some yet undefined position, Minister of Truth perhaps.
I joke.
But every joke has a kernel of truth.
This kernel is just GMO mutant Inca corn size.

I didn't bother to look, but I heard friends talking about how various centipede hovels were expressing cognitive dissonance about this Manning news.
In what ways could Trump fuck this up?

I certainly give way more of a fuck about Wikileaks than about Assange the person.

What's a "centipede hovel", Luther?

The main cognitive dissonance will be among the Democrats and other Liberals who have affected to support Assange for so long and who have now, since Trump's election, fallen back in love with the CIA, "the intelligence community", and the National Security State.

^ To many of them already, Assange is now just that 'rapist' who got Trump elected. Just look at Twitter some time (or don't). It's truly incredible..
Re: So Is Obummer Going To Pardon Manning Or What?
...
The charge has been raised, first in the Middle Eastern and European press and now in the US, that in 1980 while Jimmy Carter was frantically negotiating for an early release of American hostages in Iran, members of the Ronald Reagan campaign staff made the Ayatollah Khomeini an offer he couldn't refuse—badly needed US arms and spare parts for his war with Iraq if he kept the US Embassy hostages in Tehran until after election day.
...
Obama frees Manning, Assange comes to US to face charges under Trump who goes easy on him.
Then Wikileaks, InfoWars, etc.(The Limited Hangout Network) will all work in concert with Trump & Co. to keep pumping out the alternative rock that is really just the same old corporate rock.
"Hey, man, is that freedom rock?"
"Yeah, man!"
"Well, turn it up, man!"
I'm actually starting to worry for Assange now.
He potentially knows too much on both ends of the Evil Empire.
He may in the end get a promotion like the Founder of his network.
