Radio Birdman singing "New Race" not long before they split up.

No Ron Asheton there, but they (well 3 of em) went on to form "New Race" with him, and Graham Thomson from MC5 a few years later.

I think they only played in Australia for about 6 months in 1980.

They would have been a band to see. I'm a little young for them, but I grew up watching everyone from Radio birdman (cept Dennis Tek) playing in a variety of bands from Melbourne and Sydney.

have heard some "New Race" live, and I did have the only record they put out, its probably still at my parents place.

Dunno how many people know Ron Asheton was in New Race, but he certainly got around, and played some great music.

Sounds of Ordinary Madness.

A compilation of (mostly) Richmond -core bands from the early 90s.

Christbait, Magnacite, Blood Duster, Damaged, Bean Flipper, Subversion, Necrotomy, Warpspasm, Grope, Tutti Parza, Mullgrinder and Hate Factory, which was a one off with members of Christbait and Fear Factory. (I think).

I think Blood Duster are the only band still around out of that lot.

And I'm not listening to it tho I wish I was:

God - My Pal

(If anyone knows how to get your computer to play sound on flash videos, cos they are all silent now - help)

That songs over 20 years old, but I managed to track down a torrent today. It was on the soundtrack to the Australian tv show Underbelly, if anyone's interested.

Its also on a record called "Also used and recommended by", a compilation from melbourne communtiy radio station 3 RRR. That compilation also has a song called this town by a band called the everys. I found a copy of their CD Everyone today at a library in South Australia.

This town contains the lines

"Well I finally met an American
Who said he voted Reagan in
He said he won't do it again
if the world lasts that long."

Anyway right now I'm listening to the Triffids

Fairytale love and Too hot to move Too hot to think from album

Perelandra those guys were 15 or 16 when they formed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GOD_(band)]GOD and not much older, a couple of months, when they wrote that song. The guys in the band went on to form or play in a host of great late 80s melb punk bands.

Bands like the legendry and awesome Bored, Hoss, the Powder Monkeys.

I have a feeling I may have been at their last gig, but those days are such a blur. And I would have seen GOD a few times over that year.

2 of them are dead now.

ODed

What a fucken waste.

Anyway

The drones
The saints
Soundgarden
Leonard Cohen - the window.
