I will admit that Sheen's support of Central American issues in the '80s made him special to me for a little while because it was my area of academic study and I felt very strongly about the issue of US intervention but that was an era when everything was much simpler and one could still have heroes...But I guess it was the '90s that finally killed all that so that now, not only is Ian MacKaye responsible for the takeover of the Reptilians but, oh yeah, everything you know is WRONG...just like you had been saying for years...

Martin Sheen's been a well respected actor/activist for decades. He's remembered by those close to Mitch Snyder in the mid 1980's as particularly present in Snyder's cause célèbre project to shelter Washington's homeless. The campaign drew a number of Hollywood film stars, most of them genuinely interested (though one actor, w/a birth year of 1938, was a disingenuous asshole). But Sheen was dedicated and hard working--of course, he may have just been scouting the homeless population for vulnerable children He starred as Snyder in a very forgettable t.v. biopic, but his performance wasn't so much faulty as was the task to convey Snyder's larger-than-life personality. (Sheen's best performance, imo, was as the psychopathic killer who seduces and recruits an under-age pre-psychopathic girl in 'Badlands'. )

I don't think it is M. Sheen either. I hope it isn't him either. But, I don't think there is anything to say in general that a nice, liberal, activist celebrity couldn't be capable of such a thing. If you look at Jimmy Savile and Bill Cosby both were very involved in charity causes (political not so much). Both might have done so out of enormous guilt management, image control or preemptive reputation reframing. Those most active might have more to hide even. (Also, M. Sheen "produced" Charlie Sheen. I mean, Charlie could be a family outlier who through his own impetus of drinking the tiger milk of Hollywood became what he is, but sometimes someone acting out so dangerously is trying to bury demons. But again, not much to go on.)

Hollywood LOSES money on many of its most hyped productions nowadays - just as outlets like the Guardian do.

Obviously the "industry" performs a variety of functions that satisfy investors, regardless.

I'd say some, not many. They take a lot of risks to try to get blockbusters all the time and achieve on massive scales, especially when you add in all the connected merchandising. Stuff like that Fantastic Four that bombed and Suicide Squad just got green-lit because "hey! superheroes!"

A producer or director has been called out before (as earlier posts in this thread indicate - Harvey Weinstein, Steven Spielberg, Rob Reiner, etc), but whoever was leaked yesterday is an actor, a kingpin, and "revered." Nordic probably knows way more about this but blind items tend to give clues and those two words stuck out at me.

Guruilla, the statute of limitations in California is such that Corey Feldman would be destroyed if he were to speak up.

Actor Corey Feldman - who announced a $10 million fundraising campaign on Oct. 25 for a purported documentary meant to expose Hollywood pedophilia - will be kicking off a national TV tour on Monday with back-to-back sit-downs on NBC's Today show with Matt Lauer and Megyn Kelly.

Spurred by a new spotlight on the intersection of sexual assault and power in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein allegations, Feldman, 46, already has brought in more than $140,000 from over 3,000 backers. He's been assisted by an emotional YouTube promotional video in which he discusses his wish to finally identify entertainment industry predators while explaining how his public comments on the subject in recent years have hurt his professional and personal life.

Feldman's would-be whistleblowing isn't sitting well, however, with Judy Haim. The mother of late actor Corey Haim - Feldman's starring cast mate in a slew of 1980s films and, according to his 2013 memoir Coreyography, a fellow sex abuse victim during their Hollywood youth - believes it's a bogus exercise.

"He's been talking about revealing the names of his and other abusers for seven years, since my son died," says Judy, who has tangled with Feldman in the past about his contention that Haim, who died in 2010 at 38 of pneumonia, was repeatedly abused as a child by multiple individuals. (She's convinced that a molestation incident involving her son occurred on a single occasion, at the hands of one man.) "Now he wants $10 million to do it? Come on. It's a long con. He's a scam artist. If he was serious about this, he'd share the information he has with the police."

She adds that her understanding of the overall situation, gleaned over time, is that there is no all-powerful pedophilic ring at the studio level to uncover, despite Feldman's hype, but likely rather a series of isolated incidents involving much lower-level individuals, often linked to film set relationships. "It's disrespectful to sexual assault survivors and their loved ones in and out of the industry to get their hopes up about uncovering a massive conspiracy, because he will not name names - ever," Judy adds. "And if these people really are out there, and potentially [still] a danger, why wouldn't he want to name them right now?"

Judy believes the timing of the IndieGoGo campaign, shortly after a Louisiana drug bust Feldman has described as a "shakedown" and the accompanying breakup of his band a week ago, should be clear clues as to his motivation. "I don't understand how the press that's now giving him all of this attention isn't getting it," she says. "It's all a distraction."

Samantha Waranch, Feldman's publicist, counters that the campaign is moving forward now in response to a groundswell of grassroots interest from her client's supporters, and that the financial goal of the project will allow it to retain necessary editorial and distribution independence. She also underscores Feldman's adamant belief that his recent arrest was potentially part of a plot to silence his outspokenness - "they were trying to keep him from talking or ruin his credibility, and he knows that many of his fans think that too - and notes that a portion of the money raised will go toward protecting him during what he sees as a troubled time of prospective truth-telling.
"He legitimately fears for his life," she says. "He has armed security with him right now."
