I can't remember if this has been posted already.<br><br><!--EZCODE QUOTE START--><blockquote><strong><em>Quote:</em></strong><hr>Instead of concentrating on plot elements in an attempt to dissect what the author of the original story was trying to get across to his readers, I will concentrate on the symbolism that is found in this film, as there is certainly enough of that to keep both you and I busy for awhile. This symbolism is so important to the understanding of how these people in the Illuminati operate, and since there are questionable aspects to Mr. Kubrick’s sudden tragic death, this a story that needs to be told. <hr></blockquote><!--EZCODE QUOTE END--><br><!--EZCODE AUTOLINK START--><a href="http://kentroversypapers.blogspot.com/2006/03/eyes-wide-shut-occult-symbolism.html">kentroversypapers.blogspo...olism.html</a><!--EZCODE AUTOLINK END--> <p></p><i></i>

American Beauty & EWS

Finally got around to watching "American Beauty" for the first time ever the other night. An excellent film, very well done, but did not think of any connection to Kubrick until the final credits. At the end of the thank-yous is a credit thanking "Dr. Bill and Alice".<br><br>Once I thought about it, though, they do share many similar themes -- mid-life crisis, infidelty, oh yes, and sex offered by underage girls...<br><br>Funny thing is, both movies were released in 1999. Coincidence?<br><br>Darn, now I'll have to watch both of them again!<br><br>Jay <p></p><i></i>

K-Punk on EWS
Eyes Wide Shut is very clear-eyed about the way in which power always contains two aspects, simultaneously: excessive mystagogic staging and banal normalization are two sides of the same coin.
Gregory Bateson, Deleuze-Guattari and Burroughs have all analysed the role of the double bind - the issuing simultaneous contradictory but complementary commands - in systems of control. Zeigler's implicit and explicit communications with Bill is full of such double binds:

Dang Sweejak, that series is almost as epic as this thread. Just finished part 2, hope to get to the rest soon. Whew.

I've been sick in bed, took a nap and dreamt I was on a cargo plane dropping emergency supplies; hand mirrors, cases of hand mirrors, mirrors on parachutes, a sky full of mirrors.

Curiously, Kubrick's "Napoleon" screenplay shares many similarities -- even some duplicate scenes (!) -- with his final film, "Eyes Wide Shut."

Blogger Mystery Man has done a fine job adding information to the Napoleon script; photos, paintings and clips from "Barry Lyndon", "Paths of Glory", and Sofia Coppola's "Antoinette".

not sure if anyone has made this connection before on this thread, but:
the orgy scene in EWS takes place at Mentmore towers.
people have pointed out the use of the Hindu sacred text, the Gita in the music used in the orgy scene.
so:
Mentmore Towers was built in 1855 for Baron Meyer Amschel de Rothschild.
He commissioned Sir Joseph Paxton and his future son-in-law G H Stokes to design the house. Although Paxton was not a trained architect he was a great favourite of the Rothschild family who were probably impressed by the Crystal Palace he built for the Great Exhibition of 1851 and his work at Chatsworth.
Paxton designed a vast building in Elizabethan style with great windows and a turreted roofline. The grand romantic mansion was a reflection of the immense wealth and power of the Rothchilds during the Victorian era.
At the end of the 19th century Mentmore Towers passed into the hands of Lord Rosebery. At that time the house contained a superb collection of fine furniture and works of art. Lord Rosebery made the house a magnificent centre of social life for the rich and influential.
In the 1970s the contents of the house were put up for sale. Although there was a public outcry at the possible loss to the nation of many important items, the auction went ahead and raised over £6,000,000.
The house was sold later to the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and is now the headquarters of his University of Natural Law. http://www.touruk.co.uk/houses/housebucks_ment.htm
