When the body suffers a severe blood loss it autonomically slows blood to the extremities in order to keep your most vital to life organs oxygenated and functioning.
So why is it better to keep the severed extremity well below rather than above the heart? I'm just curious as to how this works. Does gravity help clotting? Or does the human body work harder to slow bleeding against the force of gravity than with it? Again, I am just curious. I am not a medical expert.
