Well if you're gonna come straight out and suggest Bill's the unsung messiah as I did I figure you have to at least try and find parallels.
I went looking for a miracle, this is as close as I got, the miracle being he lived.
Why do people laugh? Laughter is an instinctive bray that releases tension essentually.
You work backwards from there to work out 'why' you laugh.
Tension is created within some narrative, visual or verbal or written and usually designed release points are put as a sort of comic punctuation to bleed off the tension. You can bleed it all out or using timing you can cut it short storing some as background, it's a technical business comedy with lots of variation but the tension and the release are the two prime elements in laughters construction.

Do we need to wait another 10 years before people can laugh at a Cheney-calling-the-MIHOP-shots-while-Bush-bumbles-about-the-country schtick over drinks in a nightclub? Could we well-informed, better-grounded conspiracists be doing this now, in Hicks' honor? Or was it a time-and-a-place thing which took advantage of a certain level of pre-web cultural innocence?
David Cross gets into a little 911 stuff IIRC, on 2002's "Shut Up, You Fucking Baby! " and the more recent one.
remember the timing of 1993's "No Cure for Cancer" album by Denis Leary, I wonder if there was any relation there?
wtf ever became of him? Is he as big a dirt bag as the other Denis? Miller?

That album spawned the joke:
Q: Why did Dennis Leary become famous while Bill Hicks didn't?
A: Because there's no cure for cancer.
Anyway, Dennis Leary has a tv show, Rescue Me, about fire fighters that has a 9/11 truther on the cast and the show even throws 9/11 truth into the story line:
The character Franco, played by Daniel Sunjata, persists that 9/11 was an "inside job" all throughout season 5. Daniel Sunjata subscribes to these same beliefs in real life. On September 22, 2009, the Loose Change 9/11 video is being redone and will be narrated by Sunjata.

This, by the way, makes me want to start a donation campaign. The world can do better than this for Bill, can't it?

It is sort of pathetic. What's up with the deformed star?
There used to be a vase stuck in that hole in the marker.
No doubt it is being used as a vessel for fermented beverages, a use which I imagine Hicks would approve.
The McLeod Magnolia Cemetery sign looks like it has been used for target practice with a shotgun. From what I gather Hicks was not overly fond of gun toting rednecks.

btw winsomecowboy2, I really enjoyed that interview with Hicks. It gave me a different perspective on the man. I found that more entertaining than a lot of his stand up. I guess I find his on-the-edge-of-losing-it-rage discomfitting, but that's because I feel it myself.
the tension and the release are the two prime elements in laughters construction.
Those a prerequisite conditions for a decent orgasm as well, not to mention lots of other things, like drama.

the vase turns and locks into the marker, and turns and unlocks and goes inside, upside down as seen in the previous image. The integrated vases are placed inside the marker when it's time to mow.

Strikes me [only half seriously] that they're all ejaculartory in their own ways.

I highly, highly, recommend the book that Kevin Booth wrote about Bill. It's a huge work that covers his whole life.
Of particular interest to RI readers the book goes over the "actual" encounters with UFOs that Bill experienced (i.e. wasn't just a joke in his act).

Whoa, seriously? Care to give us a few hints about that, elaborate somewhat?
Please?

Hicks immediately started talking about the experience in his act. Booth didn't think it was an appropriate thing to admit in public. "Bill would go out there on stage and say 'Me and my friend were up on a spaceship,' and I wouldn't like him talking about it. I thought it kind of demeaned the trip, like we were trying to brag about it." After his friend's death, Booth reconsidered: "It wasn't until Bill died that I realized that it was dumb and insecure of me not to want to tell people about that moment we had shared. I should have talked to him about it more."

Yes, and also I remember reading that one night he was in bed with his girlfriend and he felt compelled to get up and go to a certain point in a nearby forest to meet a UFO he was sure was coming to get him.

Bumping this Austin-related thread before it gets buried too deep amidst the rubble down the street.
Any clips of his bit about the experience?

I'm proud to say my friend Greg Bishop wrote that article for my local publication AUSTIN PARA TIMES:

Alex Jones is alright but he couldn't carry Bill Hick's jockstrap.
