The biggest threat to the health of this forum isn't government trolls, it isn't the NSA, the FBI, Gilad Atzmon, the National Anarchists or game-playing newcomers; the biggest threat to this forum is the poison being passed around right here by longstanding members. One indisputable result -- just so far -- has been driving out Wombaticus Rex, whose wisdom, if you will look back, was shining through this crap like a laser beam. Thanks a lot, dickheads.

Comedy break:
What if Greenwald is still holding onto another bombshell..... Keyword Hijacking, HMW like. Seriously, Hugh has to be writing about this story somewhere.
Sigh... can we start another thread on this topic?

This is one of the most important topics I have ever seen here.
No matter how much we all believed it was true, confirmation is... ___________?
From the comments at Firstlook:
"All I’m doing now is looking at these comments – with their gray silhouette avatars – wondering which ones are the feds"
Haven't found Hugh in that huge comments section yet.

Well said. I spend too much time lately just shaking my head. Social justice... what a laugh! Anti-facist... what a knee-slapper! Supposedly concerned, empathetic, and well intentioned people actually take time out of their day just to tell others they've known for years what horrible people they are. I used to scoff at the idea that groups under siege splinter and turn on each other. Oh, was so naive. The common enemy thing doesn't play out at certain scales and pressure points, apparently.Elvis » 27 Feb 2014 18:56 wrote:The biggest threat to the health of this forum isn't government trolls, it isn't the NSA, the FBI, Gilad Atzmon, the National Anarchists or game-playing newcomers; the biggest threat to this forum is the poison being passed around right here by longstanding members. I may be a mod, but I ain't your momma, and I don't have 8 eyes in the back of my head. If it's impossible to be kind to one another here, then what hope is there for the rest of the world? Maybe it's all a foregone conclusion...

It seems that context drives both understanding and mis-understanding.
And also because your follow on sentence seemed to reference a line written by me on another thread a short while before.
You put ‘Crazy man’ in quotes so no problem there, and I don’t see why you would think I have a problem with that other than that it feeds into your perception that some folk round these parts are oversensitive.

Your sentence; ‘but in the end got sick of it and was harrassed into silence anyway’, is another example of you telling us what another person thinks. I do not think you are as well qualified for this as you seem to think.
This was my last exchange with C2W? I love her and wish her all the best in her new endeavors.

OK then, I apologize for my mis-understanding. I did however not declare you a hater of man, I improperly applied a quote snippit; ‘people I hate’. Due to an over fast reading combined with my perception about your extreme contempt towards, a number of posters here, as evidenced in your three paragraph strawman extravaganza from the day before.Sounder has declared me into a hater of man, on the basis of a clear misreading of what I wrote. How about a correction, for the goodwill and all?

I very much regret that C2W? has left this board because she is a person, from my POV at any rate, committed to the marriage of eros and ego or the gut and the head. Happily enough C2W? knows what I think about her, and what you think I think (about her or anyone else), that is just more baggage for you.Anyway, it's very easy to make low-information types angry by being too rough in exposing their fallacies. c2w? used to do it in a much nicer way, but in the end got sick of it and was harrassed into silence anyway.

I see people I have respected acting like assholes, people who once contributed a wide range of stuff become paranoid monomaniac, others throwing acid like it is a custard pie. Sometimes I think this is by design, this is a fucking takedown of this board and then I think WTF? Is this now my best? Worrying about a forum of people I have never heard or seen in real life? Who dont even know my name?
I feel like the place is a rudderless becalmed ship and I'm shouting Let's get MOVING - we cant stay this way! but my response has been 'if you dont like it, get out".
It really is reminding me of Lord of The Flies.

Now, can we talk about the OP? I count on this community to process things like this while I'm not online. You're all supposed to have everything collated and analyzed when I log on.
Has everyone looked through the 50 page power point presentation?

I'd love it if people could put less time into hand-wringing about impolite language or interpretations of my tone and show more respect for actual discourse -- which includes the ability to read what is said, look at evidence, understand logic, delimit the questions being asked and not use other issues to distract, and, above all, to recognize when one's own bullshit has been exposed as such and to revise oneself accordingly, rather than digging in and attacking the one who exposed you.
I think this is an incredibly important thread -- probably the most important issue ever, in a sense, for any Internet board -- but I don't forget easily and I've got a problem with it being started and titled provocatively by the same guy who five minutes ago was running the anti-Greenwald smear campaign on this board. If this person had the ability to recognize that, and apologize, but of course when asked to do so he has only doubled down with the attacks on me, always highly personalized (and of course these might be very hurtful to me if they bore any relation to my actual life, but they're just projections of this person's own problems).
I'm also not the one who has turned my use of a common English idiom -- drop dead, basically -- into a four-week issue, while it doesn't seem to matter that this was directed at someone who's been flooding the board with crypto-Nazi bullshit for years and always getting away with the "aw shucks" excuse.

With all due respect, and acknowledging modding is a thankless, horribly messy job, Jack Riddler should have been banned for his comment earlier regarding "go kill yourself" and most, if not all of this would have been prevented. And if not then, definitely when he started the all so obvious "Kill Yourself" meta thread. Even if it was retroactively enforced a couple of days later after the fact. I'm not campaigning for it now but in my eyes RI's moral credit rating slipped when no action was taken on that. What I've learned is standards become meaningless when they apply differently to different folks based on seniority and other grey factors. And really for most people when people get a way with their naughtiness it only emboldens them, as JR's perplexing meanie behavior continued after he dodged the ban hammer on the above cases.Project Willow » Fri Feb 28, 2014 2:24 am wrote:Elvis » 27 Feb 2014 18:56 wrote:The biggest threat to the health of this forum isn't government trolls, it isn't the NSA, the FBI, Gilad Atzmon, the National Anarchists or game-playing newcomers; the biggest threat to this forum is the poison being passed around right here by longstanding members. I have always appreciated JR's viewpoints and content but I wouldn't have hesitated to have banned him for a couple of days to weeks on it. Generalizing and abstracting his naughtiness I don't think helps the situation. He fucked up, created a shit storm which he rebooted a few times. Even if he is the Donny Osmond of R.I. he should have been put in the hole to cool out.
