The enormous problem with regulation

If the state allows people to do whatever they want (laissez-faire) you’ll get Andrew Tate trafficking women, trade in human organs, child labor, slavery (or even, wages below the cost of keeping a slave), and a f*ckton of pollution.

You’ll also get iPhones, Teslas, Netflix, and Google.

Some people are fine with that trade. But the rest of us believe that we can and must mitigate the dark side of the market.

So over time the state is encouraged to step in to regulate the market by setting up institutions like the FDA, CDC, the Department of Labor/Occupational Safety and Health Administration, etc. But almost instantly those agencies become captured by the industries they were supposed to regulate.

During the current crisis, the FDA, CDC, and DOL/OSHA are engaged in genocide against the America people — an outcome much worse than having no regulation at all.

That’s the dilemma we face. Some amount of regulation seems good and necessary. But that creates a slippery slope and soon the regulatory agencies are worse than nothing. Is there a higher synthesis that avoids this catastrophic trade-off?

The San Francisco Police Department created the problem of out of control petty crime by not prosecuting any burglars or robbers and by allowing huge stolen goods fencing outlets to operate in with the knowledge of basically everyone on SF's streets.

Now the WEF has come to rescue with their ingenious solution of surveilling all innocent drivers!

"That was bonkers to me," Mark Rober told us. "Like you publicly outed this as a fencing operation a month and a half ago. And it's still being used as a fencing operation."
