You're not retarded, just out there, man. Anyway, Kolchak: The Night Stalker starring Darren McGavin will always be cooler than X-Files.theeKultleeder wrote:That seriously never occurred to you?
Seriously 4B, I always thought it meant "the truth of the matter is available if you look."
Maybe I'm retarded.

'Being There.'
The truth is in the links I put up. If you're interested.
It is bigger than what is entertaining or 'cool.'
Life and death, for instance.

Thank you, oh Great Arbiter of Truth. Jerzy Kosiński is an amazing author who taught me quite a bit about being human, and how war fits into that, especially in The Painted Bird. You, on the other hand, have managed to aggravate the hell out of me.Hugh Manatee Wins wrote:'Being There.'

you know, when I go to the movies, I don't get upset when people are talking through the previews. But once the movie starts, that is the time to focus.
The feature attraction starts on Thursday.
until then, blah blah about anything you want...

I hope you're not blaming this on me, but I apologize for my part in it.IanEye wrote:philipacentaur wrote: Jerzy Kosiński is an amazing author who taught me quite a bit about being human, and how war fits into that, especially in The Painted Bird. At the risk of facilitating the further derailment of this conversation, I can't let this gem pass without comment:
Yet you propose that the film "Nacho Libre" was a sophisticated psyop to keep those same kids from learning about a Mexican peasant leader named Nacho.
You can't have it both ways, Hugh. And right here, once again, you've shown a glaring logical hole in your "keyword hijacking" nonsense.
.The American kids Lucas made 'Star Wars' for don't know regions of Tunisia.
They hardly can find the USA on a map

no problem, really Phil.
i mean it, in my mind's eye i sort of saw this thread going this way. Once people have taken the time to see the film I am sure a stimulating discussion will unfold.
To be honest, so far i am intrigued by what Hugh is not saying about "Being There", as opposed to what he is saying.....

I've never seen more than a few scenes from Being There, but a copy of it is around here somewhere and thanks to you, I have a newfound impetus to watch it front-to-back. I just didn't understand why you (seemingly) singled me out -- whatever though. You're a bit more optimistic than I about the discussion that might unfold, and I admire that.IanEye wrote:no problem, really Phil.

oh, sorry Phil. I guess I was singling out the quote which could have come from anybody. The way you showed your appreciation for the art of Kosinski and in the same breath your annoyance for Wins. I was just trying to say I am not annoyed myself, because so far, people are only off topic jabbering during the previews.
Perhaps I am being Pollyanna-ish, but I think people will like the film on many levels and want to talk about it here at RI.
