^^I thought the article was a load of horseshit to be honest. Just an endless series of vague connections and insinuations. Bill Gates cooperated with IBM, and IBM cooperated with the Nazis! Vaccines is the big money maker (not even in the top 10) and probably a bioweapons program, "climate change" (note the square quotes), etc.
The few interesting things drown in the word diarrhea and dishonest word association games.

She has a new book out about American politics (Oneness vs. the 1%), a relatively new subject for her to comment on, in which she catalogues all the ways in which Gates uses his charities to open up markets for his monopolistic businesses. I haven't read it, but I don't need to be convinced. She talks a lot about Bezos too. Warren Buffet is handing over most of his nonprofit tax avoidance projects to Gates now, last time I checked. Vaccine good/bad debate aside, I think a lot of people would agree that the guy who is the most prominent promoter of transgenic foods around the world should not be the one in charge of vaccination policy. It could be done in a more cautious, less arrogant way. I am not a fan of genetic manipulation by any technological means other than natural plant breeding, but the transgenic food crops (poison producing genes shoved into plants) that Gates and Monsanto/Bayer promote really give a bad reputation to some more responsible genetic manipulation that could hypothetically happen. The dude is a power hungry psycho with delusions of grandeur.DrEvil wrote:^^I thought the article was a load of horseshit to be honest. Just an endless series of vague connections and insinuations. Here is a better interview with Vandana Shiva:
Gates invests in private prisons in the UK, nuclear power, and spraying shit in the atmosphere to block out the sun. The last two mean that he is literally becoming Mr. Burns from the Simpsons incarnate.

This was priceless:
Bill Gates: Well the first step to solving the problem is diagnostics, an then we would do therapeutics, and then the final solution would be vaccines.
Stephen Colbert: Well, maybe we shouldn't make it so easy for the conspiracy theorists by calling it the final solution.
Bill Gates: Oh, yeah. Ha ha ha ha...

Re: Bill Gates is Seriously Dangerous
Rodin always called the sculpture The Poet. The poet is sitting above the gates of the inferno at the beginning of the poem. Surrounded by his vision, within it.The Thinker is usually seen in isolation. Alone his meditative posture suggests something positive. It elicits our sympathy for calm reflection, if not intellect. But the naked man seated in contemplation must be seen in the context of Auguste Rodin’s entire work, a massive set of doors. Rodin was inspired by Dante Alighieri’s monumental poem. The Divine Comedy is composed of three parts, Paradiso, Purgatorio and, of course, Inferno; i.e., Hell. The massive work into which Rodin put his Thinker was just over the entrance to the first circle. He called his sculpture The Gates of Hell.
Kind of puts the sculpture in a different light, doesn't it?
Both his words and manner of speech seemed at first totally unfamiliar to me, and yet somehow they stirred memories - as an actor might be stirred by the forgotten lines of some role he had played far away and long ago.

I was referring to the T.P. Wilkinson article, not the Vandana Shiva video. Don't get me wrong, I dislike Gates as much as the next guy, I just thought the article was really bad.undead » Sun Apr 26, 2020 3:59 am wrote:She has a new book out about American politics (Oneness vs. the 1%), a relatively new subject for her to comment on, in which she catalogues all the ways in which Gates uses his charities to open up markets for his monopolistic businesses. I see, previous page. I do not have time to read that article, way too long. I skimmed some of it, down to "Gates is not a health expert". This is definitely true, and it is a major phenomenon of male geeks in general, PHDs, and specialist doctors. Almost always men but there are some exceptions I've met. People become an expert in a specific subject and get an inflated ego, and think that their expertise carries over into all subjects. Graduate and medical school is like an intellectual version of going through boot camp that is traumatic, and they come out of it feeling entitled to act like a superior egomaniac even when it is not appropriate. I've seen some public hearings in which a male engineer asserts that 5G technology is safe for human health, and a woman trained in medicine opposite him has to point out that it is not his field, and he knows nothing about that. Specialist doctors are often woefully uninformed about areas of medicine outside their specialty, and this makes it easy to ignore side effects of the drugs they prescribe.DrEvil wrote: I was referring to the T.P. It's actually a debate what Rodin called it, supposedly he denied that. And whether the figure of the Thinker (which got its name from the cast-iron workers, not Rodin originally) is inside or outside the original tableau. At least, according to Wiki, and I don't think this is one of those political questions where they impose one of their quasi-official editorial lines.dada » Sat Apr 25, 2020 10:53 pm wrote:Rodin always called the sculpture The Poet. Also, it exists, here's the picture, what shall we decide?

(the very first Thinker in context, there are like 150 of them; can't get it to display due to the use of é in a url, so copy/paste)
I did decide this essay was less heavy than on original reading. Good writing and erudition often make a set of thoughts or a would-be grand theory seem weightier than it is.

This I can agree on, minus the traumatized egomaniacs bit.undead » Sun Apr 26, 2020 4:40 pm wrote:I see, previous page. I do not have time to read that article, way too long. Too many people are good at one thing and assume that translates to other areas while missing a ton of nuance because they're not even aware of it. Dunning-Kruger for smart people.

In my experience as a participant-observer, which was in US schools during a certain couple of decades, the trauma generally comes first, shaping the later egomania in many cases.

Every question is political, on wikipedia. Math, science, philosophy, religion, even the arts. Wikipedia is a mindset. A stylistic process.JackRiddler » Sun Apr 26, 2020 1:28 pm wrote:

Anyway, whether we call the sculpture 'poet,' or 'thinker' in solidarity with the cast-iron workers, Dante's poetic vision isn't a metaphor for hell on earth. That would be missing the point.
The poet or thinker is both inside and outside of the poem. Dante is in his poem. A vision within him, and he within his vision.

But we're talking about what Rodin did with the Dante material, and so far I haven't seen that he wanted to explain it. We see the tableaux. It looks to me much more like a metaphor for hell on earth. The poet's not at the gates, he's experiencing it as a vision in his mind from elements he has seen or imagined around him on earth. Maybe you see something different in it.Anyway, whether we call the sculpture 'poet,' or 'thinker' in solidarity with the cast-iron workers, Dante's poetic vision isn't a metaphor for hell on earth. Much more like a metaphor for hell on earth than... what? A metaphor for something else? Something other than a metaphor?JackRiddler » Sun Apr 26, 2020 6:17 pm wrote:

But I don't want to get into a debate about where the poet gets his visions from. Rodin spent years contemplating Dante's poem. Perhaps he was attempting to express the poem in sculpture. A translation, not an explanation.
Let's go with the metaphor hell on earth. Is it a warning, then? (caution: abandon all hope zone ahead) A creative response to emotional reactions, horror, despair? Seems simple. But maybe that's the best we can do when we attempt to understand the mind of the great Rodin.
