Pics from the beginning of the march in NYC today. I got to the starting point at Foley Square at 5:30, an hour after the march started, and you can see there are tons of people that haven't even started marching yet.

From there the march turned the corner and just kept going as far as you could see. And at 6:30pm, more than 2 hours after the march started, people were still just beginning to march.

Things still unfolding right now... pretty chaotic. Incredible to watch all the livestreaming. Gotta hand it to the media team.

Oh, and a word of advice, next time anyone decides to march on the Brooklyn Bridge: Bring ninjas!

Both his words and manner of speech seemed at first totally unfamiliar to me, and yet somehow they stirred memories - as an actor might be stirred by the forgotten lines of some role he had played far away and long ago.

Fuck tha police.

Still too many cops, relative to the number of protestors. Solution? More protestors.

Occupy Wall Street Arrests; Fox 5 Crew and Protesters Hit by Mace, Batons

Protest broadens scope

MYFOXNY.COM - The protests on Wall Street continue to grow. The rallies and their participants are showing no signs of slowing down. Wednesday evening, crowds surged past barriers and NYPD officers moved in to contain the protesters. By many accounts, mayhem broke out. Officers swatted protesters with batons and sprayed them with mace, according to video from the scene.

Fox 5 photographer Roy Isen was hit in the eyes by mace, and Fox 5 reporter Dick Brennan was hit by what he believes was an officer's baton.
Both were all right and continued to cover the protests and arrests. Cops arrested dozens of protesters, but the final tally was not known.
Earlier, unions and students joined the demonstrators. What was once a protest of powerful Wall Street financial firms and banks is growing into a larger movement about the working class, employment, poverty, education, and more.

Luke Rudkowski Attacked by Police, Baton to the Gut at #OccupyWallStreet Arrests

Journalist Luke Rudkowski was attacked by Police Wednesday Night while trying to document the Occupy Wall Street arrests in NY. NYPD used pepper spray, batons, and brute force to move protesters away from the entrance to Wall Street after many tried to push through police barricades. Rumors immediately circled that police provocateurs dressed as protesters were to blame for the incident.

Yup, sheer number of weighty, obstructive, noisy, unignorable, injurable bodies. An infinite number of insightful disembodied blogposts will never have the same effect.

All praise to those who are putting themselves on the line.

I left before the cops started playing skull baseball, but what I took part in was enormously awesome.

I hate the overuse of terms like "critical mass," but it really applies in this case. This is only a guess, but I'd say that there were 18 thousand people marching.

The energy was fucking electric. I've never felt more connected to a large group of human beings in my entire life.

As usual, here are some photos, all of which can be linked to from here:

Bruce, I was following the Fox 5 chopper video feed this afternoon and the pilot estimated ~100K for the ground crew. That seemed high but the stream of people covered the entire route with full plazas at either end. Huge.

What great pics dada, Bruce, thanks for sharing! That massive crowd is so heartening to see.

The momentum in Seatown seemed crushed by the arrests this afternoon. Elvis, my friend and I met around 6pm and wandered through the park. The crowd had dwindled down to about 50 people, the majority of whom were attempting a contentious and somewhat bitter general assembly. We came back a few hours later and the mood was better but the crowd was still thin. A couple dozen seemed prepared to stay the night crouching up against storefronts to keep out of the rain. I hope it grows again over the weekend.
