Sorry, Alice, but hava had me convinced that she was seriously considering suicide, too.

Well, yeah, me too. Obviously she was feeling overwhelmed and tempted to just end it. That's why I was so outraged that DE was accusing her of pretending just to get attention, practically calling her a wuss and daring her to do it, otherwise she'd be proving him right.

That is a pretty low-down response to someone in despair, and told me everything about DE I needed to know.

Someone like that, he can take his perspective and shove it. Hard.

A Toast indeed to those Disappeared Posters,

and that's what disturbs me the most about online acquaintances.

Why just disappear?

Is it so hard to let us know where you've gone to?

Don't they know that I care? (I would have said "we" care, but I'm not sure you all do care. I may be the only one afflicted here.)

I'm not just a window on your computer screen, damn it.

Or am I?

Seamus? Where did you go?

Seamus was moving wasn't he? I believe he said he would be without internet access for a while. I believe he will be back.

Or maybe not.

I must admit, that in the past I have disappeared without trace from "internet communities," from the yahoo religion/buddhism/philosophy chat communities, and from online gaming communities. I have never felt a great need to say that I was going. Indeed, rarely do I realise on my last visit that it is such.

The nature of online communities is very ephemeral, transitory.

Having said that, I have been at least reading these boards for maybe four years now, and have no intention of leaving. Sorry bout that. There is always something of interest to read here, and such fascinating and erudite commentators.

miss dbeach
don't miss tkl

hava-DE situation I recall slightly differently. he did attempt to contact help for her close to her, believing her to be in danger, this was interpreted by her as not helpful, both got hurt in the subsequent row, but his intentions at the outset had been good. that's my recall, and he is not here to put it himself.
