Hair is an indicator of health. Long, thick hair on a woman shows that she's well-nourished and therefore a better candidate for procreation. Also, a well-nourished woman (of breeding age) is more likely to be producing pheromones that could help men identify long hair as sexy.

The Tokens and Gene Pitney entered Billboard Hot Hundred the same day with this song. The Tokens won the battle since they reached #61 and Gene Pitney's version only reached #89.

I like the Token's version best, but Pitney's video was a winner...
