The guidelines for posting here are broken on a daily basis, lots of neo-Nazi defenders and sexist commentary. Obvious trolls are allowed to run amuck. The huge pendulum swing from mostly fringe topics to standard political board fare is, I would guess, another reason for departures.
Standard operating procedure on RI is to label anyone who disagrees with the far left position on most things as a neo-Nazi or in cases of feminism, a misogynist. This trite tripe is typical dog whistle political correct crap that feeds the echo chamber. The political ideologues become frantic victims if you challenge their beliefs which appear to be filled with mainstream media garbage info. AD posts a constant stream of anti-male, tantra, meditation, yoga etc vitrole and pretty much refuses to engage. If a jackass was constantly posting endless pages of flyers on telephone poles and grocery store bulletin boards in my neighborhood people would put a stop to the info pollution. At RI it's tolerated. Why?

The format of the board is fucked. This software doesn't help the situ. I don't see that changing even though many have asked over the years to upgrade to some thing more modern that could help. Overall, if Wombat doesn't want to deal with the copy pastanistas they will continue to flourish. People bitched about Hugh and he was run off. The copy pasta is different, but a problem just the same.

I see no reason why some posters shouldn't be forced to take suspensions if they can't control their twitchy hands that spew the pasta. Or at the veery least change their permissions so they can only post in the Data Dump. It's interesting how a few people are treated as sacred cows but the folks who have the balls to stand up and call out the screeching chorus of victim hood are suspended ad nauseous.

See what I mean? Here again we hear how anything "feminist" is the far left position. And over and over repeating the "victim" meme. Those frantic feminazi victims! If only they had the balls!

Oh, wait.

MRA playbook shit pretty much falls under the category of No Sexism.

Well I argue like a woman when it comes to pseudo science doncha know!

When it comes to Mr. Rex's role here, he is doing what he can. He is employed, is a musician and current caretaker of this joint. As far as copy pasta, let it slide. Did you bitch about show and tell in school? I don't read all of it by the members being singled out but there is no harm in what they do and how they do it in my book.

Apropos moderation (and figleafs, and untruths): Why are Dr Volin and Jeff still listed as Moderators? I've asked this question several times now (the last time was yesterday), but you just keep putting it on ignore.
I ignored it because it's a dumb question. If I could change it, it would have been changed.

I don't take your concerns seriously because you're a dick. All your appeals to decency are rhetorical flourishes, you don't care about any of that. You started this thread because it bothers you that AD doesn't have to see your responses to him.

Here's another one: after years of discussing exactly this here at RI - and RI members saying stuff like "actually, I often find his contributions rather interesting" - why are you still posing that as a rhetorical question when it is not?

Er, no. Stop right there. The New RI is already more than rightwing enough. The Old RI was founded and run by a Canadian socialist, and nearly all of the Moderators Jeff chose were women. Those were the best years of this board, not least because they were by far the best Moderators. It used to be one of the glories of this place that women were so numerous and so present here and so unafraid to speak. And not one of them was disingenuous, evasive, smug, insulting, or a bully. Instead, they took care of this place. Changed days indeed.
AD posts a constant stream of anti-male
No, no, no. If I wasn't clear enough already, I want to make it crystal-clear that I am criticizing AD from the left. More precisely, my primary objection here is not even to his pseudo-left, objectively pro-war arguments per se, but to the fact that a) he refuses to defend those arguments (or rather, the arguments of those warmongers he copies-and-pastes here so untiringly), b) that he thereby abuses this Discussion Board persistently as his own private Data Dump(s), and c) - the reason for this thread - that he hides disingenuously behind the ignore function and that WR lets him get away with it.

(If anything was worth spelling out, that was. God forbid that this or any other thread should get hijacked by anyone purveying that "alt"-right Save-the-Males bollocks. The New RI is already rancid with testosterone.)

You mean Nordic on both counts, right? I feel like I should have banned him 2-3 years ago. Not doing so was a mistake.

"screeching chorus of victim hood" -- man, I appreciate the reminder we live on the same planet but tend to inhabit different worlds.

I spent some time going through all the posts, stretching back over years, about what features would improve the board and identified (free) software that can accomodate ALL of those needs. I would be happy to work with Drew / Joao / Wombat to set one up.

It is software designed to provide an academic commons and features Forums, lots of end user control, Wikis, Publishing, user created Groups, User Blogs etc

It is very impressive. I have spent a long time testing it out and actually setting one up. It has a very high pedigree and was created by the City University of New York (C.U.N.Y.) using WordPress / MySql.

It is called Commons In A Box.
http://commonsinabox.org/

Showcases of what it can do:
http://commonsinabox.org/show-case

On a random note..
Jeff Wells is Facebook friends with Henrik Palmgren.
I would say 50% of people here will be outraged and appalled at that... and 50% will laugh.
I'm with the latter.

The fights on the board foreshadowed by *years* some of the Free Thought / Skeptic / Classical Liberal vs Intersectionality / SJW / NeoLib wars in 2016 / 2017.

We were way ahead of the curve.
We were... Contenders.

Yeah, no, Mac. Barracuda I have heard just got gender reassignment, so that may count. You remember him right, right?

I think you missed something, Searcher.

If I understood the bolded bit correctly (it's hard to tell, because acquiring any reliable information at The New RI is like getting blood from a stone), Wombaticus Rex cannot make any changes to the board. It's beyond his powers even to delete Dr Volin's name from the Moderator List more than three years after his departure. So there's presumably no point in you offering to facilitate changes that would be considerably more demanding, technically.

What I still don't understand is how Project Willow managed to get her name removed from the same list when she stopped down long after Dr Volin. Your guess is as good as mine.

I thought JustDrew was the RI SuperTech? Or am I three years out of date?

Quite correct, JustDrew is our trusty Admin.

Me, I didn't even find out who paid for this place until 2017.

I think that is correct. Also, Jeff still is posting as far as that recent sticky he put at the top of GD. So he is monitoring to a degree. He is busy writing "real" stuff. And Drew, I believe is the "Super Tech" still.

So who pays for this place?

That's another question I asked here recently. Presumably it too was "a dumb question".
