The “Occupy” movement, whether displaying itself on Wall Street or in the streets of Oakland (which has, with unspeakable cowardice, embraced it) is anything but an exercise of our blessed First Amendment. “Occupy” is nothing but a pack of louts, thieves, and rapists, an unruly mob, fed by Woodstock-era nostalgia and putrid false righteousness. Pippa Middleton [sister-in-law of Prince Edward] is reported to have accepted a £400,000 offer from the publisher Penquin to write a book about parties, according to a friend quoted in the Mail on Sunday.

‘Penquin stumped up the most cash. It will be about entertaining and how to throw the perfect party. Pippa has been sketching out the chapters and has decided to start each one with an amusing anecdote.’

I don’t know why people are saying times are hard when the sister of the Duchess of Cambridge can get £400,000 for a book about how to throw a party. Although I found it distasteful when it was first mooted – cashing-in and all that – those near and dear to me say I need instruction when it comes to parties.

Apparently, I enjoy my own too much. Perhaps Her Pippaness will include a thought about this. As for her ‘amusing anecdote’ idea, many years ago I was advised by an American friend: ‘An anecdote is merely a joke that has played Carnegie Hall.’

I would have them all shot. I would take them outside and execute them in front of their families. I mean how dare they go on strike when they have these gilt-edged pensions that are going to be guaranteed, while the rest of us have to work for a living?

Clarkson, who reportedly earns around £1m for presenting Top Gear, owns 30% of Bedder 6 and as a result will have collected £479,000 from his share of the company's £1.59m dividend. He also received a £350,000 fee for "payment for services".
