I can't help but feel Obama is being setup, not like he really has much choice in the matter at this point.
Nothing is impossible and I won't fault you for choosing to believe in one person as victim of the monolith. That seems to make it easier for some people. At the end of the day, whether or not he is given the ultimatum "Be a despot or we'll eat your family and torture your soul for eternity" or some shit really doesn't matter. His regime is despotic; there is absolutely no getting around that. Unless, of course, one believes that his really being a sweet guy means there is a chance he will come to his senses and save the world (or, as I think the more standardized version tells it: He has been planning to subvert the Death Star all along, no matter what happens do not lose faith in the Democrat).
Either way, MLK certainly was conciliator as well as instigator (quite Christian, some might say) and, indeed, West is always civil in his righteous indignation. Still, he was was right, in my opinion, to declare his dismay at MLK's legacy being buried beneath all that BS. Somehow I doubt that the president is being forced by the all-powerful evildoers to take things as far as say, using his bible for chrissakes (no, wait, could that be part of his eleven-dimension chess game? We're saved!!). Nevertheless, I don't suppose he could defile the memory of King any more than he did during the Nobel acceptance speech.
But let's be clear: He has always been a power monger. There is plenty in the public record to indicate that his every move--from Harvard, through the streets of Chicago to the Illinois statehouse and the US Senate, to his first presidential campaign--has been rooted in duplicitous opportunism. And he is a Reaganite to boot.
So--considering how long he has been sucking up to heartless big money--if he "has no choice in the matter at this point",
then that point of no choice, as it were, must have taken place long before any of us mere mortals can surmise... oh, dear! You don't suppose the rabid rightwingers are right; he must have had his soul sold at birth at some satanic mass in Kenya!?! But, then, still, it wasn't his fault! IT WASN'T HIS FAULT!! I guess we have to turn to God now. I wonder how that effects the chess match.
