Stupid theories

Postby yathrib » Wed Sep 26, 2007 10:10 am

Any given person would probably find at least *one* of those theories believable, or at least thinkable. I find the faked moon landing theory pretty much inconceivable, and I accept the explanations of such seeming anomalies as the flag that seems to be waving in the wind. But one of my clients, whom I am certain has many, many IQ points on me, says that this is the conspiracy theory he has the fewest problems with.

He thinks that even if the landing itself wasn't faked, the photos might have been, because the authentic photos might not have been that, well, photogenic.

But I would like to know by what twisted logic someone came up with this one:

* Stephen King killed John Lennon

By the same twisted logic that the rest of the shit that gets published here that's how. And it is shit, a big steaming plate of shit that you all take a big heaping spoonful of everyday.

Wipe that grin, you know you love it.

Umm, yeah I got that you were making fun of us and what we ostensibly like to read about. I just don't get your maniacal laughter. I was concerned for you.

There's something important here.

Brownzeroed posted a clip of "F for Fake"

Forget Welles actions as mere pranks. INSTEAD, study them deeply as a way of understanding what Robert Anton Wilson called Chapel Perilous.

I think this should be a requirement for anyone interested in so-called conspiracy, or covert shenanigans, also known as conspiro-tainment.

Seriously. If you don't get things such as "F for Fake" on it's deeper levels then you are sure to be lost in these deep dark waters.

This Jerry Lewis movie, 'The Patsy,' was filmed from January 6–February 28 1964, a mere six weeks after Lee Harvey Oswald claimed to reporters that this was all he was.

And therein lies the rub, dear manatee.

If you knew anything about film production (and you've proved, again and again, that you haven't a clue) you'd realize that any film which began shooting "a mere six weeks after" Oswald's use of the word "patsy," was written FAR in advance of the actual shoot. Jerry Lewis wrote and directed the film, so he would have had to have foreknowledge of the assassination and Oswald's role, and would have been complicit.

Maybe he was hanging around with those other spook puppets and collaborators -- Don Knotts and Bob Denver?

I very much look forward to see how you're going to defend this nonsense example, Hugh. Because, as we've all seen, you never admit you might be wrong.

"Return of the Jedi" was going to be called "Revenge of the Jedi" until it was changed just weeks prior to its release. Your counter-example is admirable, Professor, but remains speculative until someone does some research into the production history of "The Patsy."

No it has to be right! It just has to! Beause it frightens me and confirms my dark world view!!

Don Knotts was the Umbrella Man and Bob Denver was the Radio Man.

It's all so clear now...

And NO, that wasn't directed at you Professor Pan, nor anyone else in particular.

Funny... in a trailer for his mockumentary F is for Fake, Orson Welles did say the WoW broadcast had "secret sponsors". (Daniel Hopsicker)

Is "F is for Fake" a real Orson Welles film? I always assumed Robert Anton Wilson made it up to make a point. But then I assumed the same thing about Fernando Poo, which *is* a real place.

A lot of people start off believing in Moon Hoax then it gets watered down to some convoluted idea like this. I don't get why people need it to be at least a bit fake. I guess it's to try and avoid admitting they were totally wrong... hanging onto at least a little bit of it.

In this case, I don't get why anyone would need to think that the authentic photos would be no good. I mean, it's basically very easy to take good photos of pretty much anything with a little practice. If you're ON THE MOON then your photos are gonna look pretty amazing because they're PHOTOS OF THE MOON!

People who deny the exsistence of conspiracies altogether puzzle me. Did we not learn anything from the Church Commitee report? What about COINTELPRO? Or Watergate? Or Iran/Contra? Or Operation Paperclip? Or MK-ULTRA? Or Tuskegee Institute? Or Operation Gladio? Or the Pentagon Papers?

Oh wait, I know the excuse for that- conspiracy "theories" only have a "kernel" of truth in them, right? Nevermind that arch-psuedoskeptic Michael Shermer said that 9/11 was a conspiracy (his exact words) by Arabs on The Colbert Report. I guess only Arabs would hurt and even kill Americans, OUR government would NEVER do that. I mean yeah, Hitler did it with the PROVEN (even more so than the Reichstag Fire) case of Operation Himmler, but that was Hitler. Wealth and power would NEVER cause our government to do evil things like that. Now let me get my tinfoil hat on so I can think about how that Ahmadinejad guy and his buddy Chavez are going to launch a terrorist attack on us.

Yathrib,

Yes, absolutely, "F for Fake" is a real film. At least in the sense that RAW did not make it up. I've owned a copy for years and was delighted beyond measure when Criterion had the good judgement to release it on DVD.

Yes, Brownzeroed, you're welcome, and I forwarded that link to everyone I know.

But to call it a"mockumentary" is inaccurate and missing the point. "This is Spinal Tap" is a mockumentary. "FfF" is a feint within a feint within a feint.
