Death of Steve Kangas and decoy kangaroo story

Postby Hugh Manatee Wins » Mon Feb 25, 2008 7:14 am

Aw, Joe. Whaddya got for us, 'Pal Joey?'

When investigative journalist, Steve Kangas, died from a gunshot to the head in 1999 there was a funny kangaroos with guns disinfo story sent around the web because of the recent flap over Vince Foster's death online.

Even the WPost had to write minimizing dismissal stories because of the online buzz over Kangas' death. He had been outing Richard Mellon Scaife as a CIA asset and more. And ended up dead in the office building where Scaife had offices.

Kangas' website url included "kangaroo" in it like this-
http://www.huppi.com/kangaroo/L-overclass.html

Reference to the kangaroo disinfo story that was viral marketed as humor can still be found-

Did you know that in 1999 the mighty Kangas' (ie North melbourne Football Club - the Kangaroos) won the Grand Final, the AFL Premiership.

It was sweet too.

Carn'a Kangas.

They have been called the Kangas for as long as the club has existed, which is 125 years I think.

Thats pretty funny, and so's this:

thought that was an "Urban Myth", but according to snopes
(fact or fiction site) Its mostly true..
http://www.snopes.com/humor/nonsense/kangaroo.htm
Except that what they fired at the chopper is much funnier than SAM's
;-)

"[S]ince we were not at that stage interested in weapons, we had not
set any weapon or projectile types, so what the kangaroos fired at us
was in fact the default object for the simulation, which happened to
be large multicoloured beachballs."

cool! :-D

But kangaroos are ubiquitous in this country, and they are iconic. It wouldn't be that hard to dredge up any number of stories about kangaroos. Funny stories too.

And not so funny ones.

Killer kangaroos ... big ones can kill you, they can lean back on heir tails and disembowel you if you are unlucky. I knew a guy who was a truckie, he saw a motorbike rider hit by a roo on an outback highway. They guy managed to swing his legs up, so he was sitting on the bike as it slid down the road. Instead of being underneath it or on the ground. Unfortunately the friction from the slide wore the fuel tank away, and the rider got up off his bike (probably thinking he was the luckiest guy on earth) the fuel ignited and blew his legs off. He died from blood loss and internal injuries.

This stuff happens alot, it might also be worth checking out whether or not there was a Kangaroo cull going on anywhere at the time. there might have been and if so, IMO it would make a much better disinfo story. Shooting kangaroos with guns on a mass scale would certainly distract from shooting Steve Kangas with a gun...

BTW Steve Kangas was shot in Feb I think, and the Grand Final was in September.

One of the 1976 presidential debates with Ford vs Carter had "the audio go down" leaving the candidates standing mutely on TV for around 20 minutes.

The audio went out just as Carter was going to comment on recent CIA scandals.
That was the year that Operation Mockingbird was exposed.

mr. hillshoist, you have the best ideas - for a while now, i've wanted to start a thread called 'Wild Animals you have observed in the Act of Love' in the lounge........i was afraid it would be too controversial, since i would want to include the monarchs which mate down in Carmel, CA......anyways, here is link to a pic of group sex by a california amphibian (i've seen this in real life, a few times in the rainy season - which it is now in CA)

Coinkydink pt.2 - An hour or two earlier I'd pointed out to same mate two crows going going for it in full flight, like they do, shameless they are.

Now lunarose wants a mating thread! In the Lounge, luv, please, or you'll get us all banned.

It's spring again..
