Or hallucinations, swamp gas, etc.

The UFO/contactee/abductee phenomenon IS a massive psyops...

just not by the "government/military" or "aliens"

Suddenly a blinding light came through the window, and I could only move my head and eyes. It hit me that this is the usual prelude to an alien abduction report, so I had better brace myself for total anal destruction."

Could this be the funniest thing I have read in a couple of months? It sounds like a Steven Wright bit. In fact if you read it with Steven Wright's voice you will piss yourself!

I think one thing that has gone unnoticed with Whitley Strieber's career is the cover of Communion. I remember as a kid browsing in a book store and coming upon Communion for the first time and the cover literally taking my breath away. The book itself, ah I lean to the open-minded but it doesn't seem to even work as good fiction. But I don't want to potentially invite any cosmic anal destruction, so who knows- could of happened.

Anyways here is the cover:

Is this sarcasm?

Definitely the Mona Lisa of grey depictions. I bought the book for my father before I ever had any real interest in the subject or in fact even before my father had any interest. I really bought it for myself, based on the cover. I read it before I gave it to him, in one sitting.

I recently reread it after scrounging it out of their basement. Not nearly as good a read this many years later. In fact, pretty bad as fiction goes.

Interesting thread.

Nope. I think like you if the cover was your stereotypical flying saucer I probably would have passed at the time. Something about the alien psygionomy painted in a somewhat classical way was intriguing/disturbing enough to grab my attention at that age.

I imagine the phenomeon has mutated into Manga now for that age group.

I had the same experience. I was ten years old.

You caught Mac Tonnies eye..

I've emailed Mac asking that Aeolus be credited for his own work. I'd be proud if it were, but it's not "Rigorous Intuition's analysis."
