Okay, say what you will about Tom Jones, but please say it after you watch this video from his TV show, whereupon he masterfully swings into full grand mal seizure.
Tom Jones - Treat her right

Tom Jones - Resurrection Shuffle (live)

Tom Jones & The Cardigans - Burning Down The House

Talk about packin'.

And here's Roy Head performing the original. Perhaps it is this song in and of itself which, due to some odd confluence of the particular chord progressions in translation via a horn section, causes the singer herewith to launch into pop convultions. Because it surprises me that his natty sixties peg-legged suit could withstand the sheer punishment inflicted upon it by the intensity of the pure rock-out the appropriately named Mr. Head is wont to put upon it. Kindy watch to the end to witness his descent itnto full-blown spawning salmon mode. Fundamental - hey, hey, hey!

Roy Head - Treat Her Right

If everyone would just dance like this every day, what a new and different world it would be.

People don't know that Tom Jones is musicianship incarnate? That's just wrong. I mean, he's Welsh.

It's Not Unusual

Kiss (w/ Art of Noise) NOW FEATURING NEW, IMPROVED LINK TO CORRECT SONG!!

Chills & Fever

Though with all due respect, I don't know what Tori Amos's excuse is. If she has one.

I was just being catty. She's not my style, but she is the real thing that she is, no doubt.

I just have a mock personal grudge against her, which proceeds from a real albeit ludicrous action of hers. Elvis definitely has something going on with Fiona. Whether Fiona has something going on with Elvis or whether Fiona has something going on with Fiona, or whether Fiona isn't, for the duration of that performance, making any distinctions of that nature is not so clear to me.

Whatever the case, I'm sure that it was all really about Bebe Buell, ultimately, since every song he's ever written since the first record is, according to her. Including every song on This Year's Model which was recorded before they met. Except for some reason this one. Though I've never understood what she's got against it, exactly.*** It's a perfectly lovely song, and I'd be thrilled if it were about me.

Not that she isn't a true-hearted rockin' babe and stellar individual. Though I do wish she'd stayed brunette, now that I come to consider it.

***ON EDIT: Maybe that little chord progression at the very end that I've always thought was a quotation from somewhere in here, though I can never locate it when I try? I'm pretty sure it's from something. Though not the song by that name on the same record.

Oh, well. As a very wise Kabbalist once sang: Life is a mystery. It's probably just another case of: So confusing to date a rock star.

It's a riff on the end of "You Never Give Me Your Money" - the part where they sing, "1,2,3,4,5,6,7...all good children go to heaven", you know, just before "Polythene Pam". The Beatles riff sounds alittle like a similar riff from "Here Comes the Sun" which sounds kinda like a similar riff from the Cream song,"Badge".

The nursery rhyme words were written on a door found at Spahn Ranch which Bugliosi used to tie the Manson Family to the LaBianca killings.

Now, I told you 'bout our kid, he's not a tomato. Or tomahtoe. Let's call the whole thing off.

1970 - The birth of punk:

Portsmouth Sinfonia: Classical Muddly

Partly recorded live at the legendary 1974 Royal Albert Hall concert. It is worth waiting until they reach the 1812 Overture, complete with cannons.

Play loud.

According to Brian Eno, who later that same year became one of the Sinfonia's clarinetists, despite never having played the instrument before: "The philosophy of the orchestra was that anybody could join; there was no basis of skill required." The only rule was that you shouldn't be able to play the instrument you held in your hands. In that first performance, the raggle-taggle ensemble busked its way through the William Tell Overture under the wayward baton of John Farley, and the audience had tears of laughter streaming down their faces. The self-styled "world's worst orchestra" was in business.
