Oliver Stone's "W"- trailer up now

Maybe shoulda posted in the video thread. But I'd be interested in the reactions here.

I think it looks alright. Certainly not very flattering. Which is what I was worried about, as Stone's seemed to have gone limp for last couple-a years. Looks like it portrays the family in a pretty negative, almost abusive light. Should be interesting.

Doesn't look terribly interesting to me. We know what there is to know about Dubya, but perhaps his loyal Bushites do not and will learn something about their Improbable President.

Here's a working link. I sure hope Oliver Stone de-balling isn't continuing with this one. World Trade Center was horrible pap for the most part. Then again, Alexander (especially the final, longest version) is an underrated fever-dream of a historical movie. We'll see.

The life of Dubya as endearing, condescending comedy? The Bushes as a goofy yet lovable East Coast elite family? Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.

But that was pretty much also Natural Born Killers. I could see a Bush family portrait working in a similar fashion.

They'd just have to make it vicious/biting enough... Like I said, I'm hoping Oliver Stone is back at the top of his game here but I'm still a bit iffy. Maybe it was the clichéd use of A Wonderful World. The visuals look great already at this point, though, thanks to the work of Phedon Papamichael.

I bet the vast amount of American Bushites have no idea what a jack-ass screw-up he was, hell most of them probably think he's from Texas. A pull no punches satire of his life would open a lot of eyes.

Maybe ... but all of the parapolitical researchers I trust and respect most, from both sides of the political spectrum, say that the JFK film was the best condensing of data related to that coup that's ever been put to film. NOT that it serves as a definitive answer but that it encapsulates a LOT of the tangled threads that make up the bulk of the official conspiracy myth and the conspiracy communities myths.

Hiss was the original WMD, used to justify the takeover of foreign policy by the Dulles brothers, aided and abetted by Nixon and other right-wingers who wanted to see Truman removed from office...

Thanks for the link. His mention of how he's always being told 'don't go there' and inclusion of TWA 800 reminds me:

ABC Kills TWA 800 Special

Media Monitor | By Reed Irvine and Cliff Kincaid | November 25, 1998

ABC recently announced that it had canceled a special called “Oliver Stone’s Declassified” that was to include a segment that would show evidence that TWA Flight 800 was downed by missiles. The show was being produced for ABC’s entertainment division by movie director Oliver Stone. It had been reported earlier that ABC News was unhappy about the entertainment division encroaching on their turf with a program that would dispute the accuracy of their reporting on the cause of the TWA 800 crash. ABC News coverage of the controversy had strongly supported the official line that the crash was caused by a spontaneous explosion of the plane’s center wing fuel tank.

ABC News executives were reported to have learned of the Stone project when federal government sources told ABC reporters that people who said they were working for ABC were asking questions about the TWA 800 investigation. We suspect that the federal officials expressed their strong disapproval of ABC doing anything to give publicity to the evidence gathered by Cmdr. Bill Donaldson and others that proves that the official FBI/NTSB investigation had covered up the true cause of the crash.

David Westin, president of ABC News, sent an e-mail to Ian Goddard, one of the critics of the official investigation, in which he said that ABC News had thoroughly considered all the evidence available and had concluded that there was no credible evidence that a missile was involved. He said that they concluded that the accounts of the many eyewitnesses who thought they saw a missile blow up the plane (quote) “were explained by falling debris.”

Mr. Westin is saying that consulting engineer Paul Angelides, who said he first saw the missile high in the sky over his head, watched it travel seven miles out to sea and explode 10 degrees above the horizon, had actually only seen the burning debris from a plane seven miles away falling into the ocean.

Westin’s statement is nothing but a repetition of the government’s crude effort to discredit the testimony of over a hundred eyewitnesses like Paul Angelides who saw what they first thought was a flare or fireworks streaking up from the surface and culminating in a tremendous bright white explosion far out on the horizon. The government even had the CIA prepare an animation that showed the airliner climbing like a rocket after its nose was blown off by a fuel tank explosion, trailing burning fuel. They said that was why some witnesses thought they saw rocket. Others, they said, had mistaken the falling debris for a rocket.

The eyewitnesses are insulted by this crazy caricature of what they saw. The two journalists working for Oliver Stone, Kristina Borjesson and Kelly O’Meara, have done what ABC News failed to do. They interviewed many of the eyewitnesses. They videotaped the detailed briefings at which Donaldson and other aviation professionals presented forensic evidence showing that a missile was involved. Their program would have embarrassed ABC News by telling the facts ABC had ignored. Exposing the cover-up would have hurt President Clinton, whose friend, Michael Eisner, runs Disney, the company that owns ABC.

Examples of how the media assassinated him and his project:

Oliver Stone's latest conspiracy theory rankles ABC News, feds

Conspiracy or coincidence? You make the call.

Filmmaker Oliver Stone's (``JFK'') proposed ABC special promoting the theory that a Navy missile brought down TWA Flight 800 has created so much controversy within the network's news division that odds are ``slim'' the broadcast will air, according to ABC insiders.

The Stone project, tentatively titled ``Oliver Stone Declassified,'' was pitched to ABC Entertainment executives as an examination of several news events, ABC sources say. It was only recently that ABC News types found out that TWA Flight 800 was to be included.

``I'm upset about it,'' says ``20/20'' co-anchor Sam Donaldson. ``This is typical Stone...."

Knight Ridder

Stone's Take

The theory that TWA Flight 800 was brought down by a missile may be widely discredited, but it won't die. The latest conspiracy crank to delve into the mysterious crash is none other than film director Oliver Stone. His production company is preparing a one-hour, prime-time "reality" special called "Oliver Stone's Declassified" for ABC's entertainment division....

I almost get the feeling that Comedy Central spoofing of Bush, despite the right wing being angry about, is actually PRO Bush. Poking fun at presidents is always par for course. I consider Colbert to be a PTB court jester. But...exposing the deep state crimes of administrations? I'd love to see a Robert Smiegel SNL cartoon exposing the crimes of Reagan, Poppy, Slick Willy and Dubya.

Man, how did Oliver Stone from Salvador, 4th of July, JFK and this proposed TWA 800 special....to "WTC"? Oliver Stone said in 2006 that the ONLY conspiracy was the conspiracy to shape intel to invade Iraq. Puhlease.

I *agree* that JFK is a masterpiece...I mean it's the ultimate parallel to 9/11.

So why didn't JFK make a 9/11 film ABOUT the hijackers, the FBI obstruction and the stuff I brought up in the other thread? Shoot if I was given the greenlight I'd deliver the most jarring 9/11 films, with a Silence of the Lambs/Zodiac/JFK like mystery.

It seems like most rabble rousers, 9/11 muted people who generally would have been all about sticking it to the official story and paradigm.

TWA 800 was always one of those mysteries that didn't make sense:
If it was an accident from a Navy training, why cover it up? In 2001 the Ukrainian military owned up to accidentally shooting down an Israeli jet from war game exercises.

If it was "Muslim terrorists" with a SAM, why wouldnt Clinton use that as an excuse to bomb some country?

I always felt something fishy happened with that event, though I'm not sure what.
