FOX News Hosts' Books Read By Knoxville Church Shooter

http://www.newshounds.us/2008/07/28/fox ... r.php#more

On Sunday, Jim Adkisson entered the Knoxville Unitarian Universalist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee and opened fire killing two people and injuring seven more who were watching a children's production of Annie. A report from the Knoxville News Sentinel states that when police entered Jim Adkisson's home they found books by Michael Savage, Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly.

"Inside the house, officers found "Liberalism is a Mental Health Disorder" by radio talk show host Michael Savage, "Let Freedom Ring" by talk show host Sean Hannity, and "The O'Reilly Factor," by television talk show host Bill O'Reilly."
h/t to CM

The article goes on to explain Adkisson's motivation for the attack which he revealed to Steve Sills, a Knoxville Police Officer.

"Adkisson targeted the church, Still wrote in the document obtained by WBIR-TV, Channel 10, "because of its liberal teachings and his belief that all liberals should be killed because they were ruining the country, and that he felt that the Democrats had tied his country's hands in the war on terror and they had ruined every institution in America with the aid of media outlets."

This is a low blow. It's like blaming KMFDM for Columbine.

OT, I was trying really hard not to look at Ann Coulter's face when I accidentally glanced at her hand there in the lower left hand corner of that image and... received a nice review course in the articulation of the metacarpophalangeals. So thanks for that! It would actually have surprised me if this hate criminal had not been listening to Sean Hannity, et al. If there was any justice left in America, etc. etc.

I wonder what reading list they will use when they decide to use a liberal?

I don't see how. The shooter said he was motivated to kill because he was jobless and because he hated liberalism and the "liberal movement".

When you're dealing in hate like Michael Savage, you're going to spawn it. Unavoidable.

How is that a low blow? This guy is the manifestation of the RW'ers wet dream. What's surprising is that this kind of thing doesn't happen every damn day in this country, what with $100 million Sean Hannity and $400 million Rush Limpballs skillfully spreading hatred into American's brains 24/7 all across the country.

These people are paid HUGE bucks to spread HATRED. They are good at it. They push people's buttons, they rile them up, and suddenly everybody acts surprised when one of their fans/listeners goes ahead and does what they are URGING them all to do? To go to war with "liberals". To "take action". To do their patriotic duty and show those godless, evil liberals exactly what they should do to them.

Low blow my fucking ASS.

These people are paid huge dollars to create a culture of hatred, as part of the "divide and conquer" strategy of the right-wing. Hate hate hate. What does hate beget? Why, more hatred of course.

They hate us, so we hate them back. Keep throwing the gas on the fire. As long as people like this guy hate people like me, instead of the rich fat-cats who are ACTUALLY screwing him over, the rich fat-cats can continue to milk an entire society of people like him (and me) to line their own pockets.

It's disgusting, and it's exactly the goal of the hate-mongers. Except what they'd REALLY like to do is have their terrorists (and this guy IS a terrorist by any definition of the word) take out some people who are actually important, like their "activist judges" they always rant about. Just put some "rat poison" in his "creme broulee" says Ann.

Fuck these assholes. NOBODY should be paid to spread hatred.

It's just fucking sick.

The guy was nuts. Anyone who listens to a bunch of right wing radio/TV hosts and kills someone is out of there mind. He would have killed someone at some point even if he didn't watch FOX News because- once again- he was obviously a bit of a nut to begin with.

I'm no fan of Mike Savage or FOX News, but don't you think this is the same kind of scapegoating as:

- Blaming Judas Priest for those two kids that committed suicide in the early 90s(?).

- Blaming the Wizard of Oz and Catcher in the Rye for Mark David Champman's murder of John Lennon.

- Blaming bands like KMFDM and Rammstein for the Columbine shootings.

No, because it's completely different.

A guy like this doesn't buy an album and play it. He doesn't buy a book and read it.

He hears this shit 24 hours a day because he has it on his radio dial, and he turns on his TV and sees it 24/7 on his TV. It's not a few media things he chooses to listen to now and then, it's his world. It's his culture. It's his reality.

And it's a reality deliberately created by hate-mongers to foster hate in people exactly like him.

But you CANNOT compare the culture of hatred that is created by the right-wing noise machine and stuff that is intended to be actual entertainment by a BAND.

The band is just hoping people buy its albums. A guy like Hannity is ALREADY PAID $100 million to spread the hate, to lie, and to spread propaganda. Ulterior motives.

The difference between this guy and all the others who listen to and approve of this stuff is that he actually has the courage of his convictions. He's willing to *do* what his idols say he should do. Predictably, the Couters, etc. will say this isn't what they meant, but we know better. Maybe they don't want it to happen just now...

Coulter on Sen. Chafee: "They Shot the Wrong Lincoln"

Right-wing pundit Ann Coulter titled her August 30 syndicated column on the Rhode Island Senate race: "They Shot the Wrong Lincoln." The headline is a reference to Sen. Lincoln Chafee (R-RI), whom she excoriated throughout the piece -- calling him a "half-wit" and a "silver-spooned moron[] -- while expressing her support for his challenger in the September 12 Republican primary, Stephen Laffey.

This is not the first time Coulter has alluded to killing those she disagrees with:

Commenting on radio host Melanie Morgan's assertion that if New York Times executive editor Bill Keller were convicted of treason she "would have no problem with him being sent to the gas chamber," Coulter said, "I prefer a firing squad, but I'm open to a debate on the method of execution." She later suggested that Times staff members should be "executed."
Coulter said of the media: "Would that it were so! ... That the American military were targeting journalists."
Coulter suggested that Rep. John P. Murtha (D-PA) is "the reason soldiers invented fragging," -- military slang meaning the intentional killing of a member of one's own unit.
Coulter argued that the national debate during the Monica Lewinsky controversy should not have focused on whether former President Bill Clinton "did it," but rather "whether to impeach or assassinate" him.
Coulter said of Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens: "We need somebody to put rat poison in Justice Stevens's créme brulée.''

"The time has arrived for a godly fumigation."
- Pat Robertson

"We should blame them (gay people) for every social failure in America."
- Gordon Wysong, at American Vision

"Unless we get medically lucky, in three or four years, one of the options discussed will be the extermination of homosexuals."
- Paul Cameron

Vester: You say you'd rather not talk to liberals at all?
Coulter: I think a baseball bat is the most effective way these days.
(FOX News Channel, DaySide with Linda Vester, 10/6)

Limbaugh, "I tell people don't kill all the liberals..."
... Leave enough so we can have two on every campus, living fossils, so we will never forget what these people stood for." - Rush Limbaugh

“Excuse me folks, I’m going to say this. We ought to find the people who are doing this, take them out and shoot them. Really. You take them out - they are traitors to this country - and shoot them. You have a problem with that? Deal with it. You shoot them. You call them traitors - that’s what they are - and you shoot them dead. I’ll pay for the bullets. How about you take Mark Dice out and put him in the middle of a firing range. Tie him to a post, don’t blindfold him, let it rip and have some fun with Mark Dice.” -Michael Reagan

Agreed. It's more like the "Hutu power" Radio-Télévision Libre des Mille Collines that incited the Rwandan genocide.

RTLM is the most widely reported symbol of "hate radio" throughout the world. Its broadcasts, disseminating hate propaganda and inciting to murder Tutsis and opponents to the regime, began on 8 July 1993, and greatly contributed to the 1994 genocide of hundreds of thousands.

RTLM, aided by the staff and facilities of Radio Rwanda, the government-owned station, called on the Hutu majority to destroy the Tutsi minority. The programmes were relayed to all parts of the country via a network of transmitters owned and operated by Radio Rwanda. After Rwandan Patriotic Front troops drove the government forces out of Kigali in July 1994, RTLM used mobile FM transmitters to broadcast disinformation from inside the French-controlled zone on the border between Rwanda and Zaire, causing millions of Hutus to flee toward refugee camps where they could be regrouped and recruited as future fighters.

It is widely believed that RTLM was set up to circumvent the ban imposed on "harmful radio propaganda" to which the Rwandan government had formally committed itself to in the March 1993 Dar-Es-Salaam joint communiqué.

Initially, RTLM was not taken seriously by western governments and diplomats. Although RTLM clearly qualified as Map of Rwandaharmful and attacked even members of the diplomatic corps in Kigali, there was no decision to take forceful measures to silence it. The western donors limited themselves to making representations to President Habyarimana who responded by promising to look into it, but not taking any action. Both the French and the American ambassadors opposed any action against RTLM. The US Ambassador at the time claimed that it was the best radio for information and that its euphemisms were subject to many interpretations.

As the then Canadian ambassador, Lucie Edwards, later said: "The question of Radio Mille Collines propaganda is a difficult one. There were so many genuinely silly things being said on the station, so many obvious lies, that it was hard to take it seriously... Nevertheless, everyone listened to it - I was told by Tutsis (sic) - in a spirit of morbid fascination and because it had the best music selection."

I'm going to concede here and say that I was wrong. What I originally wrote was written as a quick, unthought out response, and thinking it over there is a difference between this and actual cases of innocents being scapegoated.

This case alone is what changed my mind when I thought it over. I'm not a fan of Dice, but... damn... that was a sick incident.

Shouldn't O'Reilly, Hannity, and Savage thereby be placed on the Department of Homeland Security's terrorism watch list? And, given that, should the advertisers that lend their financial support have their accounts frozen?

Just wondering.
