Upcoming 2008 Movies of note

Postby judasdisney » Mon Nov 05, 2007 3:43 am

The Anti-Fascist - documentary on Dave Emory

Fahrenheit 9/11½ - Michael Moore's sequel, for real, just in time to sway the election.

Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay - now that's comedy

The Hidden Fortress - Yes, a remake of Kurosawa (a.k.a., a remake of Star Wars)

Pattern Recognition - Peter Weir & William Gibson.

The Road to Rendition - documentary about secret CIA prisons, not about the Tom Hanks movie

Programming The Nation - documentary about subliminals

Der Baader-Meinhof Komplex - looks like propaganda: described on IMDB as "A look at Germany's terrorist group, The Red Army Faction (RAF), which organized bombings, robberies, kidnappings and assassinations in the late 1960s and '70s. Based on Stefan Aust's best-selling nonfiction book." In the real world: a.k.a., Operation Gladio (NATO).

The Power of Their Song: The Untold Story of Latin America's New Song Movement - at least somebody's having a musical renaissance

Still waiting for "Kill The Messenger"

Follows the cross-country adventures of the pot-smoking duo as they try to outrun authorities who suspect them of being terrorists when they try to sneak a bong on board their flight to Amsterdam.

Talk about coals to Newcastle! :)

"This time they're running from the joint." is a truely terrible/genius tagline.

Kill The Messenger has been out awhile, just go to torrentz.com or google "kill the messenger torrent". Only an hour, but very powerful. Should be a companion piece to Press For Truth.

Hate to tell you, Pattern Recognition isnt happening. However, Neuromancer seems on track for a 2009 release finally.
Ive seen New Rose Hotel, Johnny Mnemonic, No Maps For These Territories, etc and am waiting for the first ever *good* Gibson based film

I'm going to guess that if Fahrenheit 9/11 2.0 comes out, it's just going to be more incompetence bullshit not even approaching the gravity of 9/11 Press For Truth. The mainstream left has let us all done

Here's a documentary youll wanna see:

Errol Morris' SOP: Standard Operating Procedure, which exposes
how Abu Gharib was a government operation psyop and not random pranks

Here's my list for the films I cant wait for, that are confirmed to come out in 2008 and 2009

2008:

Batman Dark Knight
Indiana Jones 4
Iron Man(tho it looks like anti Arab pro war propaganda)
Xfiles 2(july 2008!)
Hellboy 2
Star Trek 11
Appleseed 2: Ex Machina
Be Kind Rewind
Where The Wild Things Are
Midnight Meat Train(the most disturbing, frightening trailer Ive seen)
Evangelion Rebuild(neon genesis)
Vantage Point(president assassination film)
Battle In Seattle
SOP

2009:

Avatar
Transformers 2
Terminator Salvation
Gatchaman
Neuromancer
Superman Returns 2
Dark Crystal 2
Wolverine
Monsters Vs. Aliens
Astroboy
Game
Tekken
Onimusha

Best of 2008: Film

2. Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone
Image
This is a hard film to categorize. Is it something new? Is it a remake? Is it a sequel? I think to some degree, it’s all three. It’s a more focused, emotionally clear take on the series’ first six episodes, and it was one of the most exhilarating, emotional experiences I had with a film in 2008. It doesn’t reach the heights of End of Evangelion, but it does a great job of clearing up some of the strange logic issues the series had, and making the emotional arcs a lot clearer early on. I don’t think it replaces the series, but it’s a great supplement, and if I had to start someone with the show, I might just show them this movie first. The animation was beautiful, and the final moments of the film are as haunting a closing as anything on this list. I can’t wait to see where they go with Rebuild 2.0.

But no Watchmen, alas. Not if Fox has its way.

I always loved the line from the Bard's Titus Andronicus, when his maimed and ravished daughter is shown to him by his brother, after two of his sons have been falsely arrested for the murder of one of Cesar's sons:

"What foole hath added water to the sea?
Or brought a torch to bright burning Troy?"

Start at the five minute mark for some KILLER acting by Hopkins.
