Look at what you can buy for $10,000 (wish I could post the pic direct):

More bad news for the Detroit area

Postby slow_dazzle » Thu Mar 12, 2009 1:21 pm

This article was posted by Anarchyale on LATOC earlier today.

PONTIAC -- Employees packed a Pontiac Public Schools board meeting Monday and waited long enough to hear what they had feared -- that every district employee will be laid off, all 622 -- and then spoke with their feet.
On behalf of the future, I ask you of the past to leave us alone. You are not welcome among us. You have no sovereignty where we gather.

Doesn't surprise me, slow-dazzle. My heart aches for the whole state. The 1980 recession hit them really hard. My sister-in-law's kids had school on split-day schedules for years--half the kids went to school in the mornings, half in the afternoons. I don't think they ever fully recovered from that.

Look at this income property that brings in $550 a month selling for $300. Of course, you have to take into account Detroit's outrageous property taxes.

I spent many Saturday nights in Detroit in the 70's...the live music was incredible. It was a short 45 min. drive up I-75 for me and my girlfriends. These pictures below break my heart.

Two French photographers immortalize the remains of the motor city on film:

It is an open secret that the downtown of Detroit, Michigan is as empty as the residential districts that surround it.

I'll say it is. It's huge, and it seems like you just drive and drive and drive to get anywhere. Considering how big it is, I was kind of surprised to see how those developers back in Detroit's heyday managed to pack so many houses in such tight spaces. Heh, maybe the means of transportation back then--twenties and thirties-- to get to work at Ford was trolley or something, so it was important to keep people packed in as close to work as possible.

Yikes, $5800! Does being near the river make it a bad neighborhood?
