Exclusive The Large Hadron Collider - most puissant particle-punisher ever assembled by the human race - has suffered another major power failure, knocking not only the atomsmasher itself but even its associated websites offline. The machine remains unserviceable at present. However its crucial cryogenics seem to have been unaffected, and no catastrophic damage is thought to have occurred.

News of the outage emerged when keen amateur LHC-watchers (at independent site the LHC Portal) noticed that most of CERN's web presence related to the Collider had disappeared. Presently much of it returned, and with it came an official account of events released by control-room staff.

It appears that a failure occurred at 01:23 Swiss time this morning in an 18,000-volt power line at the Meyrin site above the mighty collider's subterranean circuit. This caused a power cut across the site, shutting down the main computer centre among other things and causing an abrupt cessation of operations.

However according to CERN controllers and the publicly-viewable web readouts (now back online) the LHC's magnets stayed chilled down to their operating temperature, just 1.9 degrees above absolute zero - colder than deep space. This is critical, as re-chilling the magnets had they warmed beyond a certain point would have been a lengthy and involved process.

"Diesels cut in OK" noted the controllers, adding that the Meyrin site is now drawing limited grid power from an alternative connection via the Prevessin site. The boffins don't anticipate resuming operations until at least 18:30 local time today. They later supplied the pic above of the faulty high-voltage component believed to have caused the problem.

The exact cause of the fault remains to be established, though in a machine so complex a lot of routine teething troubles are to be expected. However, with interest in the LHC so intense, colourful speculation is to be anticipated.

"Maybe it was a birdy bread-bomber from the future," jokes Chris Stephens of the LHC Portal - referring to the well-known wingnut theory that that the mere possibility of the LHC unmasking certain phenomena engenders forces which act backwards through time to sabotage it before this can happen.

We ourselves find it hard not to suspect the involvement of some pan-dimensional police force, seeking to prevent humanity acquiring parallel-universe portal capability before we're ready to use it responsibly. ®

An interesting report circulating in the Kremlin is claiming that the massive power blackout that hit South America this past week was due to a 'Time Wave' that emanated from the mysterious Bolivian Andes region called Tiahuanaco, where the mysterious 10 ton 'Gateway of the Sun' monolith -carved from a single block of Andesite granite- [above, left] is located, and was 'triggered' by an 'anomalous event' at the World's largest and highest-energy particle accelerator, Large Hadron Collider (LHC) [above, right], in Switzerland run by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and 'rippled through' the thousands of ancient pyramid complexes located throughout Brazil and other countries of South America.

La aerolínea informó de que estaban en posesión de toda la documentación necesaria para sobrevolar Brasil, sin embargo debido a fallos de coordinación y por razones de seguridad fue necesario volver a España.
Fuentes en España y Brasil sugieren que el incidente fue resultado de problemas burocráticos. Air Comet ha acumulado una sustancial deuda con el gobierno brasileño por el impago de tasas aéreas y ha fallado en varias ocasiones en su compromiso de pago de la deuda.

After this mysterious event, CERN scientists shut down the LHC blaming their failed experiment on a bird dropping a piece of bread onto outdoor machinery, after which their Director for Research and Scientific Computing, Sergio Bertolucci, warned that the titanic LHC machine may possibly create or discover previously unimagined scientific phenomena, or 'unknown unknowns' such as an 'extra dimension'.
But, even after shutting down the LHC the 'dimensional distortions' created in South America by this 'Time Wave' continued to be felt, and led to the 'Gateway of the Sun' monolith sending out, what Russian scientists have likened to, a 'digital communication' towards the thousands of Pyramids in Brazil and other ancient sites throughout the Andes Region of South America and leading to the massive power outage that plunged tens-of-millions into darkness.

The aircraft, an Airbus A330-322, performed a Fuel Stop at Tenerife before continuing the flight to VVI. That airport (Santa Cruz de la Sierra) is out of the range in terms of full payload carriage. Moreover, the passenger weight for this specific flight is massive, that is why the only way to reach VVI is to refuel at an airport not so far from the intended route. The best option for that flight is a fuel stop in Tenerife (TFN Los rodeos or TFS Reina Sofia airport) because it is the last spanish airport (Iberworld is an spanish airline) and then a Tenerife-VVI is affordable. The new is mixing the AOG of another aircraft (in this case an A330-343) that unfortunately had to await for spares at the airport. This is the reality.
